[CTRL] The Debate and The Media

1998-12-20 Thread Sno0wl

 -Caveat Lector-

I actually listened to the House debates todaycouldn't tear
myself away. I was really heartened to hear the Democratic speakers,
who surprised me with their eloquence as they virtually begged to be
allowed to put a motion for censure on the table. I am not a lawyer
and can't judge the content, but they certainly cited chapter and
verse and several precedents. The Republicans were absolutely
adamant in their claims that censure from the House would be
"UnConstitutional," and refused to even consider it. It seems that
everyone in the House made a statement, since they wanted those
statements in the record of the precedings.

The democratic speakers were also very eloquent in their anger
towards the Republicans, who, they claimed, refuse to address
and continue to block any action on social issues, etcmuch
impassioned speech that was actually heartening to hearbecause
if you listen to network news, you would never have guessed they had
much of anything to say. The evening news, and even the CNN
commentary, was decidedly slanted to the right. I also noted that
when they showed any Democrats speaking, they tended to show black
representatives opposing impeachment, and although many of the black
representatives were very impassioned and eloquent in their
anti-impeachment statements, when they were replayed on the evening
news they were cut off into odd 2 second sound bites that tended to
misrepresent what the person had said and leave out all the "social
and historic commentary" that was the heart of those statements. No
mention on the network news of the Democratic mass walkout before
the actual impeachment votes as a demonstration against the fierce
partisanship that clearly drove the impeachment.

It was an eye-opener in terms of what is going on down there in D.C.
I know it will not be a popular thing to say here, but I came away
with a lot more respect for the Democratic members of the House and
for Bernie Sanders of Vermont, who is the lone Independent (a
Socialist, actually.)

I also find it curious that we get absolutely no details and very
little discussion of why Mr. Livingston is stepping down. Why does he
deserve such consideration from the press in terms of privacy that he
gets off with an apology to his wife? And why is his party so rigid
that they are forcing him not only to give up the Speakership but to
resign from the House? What did he do? And who did he do it
with (You see what they've done to me! I want to know!!!)

Yes, it's a religious war between those Christians whose NT's say "Judge
not lest ye be judged" and "Let he who is without sin cast the first
stone", and those Republicans whose NT's have curiously been expunged of
these verses

Even when the democrats were allowed to speak, it was some weak statement that
aired ala "well, i just wish it didn't have to be impeachment. It seems to me
that it a censure would do." Actually, about one third of Americans prefered
that the matter simply be dropped but our kept press wasn't about to allow for
that.

Well I was watching ABC and the Canadian response this afternoon and they
were slanted to the left - all the talking heads kept subtly 'warning'
their Republican guests that the public majority didn't support them and
they may have cost themselves the next presidential election as a result
of going against public opinion.

It was mentioned ad nauseum this afternoon on ABC at least, Sam Donaldson
talked at length about it and tried to explain the rationale behind such a
move by the Democratic politicians. Indeed there was a huge mob of
reporters gathered outside to cover the walkout so I assume they have
reams of footage from the event.

SnowOwl, are these serious posts? If they are, then it goes to underscore
that we have a real cultural war (and religious war, the term Pat Buchanan
used at the 1992 GOP convention during that greatest of all convention
speeches in this century). The Democrats call good "evil", and evil "good"
in direct and flagrant contradiction to the Bible's injunction. The
Democratic minds in general, (Gephart, Marty Meehan, Patrick Kennedy, David
Bonior (sp?), Schumer, etc. etc. etc.) have become Satan-ized, and I would
never easily believe that people were actually saying these stupid,
illogical, evil things in Congress -- except that I am witnessing it with
my own eyes. Ten years ago, had I merely heard about these Democratic
speeches spewed forth today, I would have thought whoever told me about
them was making it up just to get a reaction out of me.

THIS WAS A GREAT DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD! Which neighborhood? EVERY
neighborhood. An evil man has been impeached and all he has done and stood
for -- from partial birth abortion, to usury to vulture capitalism to
wanton attacks with WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION on helpless, defenseless
women and children in a country that was not attacking anyone (Iraq) -- has
been tarnished forever. AND MORE!

The weasel Bob Livingston was outed and had to resign also. Thank God for
Bob Dornan, who unequivacolly called for Livingston's resignation Friday
night on FOX's Hannity & Colmes, as well as the resignation of all in
leadership positions who are exposed as adulterers. AND MORE! Mark Levine
of the Landmark Foundation has distinguished himself as the foremost
spokesman on the talk shows for refuting the dishonest professional Clinton
supporters and defending the reasons for impeachment WITH A CLARITY, VERVE,
and WITT that all the other talking heads together could not muster. This
(Clinton's Impeachment) is, as far as I know, the greatest defeat that
America's Ruling Elite has been dealt in my lifetime -- they strove migh
tily to save their puppet from impeachment - AND COULDN'T DO IT!. What a
day! Jim Condit Jr.

Once again, I have no idea what networks you watch, Marilyn, as every one
I watched made mention of the totally meaningless (my viewpoint)
Democratic gesture...

And so is not particularly independent, altho he claims to be
Independent...

Uh...maybe because he never had sex with a subordinate (according to
him), and was never required to give sworn testimony about such
relationships, and hence never committed perjury nor obstructed justice
in regards to them...

I suggest you reread, and constantly reread, the two articles of
impeachment, Marilyn...nowhere in those two articles does it say Clinton
was impeached because of an extramarital affair...

>And why is his party so rigid
>that they are forcing him not only to give up the Speakership but to

The AREN'T...this is Livingston's own choice, and took the Republicans by
surprise...if any party forced him, it's the Democrats who are insisting
on conducting a sexual witchhunt...

I wonder how many DEMOCRATS have strayed beyond the bounds of matrimony,
but who won't be 'outed' by Flynt et al...

You may be right, but from what I read a small group of key members
of the GOP whose votes he would have needed made it very clear they
would not support him.

As for the rest, I don't want to argue with you, June. It would be as
pointless as the debate in the house. As I've said before, we'll have
to agree to disagree. You are in a small hard-nosed minority that is,
in my opinion, driving the nation apart and moving us in a very
destructive direction.

We (my wife and i) had the same experience. We listened to many of the
speeches and to commentary following the votes on a local all news radio
station. The democrats' speeches were cut up on our station just as they were
for you. They often didn't make sense. Another stunt our station pulled was
to discuss opposing points by replaying a considerable piece of Livingston on
the matter and then merely paraphrase what the democrats said. It is
astonishing how the media is so well trained, the propaganda masters do not
even think about it.
