 This tells us that the hardware is fundamentally sound, i.e.
it is receiving data and acting on it.  That tends to indicate that
it is a driver issue.  msaitoh@ is our driver expert, so I'm going

Yeah, the most common problem with these old Ciscos is that the
autoconfiguration randomly fails -- sometimes after having worked well
again and again for a long time.


Those are the same switches that almost never autonegotiate properly with 
Sun HME (happy meal ethernet) cards. Every time I encounter them used with 
Sun hardware they are hard set to max speed @ full duplex. In the case of 
Sun gear, you had to hard set both the switch and the NIC. It was rather 
painful.
