-Caveat Lector- The following article was in the local weekly paper I got this week...when the case of the local woman contacting anthrax broke earlier this week, I heard a brief mention made of this incident from last week, but TPTB apparently are dismissing a connection... What I find interesting is that the guy is Croatian, as was the first Greyhound bus attacker -- again, is this just coincidence? Derby is the town where Griffin Hospital is located, the hospital that Ottila Lundgren was taken to and which diagnosed her as having anthrax... FBI Agents arrested Amir Omerovic, 28, of Third Street Nov. 13, charging him with using the mail to send threatening letters and threatening the use of biological agents against the United States. Omerovic, a Croatian immigrant, allegedly sent one of the letters to Gov. John G. Rowland. No anthrax was found in the letters and it was determined Omerovic had no access to anthrax, police said. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in jail on the first charge and life on the second charge. The letters read, Anthrax is deadly, you breathe you die. HMS Illustrious is the flagship of three groups of warships travelling to the Middle East to take part in exercise Saif Sareea 2. More than 24 surface ships from Britain, plus two nuclear submarines, will be completing the 13,000 mile round trip. The operation, costing nearly £100m, will end with a major excercise before Christmas that will also involve the Army, Royal Air Force and Armed Forces of Oman. The cost has been put at nearly £100m The strike force has been put together to take part in a conflict between the fictional forces of the so-called state of 'Alawham' and those of Oman. British military planners want to see if they can muster the kind of rapid reaction force outlined in the defence review which took place in 1998. Rear Admiral James Burnell-Nugent CBE, Commander of the UK Maritime Forces, is heading the group. He said: This is a significant display of maritime power, we are sending 8,500 sailors, airmen, and Royal Marines to the Gulf Region. In total the Argonaut task group consists of 40 separate commands, brought together into an integrated, self-sustaining joint fighting force. The deployment will include the helicopter carrier HMS Ocean, the assault ship HMS Fearless, destroyers, frigates and mine countermeasures vessels. Maritime power Royal Fleet Auxiliary support ships will also be taking part in the exercise. Royal Marines from 3 Commando Brigade will be involved in amphibious landings on the coast of Oman. Speaking to BBC Radio Solent, Rear Admiral Burnell-Nugent said: One of the advantages that a naval task group brings is that it carries all of its logistics with it, a full range of capabilities from cruise missiles to laser-guided bombs to Royal Marine Commandos. He said he was aware that his forces, which include 23,000 British military personnel from all three services, could be redeployed at any moment. I'm not aware of any plans to do so, but there's a capability there which the government can draw on, he said. The plane caught fire after it crashed in a field shortly after it left suburban Front Range Airport, authorities said. There were no radio transmissions from the plane before the crash, said Dennis Heap, the airport's aviation director. Michael A. Chowdry, 45, chief executive of Atlas Air Inc., was piloting the L-39, a two-seat Czech jet-trainer, when it crashed. Chowdry was killed along with passenger, Jeff Cole, 45, the Wall Street Journal's aerospace editor. Cole was in Denver to interview Chowdry, according to the Journal. Atlas Air, based in Purchase, N.Y., hauls cargo for major airlines. It has 1,448 employees and a fleet of 34 Boeing 747 freighters. The company was founded in 1992 by Chowdry in suburban Golden. Richard Shuyler, Atlas Air executive vice president, said Chowdry, a native of Pakistan, started Atlas Air from a crop-dusting company he took over. The plane was owned by Amprite Electric Company Inc., a Nashville business that installs electrical wiring. The identities of the three executives killed were not released.
