Prudy I must say that your response has made me a little more content with this discussion forum as a whole. The honest, sincere manner of your reply is refreshing in CTRL, where it seems the rule is to be pretentious as to one's supposed knowledge of the current and historical (which many have obviously stretched to their limits and beyond) and to adopt some sort of hard-ass "official investigator of all conspiracies" persona. They take themselves (and what they plagiarize--I mean "write") all too seriously. I am glad to see your caring, human side. It's what makes us outraged by evils such as conspiracy, cruelty, and prejudice. Without it, we are no more than shovellers of someone else's shit : we just move the "information" they produce from one place to another for them and lose all context and human perspective as to why the things they do are crimes against free people with basic human rights. I hope I haven't tarnished your ex-military hard-ass image by painting you as a sensitive human being ! I've often marveled at the degree of trust I see. People will drink or whatever to the point where they must depend on others (frequently strangers) to see to it that they come out all right. They will tell co-workers things they wouldn't tell their mother. For example, Monica telling all and perhaps all-plus to a woman she had to know was angry and seeking revenge on the Clinton White House. However, since my response to you, I have recalled telling someone something I wish I had not said. It was an occasion in the military. A black friend was experiencing some problems with the school about one of her children. It was very clearly a matter of discrimination. She asked for my help in writing a letter to the base commander. I helped her, and I don't know what legal correspondence is like, but apparently the base must have thought she had hired an attorney. I received a telephone call from one of the installation chaplains who asked me (in a very roundabout way) if I had helped her write the letter. I told him I had, and the incident was blown off with the usual casual military manner. I wish I had not told him the truth, but I'm sure the commander was happy, because he didn't have to worry about dealing with a civilian lawyer about the discrimination. I did learn from the situation, of course. I no longer trust "men of the cloth" any more than I trust anyone else (which is very, very little). We do act differently in different environments, but it's all part of our basic psychological make-up.
