It was "Ronin", an excellent movie with an Audi S8 involved in the car
chases. Absolutely superb, with loads of designer violence too:-)
Sean Bean playing a dweeb for a change!

Jeff, "Handgun" is an odd film - in colour BTW, not black & white - because
it was made by a Brit director whose name (infuriatingly) escapes me but who
is distinctly on the "respectable liberal art-film" side of the fence as
opposed to mass-market Hollywood. It is suggested that it was intended or
thought to be an attack on US "gun culture", but because any such message is
difficult to discern it has always proved amusingly difficult for lefty film
reviewers in The Guardian and elsewhere to categorise! Not a bad film I
think, though not wildly entertaining.

Quirkily 'Handgun' is often described as anti-gun.

Though why this should be I don't really know as it
seemed pretty balanced to me.

My copy of Halliwell's TV and Video Guide 2000 lists
Handgun as an EMI/Kestrel release in 1982 of 101
minutes. In their opinion it rates only one star but
I found it quite interesting if a little slow in places.

The plot line says ' A schoolmistress, raped at gunpoint,
takes her revenge' and ' Novel, feminist revenge drama
with a neat twist at the end'.

Starring - Karen Young, Clayton Day, Suzie Humphreys,
Helena Humann.

No to be confued with a crime drama of 1994 with the
same 'Handgun' title.

Regards

Jerry

The film pops in and out of the late night TV Schedules. It is called
Handgun, and if you haven't seen it then you may find it worth looking out
for. A young US woman is raped and responds, with hesitation, by training as
a pistol shot. She does it through a shooting club, and what are obviously
members of a real club put her through her paces, including a practical
comp.

It's also called "Deep in the hart" , directed by Tony Garnett 1983 (also
produced Between the lines and Ballykissangel)

I think the Woman was played by Karen Allen,
coincidentaly she was in a film on Channal 5 last night.
I've seen "Handgun" a couple of times and it always
struck me as being rather anti-gun, portraying shooters
as, surprise surprise, a bunch of Rambo's with sexual
problems, who only talk about Guns and shooting people.
I have to say that her method of dealing with the rapist
was rather good though, although what she did with the
Python in the end was a bit distressing :-(
