From: "derspatz" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Thu, May 27, 1999 7:28 AM Message-id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> The future in identification/tracking systems has just got a little bit closer. Here in the land of Oz our sporting types are going to have transponders sewn into their uniforms so that their performance can be tracked and analysed in real time via a radio triangulation interface to a computer system. The current unit, which is about the size of a CD case (as shown stuck to a footy-players forehead in the "Sunday Times" the other day) will end up about the size of a 20 cent piece. If all goes well, how long before this kind of unit will become standard in say school-kids clothing or office-workers uniforms, etc, etc, so to keep tabs on who is where and for how long ? ButOfCourse, a good way to annoy the Powers That Be who want to keep tabs on their sporting employees, would simply be to keep swapping your footy jumper with other players during the game ... or go topless. 8-) How long do you think before these devices will end up surgically installed/inserted/implanted in a more permanent/convenient place, though ? Fascinating that the unit was "modelled" on someone's forehead. Where would be the next best place - your right hand, perhaps ? See the links below for what I'm hinting at. http://www.avon.net.au/~derspatz/bodymark.htm (includes a link to an actual recent surgical implanting of a transponder in a human) http://www.www.jasonhommel.com regarDS ===== Subject: Re: The Thin End Of The Wedge. Notice the trend toward a cashless transaction economy? Oh boy, won't our large male sibling be in his glory then! But, the advent of nanotech has made such fears obsolete. For now, they can put the transponders our food, water, etc. And, even if that weren't possible, geo-synchronous "communications" satellites with high-resolution IR cameras could probably keep a good eye on all of our unique heat signatures anyway. All you would need is a microwave link to a couple of Cray XMPs, etc., running some adaptive software. After all, 300,000,000 isn't really that big a number... ;) -TRS ----- Aloha, He'Ping, Om, Shalom, Salaam. Em Hotep, Peace Be, Omnia Bona Bonis, All My Relations. Adieu, Adios, Aloha. Amen.
