2012-10-20 Thread Jari Aalto

PACKAGE DESCRIPTION
===

The goal of program is to be lightweight and responsive; not
encumbered with unnecessary features. The interface is designed to

[ANNOUNCEMENT] New package: svn-load 1.3-1 -- An enhanced import facility for Subversion

2012-10-20 Thread Jari Aalto

PACKAGE DESCRIPTION
===

Homepage:  http://packages.debian.org/svn-load
License : Custom (AS IS)

A free replacement for svn_load_dirs, an enhanced import facility for
Subversion. The utility will commit a single changeset that alters a
repository subtree to match a local directory. It detects filenames
that have been removed or created, and uses this knowledge to prompt
the user about file and directory movements within the subtree. An
automatic tagging option is also supported. Svn-load is well suited
for vendor branch maintenance, where external source is routinely
imported and merged.

[ANNOUNCEMENT] New package: pax 20120606-1 -- Portable Archive Interchange

2012-10-20 Thread Jari Aalto

PACKAGE DESCRIPTION
===

Homepage: http://packages.debian.org/sid/pax

pax is an implementation of an archiving utility that reads
and writes several formats - traditional ones, the extended
formats specified in IEEE 1003.1, and the ar(5) format. The
pax interface was designed by IEEE 1003.2 as a compromise in
the chronic controversy over which of tar or cpio is best, but
this implementation offers paxcpio and paxtar for easy calling.

A paging program that displays, one windowful at a time, the contents
of a file on a terminal. Unlike other well-known paging programs most
supports multiple windows and can scroll left and right. A status line
at the bottom of the screen displays the file name, the current line
number and the percentage of the file so far displayed. Unlike other
paging programs, most is capable of displaying an arbitrary number of
windows as long as they all fit on the screen, and different windows
could be used to view the same file in different positions. In
addition to displaying ordinary text files, most can also display
binary files as well as files with arbitrary ascii characters.

Extract text (in the ISO 8859-1 character set) from a PostScript or

ps2ascii program that comes with ghostscript. The output of pstotext

[ANNOUNCEMENT] updated: makeself 2.1.5+20120813+gitdcbe778-1 -- Utility to generate self-extractable archives

2012-10-20 Thread Jari Aalto

PACKAGE DESCRIPTION
===

Homepage: http://www.megastep.org/makeself
License : GPL-2+

A small utility to generate a self-extractable archive from a
directory. The resulting file appears as a shell script (many of those
have a .run suffix), and can be launched as is. The archive will then
uncompress itself to a temporary directory and an optional arbitrary
command will be executed (for example an installation script). This is
pretty similar to archives generated with WinZip Self-Extractor in the
Windows world. Makeself archives also include checksums for integrity
self-validation (CRC and/or MD5 checksums).

[ANNOUNCEMENT] Updated: keychain 2.7.1-1 -- Key manager for OpenSSH

2012-10-20 Thread Jari Aalto

PACKAGE DESCRIPTION
===

Homepage: https://github.com/funtoo/keychain
License : GPL

Keychain is an OpenSSH key manager, typically run from
~/.bash_profile. When keychain is run, it checks for a running
ssh-agent, otherwise it starts one. It saves the ssh-agent environment
variables to ~/.keychain/$HOSTNAME-sh, so that subsequent logins
and non-interactive shells such as cron jobs can source the file and
make passwordless ssh connections. In addition, when keychain runs, it
verifies that the key files specified on the command-line are known to
ssh-agent, otherwise it loads them, prompting you for a password if
necessary.

New package: svn-load 1.3-1 -- An enhanced import facility for Subversion

2012-10-20 Thread Jari Aalto

PACKAGE DESCRIPTION
===

New package: pax 20120606-1 -- Portable Archive Interchange

2012-10-20 Thread Jari Aalto

PACKAGE DESCRIPTION
===

Homepage: http://packages.debian.org/sid/pax
License : BSD

pax is an implementation of an archiving utility that reads
and writes several formats - traditional ones, the extended
formats specified in IEEE 1003.1, and the ar(5) format. The
pax interface was designed by IEEE 1003.2 as a compromise in
the chronic controversy over which of tar or cpio is best, but
this implementation offers paxcpio and paxtar for easy calling.

New package: most 5.0.0.1-1 -- decription

2012-10-20 Thread Jari Aalto

PACKAGE DESCRIPTION

Homepage: http://freecode.com/projects/most
License : GPL

A paging program that displays, one windowful at a time, the contents
of a file on a terminal. Unlike other well-known paging programs most
supports multiple windows and can scroll left and right. A status line
at the bottom of the screen displays the file name, the current line
number and the percentage of the file so far displayed. Unlike other
paging programs, most is capable of displaying an arbitrary number of
windows as long as they all fit on the screen, and different windows
could be used to view the same file in different positions. In
addition to displaying ordinary text files, most can also display
binary files as well as files with arbitrary ascii characters.

New package: pstotext 1.9-1 -- Extract text from PostScript and PDF files

2012-10-20 Thread Jari Aalto

PACKAGE DESCRIPTION

Homepage: http://freecode.com/projects/pstotext
License : Custom (grant ... free of charge)

Extract text (in the ISO 8859-1 character set) from a PostScript or
PDF (Portable Document Format) file. Thus, pstotext is similar to the
ps2ascii program that comes with ghostscript. The output of pstotext
is however better than that of ps2ascii, because pstotext deals better
with punctuation and ligatures.

updated: makeself 2.1.5+20120813+gitdcbe778-1 -- Utility to generate self-extractable archives

2012-10-20 Thread Jari Aalto

PACKAGE DESCRIPTION
===

Updated: keychain 2.7.1-1 -- Key manager for OpenSSH

2012-10-20 Thread Jari Aalto

PACKAGE DESCRIPTION
===

Homepage: https://github.com/funtoo/keychain
License : GPL

Keychain is an OpenSSH key manager, typically run from
~/.bash_profile. When keychain is run, it checks for a running
ssh-agent, otherwise it starts one. It saves the ssh-agent environment
variables to ~/.keychain/$HOSTNAME-sh, so that subsequent logins
and non-interactive shells such as cron jobs can source the file and
make passwordless ssh connections. In addition, when keychain runs, it
verifies that the key files specified on the command-line are known to
ssh-agent, otherwise it loads them, prompting you for a password if
necessary.

The idea of the utility is, not to connect any SSH server, but to your own

port. From there, you can springboard elsewhere.

If anyone can test this kind of setup as outlined in:

[ANNOUNCEMENT] Updated: quilt 0.60-1 -- Tool to work with series of patches

2012-09-26 Thread Jari Aalto

PACKAGE DESCRIPTION
===

Homepage: http://freshmeat.net/projects/quilt
License : GPL

Tool to work with series of patches

Program manages a series of patches by keeping track of the changes each
of them makes. They are logically organized as a stack, and you can
apply, un-apply, refresh them easily by traveling into the stack
(push/pop). Quilt is good for managing additional patches applied to a
package received as a tarball or maintained in another version control
system. The stacked organization proved to be efficient for the
management of very large patch sets (more than hundred patches).

With quilt, all work occurs within a single directory tree. Since
version 0.30, commands can be invoqued from anywhere within the source
tree. Commands are of the form quilt cmd, similar to CVS commands.
They can be abbreviated as long as the specified part of the command
is unique. All commands print some help text with quilt cmd -h.

CHANGES SINCE LAST RELEASE
==

- Use $EDITOR in commands
- Executable flags of files in in Quilt script directory corrected.

Updated: quilt 0.60-1 -- Tool to work with series of patches

2012-09-26 Thread Jari Aalto

PACKAGE DESCRIPTION
===

==

- Use $EDITOR in commands
- Executable flags of files in in Quilt script directory corrected.

Packaging Java related software?

2012-09-25 Thread Jari Aalto

I ran into a good quality tool for Java:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/jcsc

JCSC is a highly configurable checking tool for your Java source code.
It checks the compliance to a defineable coding standard like naming
conventions and code structure. Also signs of bad coding, potential
bugs are found. JCSC is inspired by lint.

What would you think about packaging Java software for Cygwin?

Java is usually installed as it is needed in web pages.

If someone wants to try:

wget http://cante.net/~jaalto/tmp/cygwin/jcsc/jcsc-0.98.1-1.tar.bz2
tar -C / -xf jcsc-0.98.1-1.tar.bz2

which java # make sure you have Oracle Java in PATH

sdesc: Python module to rebuild a abstract syntax tree (AST)
ldesc: Provides a common base representation of Python source code for
projects such as pychecker, pyreverse, pylint. It provides a
compatible representation which comes from the `_ast` module. The
module rebuilds the generated tree by recursively walking down the AST
and building an extended ast (let's call it astng ;). The new node
classes have additional methods and attributes for different usages.
They include some support for static inference and local name scopes.
Furthermore, astng builds partial trees by inspecting living objects.
