[resend2] TEST/1.5.2 tetex-texmf-2.0.2-12

2003-08-26 Thread Jan Nieuwenhuizen

[Sorry if you get this twice. Sent on Friday, resent on Sunday, but
still not in archive. It seems my address was marked down as
potential spammer. I guess that it is listed in a few too many
address lists guarded by lesser operating systems.]

Tetex-texmf is not a binary package, but there were some small fixes
and doc has been moved to usr/share. I think we should have tetex
verions in sync to avoid confusion.

   * increase pool size
   * add CWEBINPUTS to texmf.cnf
   * move doc to usr/share

I've waited to bring tetex-bin/tetex-texmf versions in sync to allow
more binary updates (we had -11 and -12) because tetex-texmf is a bit
large.

Please upload.

importlibraries names

2003-08-26 Thread Gerrit P. Haase
Hallo,

the importlibraries are named libxyz.dll.a (or the symlinks to the actual
libraries are). This is not a problem for the linker which will pick
them up when -lxyz is specified. But I have some configuration scripts
which are looking for libX11.a in the libdir which is pretty usual.

Would it be a problem to create the symlinks to be libxyz.a instead of
libxyz.dll.a in future releases or use the same names of the
importlibraries as it was before, without version included?

Sorry if this was already discussed before,

No. There are two types of import libs:

libfoo.dll.a which results in linking against the apropriate DLL and
libfoo.a which is the static lib. This scheme has been settled already
lng ago and is obeyed by binutils. If the configuration script
gets this wrong, the configuration script should be fixed.

Hmmm, since there are no .dll.a import libraries on linux, pretty much
configure scripts are failing at this point. It works well as long as
static and import libraries are provided as it is the case with the most
packages, but if there are no static libraries, what is lost if there
are no .dll.a files?

Windoze dialer starts when doing ssh to local machine

2003-08-26 Thread terry
Hello,

I have a Win98se machine running cygwin. After running startxwin.bat (no
multiwindow - twm running) and typing in 'ssh computer' in a terminal
window, the windows dialer appears. The windows machine is on a network
with only Linux machines, and is set up with a fixed IP address and
name. The windows machine currently uses a dialup connection for
internet/email access, but is being converted to using them through ssh
to a Linux machine (a process that may take a long while). The ssh
works fine after closing the dialer.

Is there a way to do the same function as /etc/resolve.conf to specify
the domain first as the order for looking for the host?

TIA,

terry

I got your contact from the Nigerian Chamber of

investigations resulting in a good recommendation. We
have decided to contact you to help us with the legal
Transfer of US$28,600,000.00 (Twenty-Eight Million
Six hundred Thousand United States Dollars). The amount
stated above resulted from an over-invoiced contract
executed for the Nigerian National Petroleum

been fully paid. Because this money was part of the
overall contract sum amounting to close to

The said amount has remained dormant and floating in
our Apex Bank. Therefore, we will raise supplementary
documents to enable us transfer into an account that
is yet to be nominated. We need a foreign partner,
because as civil servants, the code of conduct does
not allow us to operate foreign bank accounts. Hence
we solicit for your assistance, we are requesting you
to provide us with the help for the safekeeping of
this money until our arrival in your company to
collect our share and decide on investment
possibilities of this money.

For your assistance in this transaction, we have
unanimously agreed to offer you 30% of this money, 5%
will be used in settling any incidental expenses that
may arise and the remaining amount will be for us. To
enable the prompt transfer of this money, kindly send
to us your personal details, contact information
bank details in full.

We look forward to hearing from you and thanking you

contact us on the above Telephone and fax numbers to
maintain the confidentiality of the business. Sending

Sincere request !

2003-08-26 Thread Jonson Tubman
Dear friend,

This letter may come to you as a surprise due to the fact that we have not yet met,
but kindly consider the message, because, I am determined to live for posterity.

I wish to plead with you to join me in not only serving humanity, but to also benefit
in the process. This message could be strange but reality will definitely dawn on you,
if you pay some attention to its contents. Please accept my sincere apologies in
bringing this message to you; I have to say that I do not intend to cause you any
personal pains or discomfort.

I am Mr. Jonson Tubman, former Special Assistant to the Liberian President, Mr.
Charles Taylor, who just stepped down from the office of the President due to rebel's
insurgency who wants to overthrow his government. President Charles Taylor, in his bid
to fend-off rebel insurgency, and since he could no longer trust the army generals,
confidentially put in my care, the sum of $18,000,000.00 (eighteen million United
States dollars) in one instance for the purpose of purchasing arms and ammunitions
should the need arise. However, unfortunately, the need did not arise as he has gone
on exile. I deposited the US$18 million in a trunk box in a secret location and just
the two of us knew about it, and I could not get in touch with any arms dealer before
the President was indicted in a war crime tribunal set up by the United Nations (UN).
I have since held on to this trunk box, which I was able to transport out of Liberia
with the aid of peace keeping soldiers under the guise of conveying my personal
effects without anybody knowing, to a security deposit company.

I am presently in Africa, where I now work as a consultant on inter-regional
co-operation. I have borne the burden for too long. I do not want to keep the funds
any longer, but I can never turn it over to the brutal and tyrannical rogue regime of
Mr. Charles Taylor who is still committing all sorts of atrocities on the Liberian
people. I am NOT soliciting for your help to wage a war against the regime, but to act
as a foreign partner, to allow me transfer the funds to you, which you will in turn
donate a portion of it as a humanitarian gesture to the Liberian people by purchasing
such essential needs like blankets, milk and so on, water-pumping machines and
agricultural equipment, from the money after deducting your expenses and the
commission of 20%.

Please note that I could have approached the Red Cross Society, but I changed my mind
on that after calculating what they would deduct as commission, and also, after
rationalizing the scandal that followed their mismanagement of the donations meant for
the victims of the September 11th attack on the United States.

Also, note that this offer will give you a double-edged advantage:
1. As the benefactor of the Liberian people and;
2. The commission you stand to earn.

On getting a positive response from you, I will send to you the secret access codes to
the funds and the security and vault company. Please note that confidentiality and
honesty are fundamental rules in this transaction. Be assured that I am a reputable
personality in this country and I am mindful of the legal implications of this
transaction, as I intend taking care of all the legal documentations for a successful
and hitch-free transaction. You will be expected to take delivery of this fund
personally from the deposit company in Europe.

I am therefore soliciting your assistance to have this money collected by you and/or
facilitate the transfer into your nominated account(s). ***PLEASE NOTE THAT YOUR
CONFIDENTIALITY IN THIS TRANSACTION IS HIGHLY REQUIRED. I will give you the details of
this transaction on receipt of your response to this proposal. Thank you very much for
your time and understanding.

Yours sincerely,

Mr. Jonson Tubman

2003-08-26 Thread MR CHUNG LI

  FROM THE DESK OF:

MR.CHUNG LI
HANG SENG BANK LTD.
DES VOEUX RD.BRANCH
CENTRAL HONG KONG
HONG KONG.

I am Mr.Chung Li, credit officer of Hang Seng Bank Ltd,.
I have an urgent and very confidential business
proposition for you.

On June 6, 1998, a British Oil consultant/
contractor with the Chinese Solid Minerals
Corporation, Mr. Smith Lawrence made a numbered
time (Fixed) Deposit for twelve calendar months,
valued at US$28,000,000.00
(Twenty-eight Million Dollars only) in my branch.
Upon maturity,I sent a routine notification
to his forwarding address but got no reply.
After a month, we sent a reminder and finally
we discovered from his contract employers,
the Hong Kong Solid Minerals Corporation that
Mr. Smith Lawrence died from an automobile
accident. On further investigation, I found
out that he died without making a WILL, and
all attempts to trace! his next of kin was
fruitless.

I therefore made further investigation and
discovered that Mr. Smith Lawrence did not
declare any kin or relations in all his
official documents, including his Bank Deposit
paperwork in my Bank. This sum of US$28,000,000.00
is still sitting in my Bank and the interest
is being rolled over with the principal sum
at the end of each year. No one will ever
come forward to claim it. According to Laws
of Hong Kong, at the expiration of 5
(five) years, the money will revert to the
ownership of the Hong Kong Government if nobody
applies to claim the fund.

Consequently, my proposal is that I will like
you as a foreigner to stand in as the next of
kin to Mr. Smith Lawrence so that the fruits
of this old man's labor will not get into the
hands of some corrupt government officials.
This is simple, I will like you to provide
immediately your ful! l names and address so
that the attorney will prepare the necessary
documents and affidavits that will put you in
place as the next of kin. We shall employ
the services of an attorney for drafting and
notarization of the WILL and to obtain the
necessary documents and letter of probate/
administration in your favor for the transfer.
A bank account in any part of the world that
you will provide will then facilitate the transfer
of this money to you as the beneficiary/next of kin.

The money will be paid into your account for us to
share in the ratio of 85% for me and 15% for you.

There is no risk at all as all the paperwork
for this transaction will be done by the attorney
and my position as the credit officer guarantees
the successful execution of this transaction. If you are interested,
please reply immediately to my email box.

Upon your response, I shall then provide you w! ith more details and
relevant documents that will help you understand the transaction.

Please send me your confidential telephone and fax numbers for easy
communication.

You should observe utmost confidentiality, and
rest assured that this transaction would be
most profitable for both of us because I shall
require your assistance to invest my share in
your country.

Awaiting your urgent reply

Thanks and regards

 Mr. CHUNG LI

STRICTLY A PRIVATE BUSINESS PROPOSAL
I am Dr.Davis.Yoga.Paul,a manager in the Bills and Exchange at the Foreign Remittance
Department of the ZENITH INTERNATIONAL BANK I am writing this letter to ask for your
support and cooperation to carry out this business opportunity in my department. We
discovered an abandoned sum of$15,000,000.00 (Fifteen million United States Dollars
only) in an account that belongs to one of our foreign customers who died along with
his entire family of a wife and two children in November 1997 in a Plane crash.Since
we heard of his death, we have been expecting his next-of-kin to come over and put
claims for his money as the heir, because we cannot release the fund from his account
unless someone applies for claim as the next-of-kin to the deceased as indicated in
our banking guidelines.Unfortunately, neither their family member nor distant relative
has everappeared to claim the said fund. Upon this discovery, I and other officials in
my department have agreed to make business with you and release the total amount into
your account as the heir of the fund since no one came for it ordiscovered he
maintained account with our bank, otherwise the fund will be returned to the banks
treasury as unclaimed fund.We have agreed that our ratio of sharing will be as stated
thus;20 % for you as foreign partner,75 % for us the officials in my department and 5
% for the settlement of all local and foreign expences incurred by us and you during
the course of this business.Upon the successful completion of this transfer, I and one
of my colleagues will come to your country and mind our share. It is from our 75 % we
intend to import Agricultural Machineries into my country as a way of recycling the
fund. To commence this transaction, we require you to immediately indicate your
interest by a return e-mail and enclose your private contact telephone number, fax
number full name and address and your designated bank coordinates to enable us file
letter of claim to the appropriate departments for necessary approvals before the
transfer can be made.Note also, this transaction must be kept STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL
because of its nature. I look forward to receiving your prompt response. Alternative /

Re-Urgent?

2003-08-26 Thread Mr David Isaac
From: Engr David Isaac
Sango Power House,
Marina
Lagos

REQUEST FOR URGENT BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP- TRANSFER OF US$25,500,000.00

I am Engr David Isaac a director in the project and planning
department of the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA), I
head a seven man Tenders Board Committee in charge of contract award
and Payment approvals. I came to know of you in my search for a reliable and
reputable person to handle a very confidential transaction, which involves the
transfer of a huge sum of money to a foreign account.

There were series of contracts executed by a consortium of
Multinationals in the power industry in favour of the (NEPA) among
which were;

1) The expansion of Power line network within Nigeria for power
distribution.
2) Contract for Turn Around Maintenance (TAM) of various Gas Turbines
in the country.

The original value of of these contracts were deliberately over
invoiced in the sum of Twenty Five million, Five Hundred
Thousand United States Dollars (US$25,500,000.00) which has recently
been approved and now ready to be transferred.
However the companies that actually executed the aforementioned
contract have been fully paid and the projects officially
commissioned.

Consequently, my colleagues and I are willing to transfer the total
amount into your account for subsequent disbursement,
since we as civil servants are prohibited by the Code of Conduct Bureau
(Civil Service Laws) from opening and/or operating
foreign accounts in our names.

Needless to say, the trust reposed in you at this juncture is enormous.
In return, we have agreed amongst ourselves to offer
you 30% of the transferred sum, 5% shall be set aside for any
incidental expenses during the course of this transaction, you
will then be mandated to revert the balance to us in due course.

You must however NOTE that this transaction is subject to the follwing
terms and conditions; our conviction of your transparent
honesty and dilligence, that you must accord this transaction with
utmost confidentiality and secrecy.

Modalities have been worked out at the highest levels of the Ministry
of Finance, Central Bank of Nigeria and the Presidential
Task Force on Contract Payment for the immediate remittance of the
funds within 10 -14 working days subject to your
satisfaction of the above terms. Our assurance is that your role shall
be totally risk free . To accord this transaction the legality it
deserves, and for mutual security of funds, the whole procedures shall
be legally processed with your name or any company
you may nominate as the bona fide final beneficiary.

Once more, I want you to understand that having put in over 20years in
the Civil Service of my country, I am very much averse to
having my image and career dented. This matter should therefore be
treated with utmost secrecy and urgency. Kindly expedite
immediate action as we are well behind schedule to enable us include
this transfer in the Third batch of the 2003 fiscal year
contract payments.

Best Regards

Engr David Isaac.

Good News

2003-08-26 Thread Engr. Egbert Imomoh
Dear Sir/Madam,

Forgive my indignation if this message comes to you as
a surprise and if it might offend you without your
prior consent and writing through this channel.

I am Engr. Egbert Imomoh, The Chairman, of the Contract
Award Committee (CAC) of the Nigerian National
Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). I got your contact
through my countrys foreign trade mission after I was
convinced in my mind that you or your company can act
as the beneficiary of the USD17, 850,000.00 (seventeen
Million eight hundred fifty thousand United States Dollars only) Which we intend to
transfer into a foreign
account.

This fund was a residue of the over invoiced contract
bills awarded by us for the TURN AROUND MAINTENANCE
(TAM) of our Refineries in WARRI, PORT-HARCOURT and
KADUNA and also the Supply of hard/soft wares,
pharmaceuticals/medical items, light and heavy duty
vehicles, apparels and other administrative logistics
for the NNPC.

Therefore, we have resolved to go into partnership
with you to transfer the sum of US$17.850m into your
account, by awarding your company an invented contract
to the tune of US$17.850m. While we must carryout proper
documentation to ensure that this is 100% risk-free
for you and all the legal requirements are met. It is
however agreed, as the account owner in this deal to
allow you 20% of the entire sum as compensation, 70%
will be held on trust for us while 10% will be used to
defray any incidental charges and costs during the
course of the transaction. This transaction will be
successfully concluded within 14 Bank Working days.
If you accord to us your unalloyed and due
cooperation.

Be rest assured that this proposal is 100% risk-free
and please, keep this very confidential, as we are
still civil servants in active service and are bounded
by the civil service commission acts of Nigeria. This
acts Prohibits Civil Servants (like us) from
owning/operating foreign accounts. This is the only
reason we contacted you and where you come into this
transaction.

Finally, I wish to assure you that all the machinery
and logistics that will ensure a successful and smooth
transfer have been put in place. Since we are going to
use our connections in the Federal Ministry of Finance
(FMF) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to effect
the immediate transfer of the funds. Please endeavor
to reply for a more detailed information.
I anticipate your urgent response.

Thank you and God bless you.

I would like to use this function down to 10 milliseconds accuracy if
 possible.
 However upon looking at winsup/cygwin/thread.cc,
it uses the function ftime and the millisecond field is ignored.

This is already fixed. Try the snapshot.
Bit do not expect that you can use it with 10 ms delays. Windows is not

RE: Failing to delete files that is hold by makegroup

2003-08-26 Thread Igor Pechtchanski
Johan,

Well, for one, why not use rm -rf instead? I'm not at all sure the -d
flag is even implemented on Cygwin.

Also, the value mkgroup_l_d for your group means that your /etc/group
doesn't contain the group of the file owner. Please make sure it's up to
date (see http://cygwin.com/cygwin-ug-net/ntsec.html).

If the above still doesn't help, perhaps someone more knowledgeable in
ntsec behavior can chime in. BTW, can you delete the directory using
Windows explorer (I'm not suggesting this as a workaround, just a data
point)?

RE: Failing to delete files that is hold by makegroup

2003-08-26 Thread Johan Kruger
Hello Igor,

The files could not even be deleted in Windows Explorer, I have searched and tried I'd
say 30 methods if not more. Then suddenly I ran a script file trying to build code
into the same directory and whala the directories just dissappear. I think it may be
possible that make was somehow, even after rebootting still holding some links to the
files, I do not know as I have never had this problem on my XP machine. Mabe this is a
Windows2K feature ?

Thanks in any case for your suggestions, the newbie is taking note !

BTW, can you delete the directory using
Windows explorer (I'm not suggesting this as a workaround, just a data
point)?

I've been away for a week, hence the delayed response.

Thanks for this and clearly my scriptlet was broken. I've now tried
both alternatives as suggested below. Both work perfectly under Linux.
 Neither works under NT4.

Linux output:

script is executable

NT4 output:

I damn well am!

To eliminate error further, I'm now running just one copy of the script,
since the disk I use on my Linux box is mapped to the i: drive on the
NT4 box.

Strange it seems to work correctly for you but not for me.

I cut out the relevant fragments and built a demo. The idea is that if

Reliability? You never know from the name if it's a shared or a static
import lib.

The configuration script is just faulty. A configuration script should
test if linking against -lfoo works, not if there's a library called
libfoo.a. It's not exactly right to assume that all platforms are using
this naming scheme. A platform might as well use foo.lib or something
entirely different. Or, even simpler, as on Linux where libfoo.so is ok,
too. Does the script test for .so files? If so, why not testing for
.dll.a files as well?

Seriously, though -- Cygwin is GPL'd software. There's *usually* no need
to purchase the buyout license that RedHat offers. Your students should
have no legal problems downloading Cygwin, installing it, and using it for
a class.

However, the GPL does contain some restrictions -- be sure to at least
read the GPL FAQ (search the list archives for a link). One potential
pitfall (and IANAL, so please consult with one) is that if you distribute
the binaries to your students yourself (rather than point them to the
Cygwin site), you should also distribute the corresponding sources.
Another is that the code linked with the Cygwin DLL should adhere to a
certain type of licensing before being distributed (again, this is in the
FAQ). Most people don't find these cumbersome, but do consult a lawyer if
you're worried or unsure.

One thing that might help is issuing the failing compile command with a -E
gcc flag instead of -c to get the result of the preprocessor (on stdout).
You can then see if the declaration of crypt() actually makes it into the
preprocessed source.

after running setup.exe and pointing it at my c: repository, I got a
message that it couldn't find cygpopt-0.dll.

I used the search packages page on the cygwin website, and it said that
this file is a part of the libpopt package, but I can't find that package
in any of the mirrors.

Where is it?

Thanks for the help.

Try the Full view in setup. This should show all the available packages
in alphabetical order.

Well, deleting cygipc's temporary files in /tmp did the trick without
any uninstalls. (The specific files are listed in the postgres readme)

I haven't noticed any drawbacks to having 1.14-1 instead of 2.x, but

I've gone through all the steps to set up postgreSQL on windows XP. I
have updated permissions (to /tmp /usr/bin /usr/bin/*), verified the
system path variable, and verified that ipc and postmaster services
have
been started. I don't understand why I'm getting the following error:

 $ psql -U postgres template1
psql: could not connect to server: No such file or directory
Is the server running locally and accepting
connections on Unix domain socket /tmp/.s.PGSQL.5432?

The error does not change if I log in as myself or as postgres.
Any hints as to what to try would be greatly appreciated.

Would it be a problem to create the symlinks to be libxyz.a instead of
libxyz.dll.a in future releases or use the same names of the

Reliability? You never know from the name if it's a shared or a static
 import lib.

What for, everyone knows that all Xfree libraries are shared libs and
if you don't know it, what happens if you link against them? The link
succeeds, if it is shared or not. I still cannot see the benefit why
an importlibrary *must* be suffixed with .dll.a as long as there is no
static archive with this name.

Sure, I can fix all my configure scripts. I like these small
configure tests, they are much faster than trying to link against
libfoo works.

So long,
Gerrit

Jan You can simply mirror the Cygwin distribution on your server. Run
Jan setup.exe on the windows client, and enter your server as download
Jan mirror. Consult the cygwin mailing list archives.

All I wanted was Lilypond on my Windows machines

Yes, me too :-)

I do not want to know how cygwin works; i have used it in the past
 without any detailed knowledge.

Well, lilypond is not different from any other Cygwin package. Just
use Cygwin as you did in the past.

I am not interested in cygwin, just music typesetting.

This will not get you very far.

Jan.

which bring us back to the original question; is there a working
version of Lilypond that is available for Windows? I am suspecting
that the answer is no, unless you have all kinds of additional
facilities like direct net connection.

PS I did find a version (1.6) that seems to install on RedHat7.3.
Until the disk failure I had used 1.4

You only need the net connection for downloading the Cygwin packages
needed in the installation. Once you have them on local disk or a
CD, you can run the installation without any network connection.
In principle it's very easy also if you only have access
to a Linux computer with a CD burner or file sharing possibilities
to your windows machine, just copy the necessary files from any
Cygwin mirror (preserving the directory structure). The main
practical problem is to selectively download only the packages
you need, since a full copy may be to large to handle.
Unfortunately I'm running a partly experimental installation
at the moment, so it's no use to copy my list of packages, but
the list of packages found at the end of
http://mail.gnu.org/archive/html/lilypond-user/2003-08/txt1.txt
(under the title Cygwin Package Information) should be recent
enough to be relevant.
