[ANNOUNCEMENT] [announcement] updated singular-*-3.1.0-1
Version 3.1.0-1 of "Singular" has been uploaded. About: SINGULAR is a Computer Algebra System for polynomial computations with special emphasis on the needs of commutative algebra, algebraic geometry, and singularity theory. NEWS and CHANGES in SINGULAR 3-1-0 (You will also find this and more detailed information at http://www.singular.uni-kl.de/Manual/3-1-0/sing_1575.htm) * new coefficients: Z, Z/m, Z/(2^n) (see Rings and orderings) * new handling of the default argument in libraries (see Parameter list) * ESingular updated for emacs 22 * licences for all parts of SINGULAR clarified (see Preface) New SINGULAR functions * new command: kernel (see kernel) * new command: sqrfree (see sqrfree) * command changed: the first argument to monitor should be an ASCII link. (see monitor) * command extended: eliminate: variables to eliminate may also be given as intvec. (see eliminate) Internal Changes * handling of large input for std improved * interred implemented in a different way * kbase honors the attribute "isHomog" * jacob accepts modules and matrices * gcd over algebraic extensions of the rationals implemented in a different way * new build target: libsingular.a (for gfan etc.) * code variants now depend on CPU type, not OS * better test for built-in limits (see Limitations) * operator new(size_t,const std::nothrow_t&) now also overloaded New SINGULAR libraries * surfex: new version 0.90 * new library: redcgs.lib * new library: tropical.lib * new library: polymake.lib * new library: sing4ti2.lib * new library: decodegb.lib * new library: dmodapp.lib * new library: bfun.lib global * new library: freegb.lib * new library: jacobson.lib * contributed library: cimonom.lib * contributed library: phindex.lib Changed SINGULAR libraries * normal.lib ( normal_lib): changed structure of the result, new algorithms have been implemented which improve performance * elim.lib ( elim_lib): elim, nselect, select, select1: changed syntax * homolog.lib: kernel renamed to hom_kernel. * matrix.lib ( matrix_lib): new commands for computing symmetric/exterior powers/bases * surf.lib: new command surfer: interface to program surfer * teachstd.lib ( teachstd_lib): spoly works now in non-commutative algebras and standard can thus be used there. However, since product criterion is a priori not applicable in the non-commutative case, one may want to disable it first * many changes of names in libraries (to have a more consistent naming scheme) Frank Seelisch seeli...@mathematik.uni-kl.de -- Unsubscribe info: http://cygwin.com/ml/#unsubscribe-simple Problem reports: http://cygwin.com/problems.html Documentation: http://cygwin.com/docs.html FAQ: http://cygwin.com/faq/
endless loop while setup under Windows XP
Ok, maybe my initial mail was a bit too detailed... Let me try to ask this once again, straight to the point: Why does my cygwin installation get caught in an endless loop? See the setup.log's: http://www.mathematik.uni-kl.de/~seelisch/setup.log and http://www.mathematik.uni-kl.de/~seelisch/setup.log.full. characteristics: OS is Windows XP; no cygwin installation on the PC yet; no reg entries related to cygwin, no path variables pointing to cygwin. Thanks for any advice, Frank -- Unsubscribe info: http://cygwin.com/ml/#unsubscribe-simple Problem reports: http://cygwin.com/problems.html Documentation: http://cygwin.com/docs.html FAQ: http://cygwin.com/faq/
install problems under XP: setup.exe goes into an endless loop while looking for setup.ini
I am having install problems under XP: Setup.exe seems to go into an endless loop while looking for setup.ini. Here's what happened: We've bundled a new major release of Singular; it's our release 3-1-0. (The current Singular packages in cygwin are version 3-0-4.) Some two weeks ago I made a test and successfully built a Windows install executable using cygwin setup.exe, our Singular sources, and PackageForTheWeb. (We always do that after each Singular release, in order to provide our maths colleagues with a one-file-install version for Singular; you can find the working file at http://www.mathematik.uni-kl.de/~seelisch/Singular-3-1-0-beta-Small.exe) Now, as our Singular release 3-1-0 is complete, I wanted to repeat this same build procedure. For that, I downloaded your latest setup.exe. And again, I managed to create a one-file-install-exe (http://www.mathematik.uni-kl.de/~seelisch/Singular-3-1-0-Small.exe) but when I now try to install it on my test PC, the setup goes into an endless loop. It looks like this: http://www.mathematik.uni-kl.de/~seelisch/InstallLoop.JPG (The progress bar goes from 0% to 100% and then starts all over again with 0%; and so on.) Setup.log's are here: http://www.mathematik.uni-kl.de/~seelisch/setup.log and http://www.mathematik.uni-kl.de/~seelisch/setup.log.full. The content of C:\cygwin\etc\setup\last-cache is C:\DOCUME~1\Frank\LOCALS~1\Temp\pft4.tmp Can you please give me advice what's going wrong with my test installation. (The test PC I use is always cleaned up with respect to cygwin, that is, there is no cygwin installation on it and all registry entries, and path variable entries pointing to cygwin have been removed.)
