   As a planet we
haven't been keeping ocean and lake levels, climate, magnetic field
changes and solar activity records long enough on a planetary scale to know
what is "normal". If you have have read Velikovsky's theories the earth has been
through many changes before and will go through more in the future. Earth will
be very active for a while. If you study geology, in the past,  what are
mountains today have been under water before. The Andes have risen to where
they are within the time since humans have been here. Perfectly healthy
creatures have been  wiped out suddenly for reasons we can only speculate.

    We are
just going into an active period and will have to learn to adjust to
it.

BILLINGS, Mont. -- Yellowstone National Park happens to be on top of
one of the largest "super volcanoes" in the world. Geologists claim the
Yellowstone Park area has been on a regular eruption cycle of 600,000 years.
The last eruption was 640,000 years ago making the next one long overdue.
This next eruption could be 2,500 times the size of the 1980 Mount St.
Helens eruption. Volcanologists have been tracking the movement of magma
under the park and have calculated that, in parts of Yellowstone, the ground
has risen over seventy centimeters this century. In July, 2003,
Yellowstone Park rangers closed the entire Norris Geyser Basin because of
deformation of the land and excessive high ground temperatures. There is an
area that is 28 miles long by 7 miles wide that has bulged upward over five
inches since 1996, and this year the ground temperature on that bulge has
reached over 200 degrees (measured one inch below ground level).
There was no choice but to close off the entire area. Everything in
this area is dying: The trees, flowers, grass and shrubs. A dead zone is
developing and spreading outward. The animals are literally migrating out of
the park. Then during the last part of July one of the Park geologists
discovered a huge bulge at the bottom of Yellowstone Lake. The bulge has
already risen over 100 feet from the bottom of the lake and the water
temperature at the surface of the bulge has reached 88 degrees and is still
rising. Keep in mind that Yellowstone Lake is a high mountain lake with
very cold water temperatures. The Lake is now closed to the public. It is
filled with dead fish floating everywhere. The same is true of the
Yellowstone river and most of the other streams in the Park. Dead and
dying fish are filling the water everywhere. Many of the picnic areas in
the Park have been closed and people visiting the Park usually sta

The distressing incident in which Dru Sjodin, the North Dakota coed,
was abducted holds elements that all women should be warned about.
When a woman leaves a shopping mall, she is already in a difficult
situation.  Often it is dark, and she is passing innumerable cars and
vans.  There are people on all sides if there is a heavy shopping
situation.  Now add to this the fact that a woman leaving a mall has a
purse and/or a package  in one hand and lately is holding a phone to her
ear with the other.  She is not even concentrating on getting to her
car.  She is talking to someone and her mind is basically on the
conversation she is having.  She could not be more vulnerable if she were
wearing handcuffs.  This is a rather new situation, and I'm no rocket
scientist.  If I can figure out what an easy target women are in this
situation, so can a dozen or so freaky creeps who seem to always be looking
for victims.  I'm sure the scum who prey on women will all be trying the
new method.  Women all over the United States should be warned that when
they are through shopping anywhere and returning to their cars, they should
put the phone away before they exit the building and keep their attention on
their surroundings.   Malls are not the only places where this
should be observed.  There is no call  so urgent that it cannot wait
until they are in the car with the doors locked.

[CTRL] Safety at concerts and nightspots

2003-02-21 Thread magnetic_field
-Caveat Lector-

  So many of us just
presume that nightspots, theatres, and concerts are setup for our safety. How
many of us have ever called ahead of going somewhere to check the number of fire
exits or safety conditions of the building. Many of us don't like crowded places
or being in a strange building or place with lots of people. The two incidents
in the last four days in Chicago and West Warrick R.I. remind us to think before
we rush off to party especially where alcohol or drug consumption is possible.
Panic is likely in any situation but is made worse by being intoxicated.

  At the cost of any
entertainment these days, with some concert tickets costing over $400.00 a
seat, we should plan ahead before rushing off somewhere.

Re: [CTRL] Excluded Jewish prophets?

2002-02-10 Thread magnetic_field

-Caveat Lector-

I think that one of his most misunderstood quotes was that "religion
is the opiate of the masses". In the context of the time in which he lived
this was very true. Since in most societies then there was no "safety net".
If you were too ill to work, and had no family to help you out, you just
fell thru the cracks. I many places there were still "debter's prisons or
work houses. It was too easy then, to say to a poor starving worker, that it
was God's will that things be that way. That they should accept it and hope
for a reward in heaven. People bore with the most deploreable conditions
because they felt God had deemed it so.
In our time we have so little concept of such a struggle. The
closest we can to this was the great depression in the 1930's. There is a
book "Down and Out in the Great Depression" of letters from common people in
their own language to the President and others describing their situation.
Many families lost their homes for less than $40.00 in back taxes.
Another book is fiction but gives you a sense of what true poverty
is "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair (who by the way happened to be a
socialist).
This comment may be off topic but I think it's related. Like they
say "nothing happens in a vaccuum".

Re: [CTRL] Walking catfish caught crossing road

-Caveat Lector-

I live in Gary Indiana and we have what around here are called "mud
puppies" and are a variety of walking cat fish. I caught one when I was
about 15 years old in some water near one of the steel mills and it shocked
the heck out of me at the time.

This is what really irks me about people who speculate about Hell
and who might be there. The bible says that there is only one unforgivable
sin (blaspheming the Holy Spirit.I understand that this means
denying the power of God). If someone sincerely repents he or she can most
assuredly go to Heaven.
Hell is a place that you go to by Choice. Tim was not a case of a
death bed conversion either. He had wrote before on this topic so this was
on his mind for some time. No matter what Tim did people were going to
misinterpret his motives depending on their own point of view.
Take the execution for instance, When Tim strained to raise his
head and look at the witnesses some witnesses saw acceptance of his
fate. the bombing surrivor's family members saw smugness or an
attittude.

[CTRL] mental illness and mind control

2001-05-26 Thread magnetic_field

    Who
decides what is normal and what is mental illness. Much of what passes for normal today was abnormal 40 years ago. I love to
read old sociology and psychology textbooks. They remind me how much things have
changed.

Has anyone read the book "Sugar Blues" by Duffy It has some very interesting
thoughts on lots of subjects. Another good book is "The manufacture of madness"
(I think that's the correct title).

[CTRL] whom the gods will destroy they first make mad

2001-05-19 Thread magnetic_field

William,
    This
whole thread reminds me of that old one
"whom the gods will destroy they first make
mad".
    Actually
define mental illness. Any definition of it has changed throught history and
through many cultures.
    Have you
ever read the book the "Sugar Blues" by Duffy.
What is normal. What
passes for normal today was considered grounds to be locked up in the looney bin
even
