Priest sex abuse memories queried "Paul Shanley has pleaded not guilty to the charges - A judge is considering whether to allow so-called repressed memory to be used as evidence against a former Catholic priest accused of child rape in Boston. Paul Shanley is alleged to have raped and molested several boys from 1979 to 1989. He has denied the charges. At a pre-trial hearing, an alleged victim said his memories of abuse only surfaced years after it took place. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston has been accused of covering up a huge sex abuse scandal. Nearly 200 priests have been accused, a former cardinal has resigned, and the archdiocese has been forced to sell off a fifth of its parishes." "It has paid out millions of dollars in civil lawsuits including a record $1.4m to an alleged victim of Paul Shanley....The 71-year-old former "street priest" has pleaded not guilty to 10 counts of child rape and six of indecent assault and battery. A large group of his alleged victims has already sued the Boston archdiocese, saying that church officials knew about the abuse claims but did nothing. FDA approves use of implantable chip in patients to pass medical information to doctors Diedtra Henderson, 10/14/04 Washington (AP) "The Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday approved an implantable computer chip that can pass a patient's medical details to doctors, speeding care. VeriChips, radio frequency microchips the size of a grain of rice, have already been used to identify wayward pets and livestock. And nearly 200 people working in Mexico's attorney general's office have been implanted with chips to access secure areas containing sensitive documents.
