-Caveat Lector- Tom DeLay is rather interesting. It seems that he and our new speaker, Hastert, have been working together for a long time. The Feb 7 issue of "In These TImes" says "they have been deploying their good cop/bad cop routine in tandem for years." They claim that this has put DeLay in the catbird's seat on the new team. They also say "Hastert is steeped in the dour and puritanical traditions of German Protestantism, and his surface geniality and reputation as a man of his word will serve as the perfect cover for DeLay's draconian exigencies." They discuss DeLay's various tactics, etc., and then say: "Those menaces were backed by the shock troops of the Christian right and their feldkommandurs--Paul Weyrich, Gary Bauer, James Dobson and Randy Tate--with whom Delay works hand in glove.
