Subject: [LIFE-GAZETTE] Christian Design of Healthy Villages and Cities

Dear Christian Medical Association:
My Gospel of St. Luke begins with the
recognition of the author/biographer as "Luke, The Beloved
Physician". Further to Mr. Jennings journalism on "The Greatest Story Ever
Told" I am reminded that the report of Luke was a historical report and
that this is a historically based faith. When Life-Gazette was in tabloid
format in the late 80's and early 90's, one of its columnists was a
retired Christian physician who impressed me greatly with his statements
on the CREDIBILITY of this faith. Dr. Hugh Macphail (MD, 1948,
U. Manitoba) was even a creationist. He said he thought there was literal
evidence for creation, ie for some-thing coming out of no-nothing in the
outer regions of space. In particular he said that he thought hydrogen
could be created in space. I have to admit that I was incredulous until I
read the book by scientist-astronaut Brian O'Leary titled "Miracle In The
Void". Not only does O'Leary say that mass-energy can be created in the
void but that he thinks the "zero point field" as he calls space, is
conscious in and of itself. Once again I was incredulous until I read the
web site of another scientist-astronaut, Edgar D. Mitchell, on quantum
holograms as "nature's mind". If the "observer effect" as it is called in
quantum physics manifests itself everywhere we have a scientific statement
giving credence to omniscience, another central tenet in the teachings of
Christ. Dr. Macphail pointed out that this faith we have is a "credible
faith, not a credulous faith". It is not based on the tooth fairy (the
latter kind of faith) but upon HISTORICAL EVIDENCE. IT STANDS OR FALLS ON
HISTORICAL REPORTS LIKE THAT OF LUKE. So it is not a matter of "secular
history" vs. "religious history". It is a matter of history which is valid
vs. history which is invalid.
I have never come across a single piece of evidence which would prove
beyond reasonable doubt that any Biblical account of history or science or
philosophy is invalid. On the other hand, many related pieces of evidence
support the Biblical account of history which is, I remind you, the
established history of Christendom (while histories to the contrary are
revisionist). With only summary stories available for events millennia in
the past it is easy to question the validity of the historical events
reported. Mr. Jennings questions Joseph taking Mary to Bethlehem because
it was not "standard practice" re Roman taxation. That question can be
raised but it does not refute anything. Nor does the incredulity of many
concerning the miracle of the resurrection. On that point, discussed in a
Jennings-King interview, I should add that THE FAITH IS UTTERLY
INVALIDATED IF THE RESURRECTION IS A HOAX. In scientific terms, the
ancient (Old Testament) teaching of the resurrection of the body had
been empirically demonstrated by Jesus Christ. Doesn't medical science
today support the conclusion that a human body with no vital signs can be
revived under certain conditions?
The "medical approach" to our faith could help us greatly today. I am
on a list called "Healthy Cities". I think the last posting was over a
year ago. What would a healthy city (including its villages, surrounding
farms and individual estates etc.) be like? The carnage on the streets of
our cities today is hideous. There are designs for new villages and cities
which would almost totally eliminate this. Pollution ruins health and
takes lives. According to Dean of Architecture, William McDonough, any new
community planned today, not meeting the criterion of "little or no
pollution" is a manifestation of faulty planning <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.
These examples and others obviously have to do with the Commandment "Thou
shalt not kill". One could go on with the "medical approach" until a
complete "healthy city" is described.
St. Luke quotes Jesus in his historical biography: "And why call ye
me Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?" (Luke 6:46). What would
Jesus say about the planning of a model village built anew (like the False
Creek Village in Vancouver under the auspices of the City of Vancouver
Administration) or a model city built anew (like the Bamberton City on
Vancouver Island under the auspices of the Provincial Government)? Would
such communities be any better than the norm in North America today if
they were designed under the leadership of Christian physicians? Would
they manifest BETTER HEALTH at all levels from physical to economic to
spritual?
The faith which spread all over the world from that small country on
the southeast shore of the Mediterranean Sea was manifested in complete
nations which called themselves "officially" Christian. Faith without
works is indeed dead and those works became the practices, laws, customs
etc. of scores of countries. In Canada's case our Constitution is
explicitly "founded upon principles that recognize the supremacy of
God". Who is going to spell out the nature of this "God" and the
"principles" of this God? Mr. Jennings talks of his interviewing
"witnesses" for Christ. But that is an unusual use of the word "witness".
You could give him a chance to interview witnesses by the usual definition
of that word by telling us in Canada what a Christian village/city and
surroundings would be like in a nation founded upon principles that
recognize the supremacy of God, as YOU understand God. There would then be
witnesses to the actualization of a modern Christian Culture. What kind of
society/culture/nation meets the standards of God as you understand God?
Would it be any healthier than any other? Any better? If not, we can just
toss coins or throw dice to decide how to interpret "God" in the Canadian
Constitution.
So far Canadians might as well throw dice. Every law/statute in this
country carries with it definitions of important words as far as I
know. The Constitution, the SUPREME LAW OF CANADA does not define
"God". And no legal expert, no religious expert in Canada will answer "The
Question Nobody Will Answer". Will you?

Sincerely-FWP

What would a complete society be like if it were to "do all for the glory of God"? (I
Corinthians 10:31). What would Canada be like if it were a "Godly Society" functioning
in this manner?
