I figured I'd tune in for 20 minutes or so just to see what Monica was like. Then I sat spellbound for the next two hours. It was unbelievable. I've already seen some sound bites, and they don't scratch the surface. Indeed, what emerged from that comic caricature; "Monica", we all have had was a full, thinking woman. Compassionate, proud of her abundant sensuality, of her intelligence, with a sense of humor and deeply wounded by this ordeal. Of the Barbara Walters-Monica Lewinsky interview, what may stick in most people's mind the most is the chilling tale of of organized terrorism employed by the Ken Starr that has been enthusiastically supported by the Republicans. (Ken Starr may revoke Monica's immunity if she talks about this, so Barbara told much of it, punctuated by Monica's obvious terror.) How they ambushed Monica and grilled her in a hotel room for 12 hours without a lawyer. This was the day before the sprung the Clinton perjury trap? About how "it was the most frightening experience in my life." About how when she got home she and mother considered fleeing the country but were paralyzed with fear. About how Monica's mother made her take a shower with the shower door open because she feared Monica might hurt herself. And so much more. That fear seemingly continues to this day, and with good reason. The talking heads for the next few hours, including the comedy round table "Politically Incorrect" all cited this in historical context with terms like "the most frightening thing since McCarthyism," or the "Salem witch hunts." On this, all the normally antagonistic debaters were in agreement. What the talking heads did not mention is that is not an isolated incident, but that it may be part of a machine born in 1975 now coming to fruition. A small part.
