please allow specifying version when using command line installer

2017-03-16 Thread Theisen, Lucas
Right now, libxml2 version 2.9.4 has a bug
(https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=766834) that causes perl
XML::LibXML to fail to install
(https://rt.cpan.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=114638).  Because of this, I
need to ensure my team keeps the previous version 2.9.3. In order to ensure
consistent installs across my team I have an install wrapper
(https://github.com/lucastheisen/cygwin-setup) which uses the command line
installer to install the packages that are needed. However, the command line
installer appears to ignore versions. I specified:

"libxml2-2.9.3-1",
"libxml2-devel-2.9.3-1",

But still ended up with version 2.9.4 (the latest) installed. Am I doing
something wrong or is this not supported? If not supported, could it be added?

Thank you,
Lucas Theisen

1.7.25x64 bug in bash vi option 'dd' command

2013-10-11 Thread Theisen, Lucas
When using the vi option in a bash shell the 'dd' command will move the cursor
to the beginning of the line but not delete anything. In previous versions, it
worked as expected (deleted the line and moved the cursor to the beginning of
the line).

To reproduce:

1)  Install Cygwin 1.7.25 64 bit
2)  Open a terminal
3)  Set the vi option `set -o vi`
4) Type a command followed by esc followed by `dd`

What will happen: Cursor will move to position 0

What should happen: All text gets deleted and cursor moves to position 0

Environment:

Windows 7 Professional x64

No response

2009-10-05 Thread Will Lucas
Hello,

I posted to this list on Sept 23 with the subject header Help with
xfce4 on Cygwin/X and received no response whatsoever.
Needless to say most of the issues I was having were resolved through
trial and error.

I've found the best way to start xfce is to start the X server and add
startxfce4 to my system.Xwinrc file and launch it from the
X-applications menu.  Most everything works.
And the compositor works great! What a cool feature for someone who's
never experienced transparency.

Remaining issues include apps launched from the menus not workin (i..e
 Log out, About Xfce, Settings Manager--yet this works from a local
xterm window with xfce4-settings-manager.exe)
I did see on the xfce site that it mentions there's a fix in 4.6 BETA
for bug fix 4559 re xfconf and cygwin but these appear unrelated.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What about a browser? Is there a pending cygport of Midori coming.
I seem to remember Yaakov

Help with xfce4 on Cygwin/X

2009-09-23 Thread Will Lucas
Hello,

I've subscribed over at Xfce user's mailing list but wanted to start
here before asking there...

I'm using cygwin-1.7 and the 1.6 Xserver. Previously I've tried to
use the fluxbox (built fine but won't start b/c of missing shared
libs) and used wmaker but it was dull.
I've only used the X-Server for GNU emacs.
I was thrilled when I figured out how to correctly install packages
from the cygwinports project and got pretty far along with xfce4.
I was hoping to sort out some issues (described below) and learn more
about the limitations/best practices of the available packages
(starting with xfce4). Thanks in advance for any assistance. I've
looked in the FAQ's http://x.cygwin.com/docs/faq/cygwin-x-faq.html but
haven't found any answers.I  copied the xfce4 auto-generated .config
directory to my cygwin $HOME/.config but configuring xfce4 in Linux
seems tricky enough without having to add in the cygwin layer...here's
how I've started xfce4:
I installed the necessary packages from the mirror and can have used 3
ways to start xfce4:

1) Using a .bat file with (in addition to the usual sets and cleanup stuff):

%RUN% XWin -clipboard -silent-dup-error
%RUN% xterm -e /usr/bin/bash -l
startxfce4

2) Using a .bat file with:
%RUN% XWin -keyhook -clipboard -silent-dup-error
%RUN% xfdesktop

3)  Firing up a normal cygwin shell and using 'startxfce4'

RESULTS:
#1 gives best results with desktop, bottom panel and icons looking
good.  Even the splash screen looks good during startup (couldn't find
'Balou Splash Engine' but 'Mice' worked fine.)
#2 loads with missing icons and the bottom panel either cut off or not
loading.  No mouse icon, just a small line.
#3 Starts the X server and that's it.  Msgs in cygwin shell indicate
several incompatible requests coming from shell script outlined in FAQ
but that's enough to tell me I don't want to start xfce this way.

Starting xfce4 with choice 1 seems best but there are some issues:
A)  'Tips and tricks' won't display anything; err msg in (initial
xterm session window which runs throughout xfce session) states:
/bin/sh: fortune: command not found
B)  Log out icons not working:
      4 [main] xfce4-panel 3996 fork: child -1 - died waiting for
longjmp before initialization, retry 0, exit code 0xC005, errno 11
  4 [main] xfce4-panel 5940 fork: child -1 - died waiting for
longjmp before initialization, retry 0, exit code 0xC005, errno 11
C)  Mousepad not installed?

Here's a copy of the xterm session messages after executing startxfce4
(i.e. option #1):

Winsock

2006-12-07 Thread Lucas Charron
I'm using C::B(http://www.codeblocks.org) over cygwin. I'm testing a
socket stream library of my own creation (using Winsock2). My server
is currently a simple HTTP server (sends out a blank html page saying
you are here). I can connect to my listening socket from within the
same process and transmit data to and from the server and client,
but, if I try to use a web-browser, I get This connection was denied
and the server application has no notification of anything even trying
to connect. I've checked all of windows' firewall settings (firewall is
disabled). I've also tryed binding to my external IP and to my loopback.
I've tryed binding to 0.0.0.0. Somewhere, my connection is being
rejected. I've checked the windows log files for dropped packets, and
nothing. I'm at my wits end.
All sockets functions return normally, there are no errors that windows
is reporting. This is either a Windows or Cygwin problem, but I can't
figure it out.

If anyone has any idea whats going on, please tell me.

Reading too few bytes

2006-03-21 Thread Paul J. Lucas
Here's a small test program:

#include fcntl.h
#include cstdlib
#include iostream

using namespace std;

int main() {
int fd = ::open( ESLF, O_RDONLY );
if ( fd == -1 ) {
cerr  could not open ESLF file  endl;
::exit( 1 );
}
char buf[ 64 ];
ssize_t bytesRead = ::read( fd, buf, sizeof( buf ) );
cout  read   bytesRead   bytes  endl;
::close( fd );
}

Here's the contents of a small biinary file ESLF (printed in hex bytes):

54 39 CA 1A 44

When I compile the program as:

g++ -o test test.cpp

and run it, it prints read 5 bytes as one would expect. When I compile
the program as:

g++ -mno-cygwin -o test test.cpp

and run it, it prints read 3 bytes. Why? How do I teg it to read all
5 bytes?

1. I install Cygwin.

Therefore, as far as I'm concerned, it's in Cygwin.

 So, if you are using _wfopen you stopped using Cygwin, then, too, possibly
 using -mno-cygwin.

As it happens, I am suppliying -mno-cygwin.

 I am trying to do what this person did INSERT URL HERE and I get an

fopen with UTF-8 chars in filenames

2006-03-14 Thread Paul J. Lucas
Is this known to work (or not work)? Apparently, it doesn't.

FYI: I'm writing JNI code. The strings passed from Java to C
are UTF-8.  A string containing a non-ASCII character, e.g., an
'e' with an accent, works fine with fopen() under Mac OS X. The
same JNI code under Cygwin fails.

Under *nix, I can use stat(2) of a directory to know when its

Under cygwin, this doesn't work because a directory's

Any recommendations as to how to monitor a directory to know
when its contents change under cygwin?

libtiff, libjpeg, cygwin compile problems

2005-12-04 Thread Paul J. Lucas
I'm trying to compile libtiff (using libjpeg) under cygwin and
I'm getting all kinds of compile-time errors. FYI: I need to
compile with the -mno-cygwin flag to gcc since my software as a
whole can't depend on the end-user having cygwin installed.

libjpeg (version 6b) compiles and works just fine by itself.
However, if I try to compile libtiff (version 3.7.4) using my
compiled libjpeg, I get lots of errors (a sample of which are
below).

I did find some information about a cygwin patch:

http://www.cygwin.com/ml/cygwin-announce/2000/msg00050.html

for libjpeg and applied the patch, but it didn't help.

How can I get libtiff to compile with libjpeg?

Rsync and Chinese characters problem

2005-11-20 Thread Robert Lucas
I'm trying to setup a series of windows computers to automatically
back themselves up to a remote rsync server. To accomplish this
I installed cygwin with cron, ssh, and rsync on all the systems.

However, a couple systems will not backup, looking at the logfiles
reveals comments like file has vanished: and reports of filenames
with multiple questionmarks as the filename. Right now I'm resorting
to scp'ing, which of course transmits all files every time. Is
there anyway to get rsync to work with a Chinese charcterset somehow?

Thanks,

windres VERSIONINFO not working

I'm trying to use gcc and windres to build a small native

Error in GetICMProfile() declaration

2005-11-11 Thread Paul J. Lucas
In /usr/include/w32api/wingdi.h, GetICMProfile() has its second argument
declared as a DWORD. According to:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/icm/icm_5aed.asp

it should be declared as an LPDWORD. Indeed, in order to call this
function correctly, I current have to do something like:

HDC dc = GetDC( NULL );
char path[ MAX_PATH ];
DWORD len = sizeof path;
GetICMProfile( dc, (DWORD)len, path );

So this really looks like a bug in the declaration.

 You don't have to use setup.exe to download, though. The packages are
 just regular files that are available via ftp, http, or rsync from a
 number of mirror sites. You can download them using whatever method you
 want, just keep the same directory structure as they are on the mirror
 site. Then run setup and choose install from local directory. To
 determine which packages you need, consult the setup.ini file or the
 cygwin web site. The minimum you will need is everything in category
 base.

Alright. I'll try that. Thanks. I was hoping there was someway around just
letting the setup.exe do everything and I didn't really want to get a CD or DVD
because usually you have to pay for those.

one Cygwin file

2005-04-29 Thread Lucas Raab
Are there any distributions of Cygwin with only one setup file containing all of
the packages?? Sorry if this sounds newbie-ish, but Google isn't getting me
anywhere. I'm a dial-up user and would rather use a download manager than stay
online for days.

TIA

Dev-C++ cygwin and wxwindows: i need a working configuration/sample

2004-02-24 Thread Laura Lucas
Hello!

Does anybody have a tutorial on how to configure Dev-c++ for use with cygwin
and wxWindows?

Dev-c++ comes with MingW by default, this works fine, but, whats the difference
between MingW and cygwin?

Thanks
Laura Lucas

no path set after installation on win2k

2003-07-30 Thread Lucas Gonze
Bug:
* Run a fresh install on Windows 2000 5.00.2195.
* Start a shell
* Do ls or any other standard command from /cygwin/bin.
* Command not found.
It's probably relevant that the runtime environment hasn't been
initialized -- there's no ~/.bashrc and no /etc/.bash_profile.  The
specific source of my download doesn't seem to be relevant, since I
tried a bunch of different ones. It doesn't seem to help to reinstall,
since the reinstall always says that there's nothing to install.

Off the top of my head, my guess is that the post-install setup isn't
happening. Any suggestions for a fix or workaround?

Thanks in advance.

- Lucas Gonze

Re: no path set after installation on win2k

2003-07-30 Thread Lucas Gonze
Thanks, Larry and Igor. Following up on your suggestions I was able to
find a workaround.

cygcheck (and all programs in /cygwin/bin) reported The dynamic link
library cygintl-2.dll could not be found in the specified path ...
Since this should be in the base install, I figured that it was corrupt.

The workaround was to nuke my /cygwin directory and old package
directory, then install *only* the default items. That was different
from before, where I installed everything in one shot, base at the same
time as chrome. After that I was able to get cygwin.bat to give me a
shell with a working ls, cygcheck, etc.

ImageMagik's convert.exe needs some cygwin dll's which appear to be missing from my install

2003-01-14 Thread Jeff Lucas
I'm trying to use ImageMagik's convert utility with
cygwin.  When I run ImageMagik's convert.exe within
cygwin, it complains of missing DLL's.

After running Dependency Walker, it looks like the
missing DLL's that convert.exe needs are:

CYGBZ2-1.DLL
CYGWIN1.DLL
CYGZ.DLL
EFSADU.DLL

I don't think it's a path issue cause I've searched
for these files under my c:\cygwin directory.

Attempting a re-install of cygwin (everything) which
looks like it could take a while.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Jeff

login problems and RSA authentication

2002-02-28 Thread Lucas Smith

hi

i am running win2k and cygwin but am haveing problems getting password
authentication to work it just doenst want to take the passwords for
anyuser though i know i have them right i know this info is a bit vague,
but i dont really know what else to say since i have a basically basically
out of the box setup as far as my users and passwords are concerned with bot
win2k and cygwin a relavant entry in my /etc/passwd file for user patrick
looks like this:
--snip--
patrick:unused_by_nt/2000/xp:1000:513:patrick,U-LUCY\patrick,S-1-5-21-329068152-813497703-1417001333-1000:/home/patrick:/bin/bash
--snip--
what i would really like actually would be to be able to have access to the
box through ssh by different users useing RSA authentication i have read
though that this doesnt work (however the post was almost a year n half
old) does any one know if this is possible now or if there are any hacks
with the same effect (haveing one password/identity for all computers on
the network while maintaning security)

thanks all,
lucas smith

sshd makeing noisy shells

2002-02-20 Thread Lucas Smith

i have gotten sshd running as a service on a win2k box, with RSA
authentication. however i have run into two problems.

1) i had to let sshd log itself in on the win2k using my normal user acount
to that the RSA authentication would work. why is this? is there a more
elegent work around? (like can i make a special acount for sshd and give
that acount what ever rights/properties it needs so that sshd can work
properly with RSA authentication)

2) when i log in from a linux (debian) box all is well and i get access but
then the strangness begins. what ever command i type the consol beeps,
though it does complete the command. and if i type ls for example i get
;/
the whole time (along with a beep) instead of the .. and . directories.
so if i do ls in a directory with just the file test.txt in it i recieve
-snip-
fragle@rock$ ls
text.txt
;/
snip-
whats really odd is that everything works fine if i use the ssh client on
the win2k box and ssh in localy.

valeo genti,
lucas
