HIGGINS .c The Associated Press GENEVA (AP) - The prosecutor in charge of investigating alleged Russian money laundering in Switzerland said Wednesday that Boris Yeltsin will be immune from Swiss questioning as long as he remains president of Russia. ``There's no question of interrogating President Yeltsin,'' Bernard Bertossa told The Associated Press. ``He is a head of state and has total immunity.'' Bertossa is overseeing the main Swiss investigation into allegations of Russian money-laundering, including supposed channels to the Bank of New York. Investigators have alleged that Russian businesses and individuals - including organized crime groups - illegally relayed billions of dollars through the American bank. On Tuesday, Swiss authorities announced the freezing of almost $17 million in bank accounts. Investigators suspect the accounts are linked to the alleged money laundering. No one has been charged in the case so far. Swiss officials already are helping Russian prosecutors investigate separate allegations of widespread corruption and kickbacks reaching to Yeltsin's family and close associates. One of the cases involves the Mabetex construction company in Lugano, Switzerland. Authorities suspect that several high-ranking Russian officials received kickbacks for helping the firm get large contracts for renovating the Kremlin. Suspended Russian prosecutor Yuri Skuratov said earlier this month that he had received Swiss documents alleging that President Yeltsin and his two daughters were among those receiving kickbacks. A top Kremlin official and Mabetex's president have denied the allegations. Bertossa declined to say whether it would be worthwhile questioning Yeltsin or his relatives.
