Dossier # 2: Bernard W. Aronson, Managing Partner, ACON Investments

The Narco News has launched its “Who Runs América?” Investigation on the
fine upstanding and moral people who brought us Plan Colombia, the $1.3
million dollar US military intervention purportedly to fight against drug
trafficking.

The “Who Runs América?” Investigation seeks information about Washington
power-broker Bernard W. Aronson, Managing Partner, ACON Investments.

Brief bio supplied by Mr. Aronson to various sources:

Bernard Aronson is Managing Partner of ACON Investments, a diversified
investment company, and Chairman of Newbridge Andean Partners, a private
equity fund managed by ACON that invests in Latin America. He serves on the
Board of Directors for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines*, Liz Claiborne, and the
National Democratic Institute for International Affairs. Aronson is also a
member of the Advisory Board for Zonafinanciera.com; and he is a member of
the Council on Foreign Affairs and the Inter-American Dialogue.

Prior to co-founding ACON, Aronson served as International Advisor to
Goldman Sachs. Before Goldman Sachs, he was the Assistant Secretary of State
for Inter-American Affairs where he was awarded the Distinguished Service
Award. During the Carter Administration, he served in the White House as
Deputy Assistant to the President. He was President of The Policy Project, a
consulting firm. He was also Assistant to the President of the United
Mineworkers of America International Union. Aronson graduated with honors
from the University of Chicago.

QUOTE FROM MR. ARONSON:

“…We as a nation waited too long to face this drug menace and so did
countries like Colombia. And it's going to take a generation to combat it.
We have to deal with consumption here at home, a culture that glamorized
drug addiction and drug use and drug peddling in the 1960's. And we need to
provide material, intelligence, military, and other support to countries
that are battling to defend their democratic institutions against very well
organized and very well financed drug cartels.” (Tuesday, September 21,
1999, Testimony before the Senate Caucus on International Narcotics Control
-- Colombia: Counterinsurgency
vs. Counternarcotics)
