Well, caves are at 55 degrees Fahrenheit and I was told that the supplies
were being stored in some limestone caves in West Virginia. Thanks for the
information Cloudsfter. If "they" are stocking, I'm sure they are planning
on supporting a rather large population of military types to keep them safe.
Who ever is on the "save" list I'm sure I didn't make the cut.

I don't know about West Virginia but I have friends in the
Kansas City area who have emailed me that the homeless guys
that congregate in some areas to get day labor jobs have in
the recent past been picked up and worked for a week at a time
unloading trucks full of MRE's inside wire fenced government
installations in the KC area. Don't know if this helps but FWIW.

Re: [CTRL] MREs

1998-12-18 Thread Hilary Thomas

 -Caveat Lector-

Jim,

Yes, I had read about the Kansas City stocking. I believe I read the same
postings about the homeless being hired for this work. If I understand,
MREs have a relatively short shelf life - perhaps 2 years. So, if someone
is stocking in the event of "something going down" they 1) haven't done
their homework with respect to how long the supplies would last or 2) have
done there homework and aren't expecting to need supplies for a very long
time, or 3) anticipate that something is going to occur within a relatively
short period of time and that that something would require stockpiling large
quantities of food. The number I heard for the West Virginia mountains
(which also included various types of equipment) was rations for 22 days for
500,000 people. They was the amount that this "person" saw but, didn't know
if there was more. If true, that is a heck of a lot of food.
