2004-05-10 Thread Mark Bradshaw
The most recent version of GNU Whois (4.6.14) has been uploaded to
sourceware.=20

The whois client allows you to query a whois db (RFC 954). Using whois
you can get information on a domain name (whois redhat.com), IP
addresses (whois 1.2.3.4), and more. This tool is commonly used to
determine the owner of a domain or block of addresses, as well as get
their contact information.

[ANNOUNCEMENT] Updated Package: Whois 4.6.1

2002-12-27 Thread Mark Bradshaw
The most recent version of GNU Whois (4.6.1) has been uploaded to
sourceware.

The whois client allows you to query a whois db (RFC-812). Using whois you
can get information on a domain name (whois redhat.com), IP addresses (whois
1.2.3.4), and more. This tool is commonly used to determine the owner of a
domain or block of addresses, as well as get their contact information.

For fun see what happens when you ask for microsoft.com (whois
microsoft.com).

CHANGES

This version includes a few bug fixes for IPv6 handling. It also adds or
updates information on many TLD servers.

The latest stable version of GNU Whois can be found at:
http://www.gnu.org/directory/whois.html

The latest non-stable version can be found at:
http://www.linux.it/~md/software/

INSTALLATION

To update your installation, click on the "Install Cygwin now" link on the
http://cygwin.com/ web page. This downloads setup.exe to your system.
Then, run setup and answer all of the questions. To select the whois
package click on the "Net" category and click on the "skip" field until
4.6.1-1 is displayed.

Note that downloads aren't allowed from sources.redhat.com (aka cygwin.com)
due to bandwidth limitations. This means that you will need to find a
mirror which has this update.

In the US,
ftp://mirrors.rcn.net/mirrors/sources.redhat.com/cygwin/
is a reliable high bandwidth connection.

In Germany,
ftp://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/pc/gnuwin32/cygwin/mirrors/cygnus/ is
usually pretty good.

In the UK,
http://programming.ccp14.ac.uk/ftp-mirror/programming/cygwin/pub/cygwin/
is usually up-to-date within 48 hours.

If one of the above doesn't have the latest version of this package then you
can either wait for the site to be updated or find another mirror.

The setup.exe program will figure out what needs to be updated on your
system and will install newer packages automatically.

If you have questions or comments, please send them to the Cygwin mailing
list at: [EMAIL PROTECTED] . I would appreciate it if you would use this
mailing list rather than emailing me directly. This includes
ideas and comments about the setup utility or Cygwin in general.

the appropriate place.

This version no longer works with .org domains. Looks like 4.6.2 is out
on http://www.linux.it/~md/software/ .
Would it be possible to release this version, at your convenience?

TIA,

Re: Problems with installer

2002-11-15 Thread Mark Bradshaw
Here. Sorry if there is some confusion. Frankly, considering the number of
installs I think the confusion has been minimal. As a side note I've many
times been in conversation with a user and suggested that it might be time
to can the package as no longer necessary. EVERY time they vehemently
protest that the cygwin sshd install is too hard/doesn't work/whatever. The
bar to entry to a tight sshd install under the cygwin installer may be too
high for most newbies.

Maybe as a compromise I can start using standard cygwin directories. That
seemed confusing, and would definitely hose up some people that are used to
my current structure, but I'd be willing if it's really causing communal
heartburn.

openssh issue with UID's over 65535

2002-01-14 Thread Mark Bradshaw

I have an issue with openssh and UID's over 65535. Similar things were
discussed a bit back, but this is slightly different. Seems that sshd will
die when a user with a UID too high logs in. The root cause of this is
cygwin's use of an unsigned short for uid_t, instead of an integer. As the
UID goes through the ssh server, session.c calls get_last_login_time
(sshlogin.c) with an integer variable. When it hits get_last_login_time,
however, it's squashed into a uid_t, which is too small for it. The uid
changes and problems occur.

I'm guessing it wouldn't be too swift to just change the definition in
types.h. That oughta break lotsa stuff. Is there some clear path to
getting uid_t changed to an int, or is there a different/better fix for
this?

RE: no output from net.exe

2002-01-17 Thread Mark Bradshaw

One option for programs like this is to use ttyfier, by Egor Duda.

http://ns.logos-m.ru/~deo/ttyfier.html

Ttyfier has a few outstanding issues. I think Egor's moved on to bigger and
better things, but in its standard form it does what you need (maybe). I
have a patched version that expands ttyfier past it's 80x25 version. Email
me if you want it.

RE: no output from net.exe

2002-01-17 Thread Mark Bradshaw

Can't say I've seen the same, but my version of tfy is slightly different
than the one you're using. I've verified that I can do what you're
requesting via tfy. Of course, I should mention that I'm running cmd as my
far side shell. Even without tfy I can do what you're trying to do.

Make sure that your term is set to cygwin. Make sure that your window
(buffer size) is set to 80x25. Are you getting any errors? Did you
remember to drop the dll on the far machine? Are you sure your sshd server
is starting with CYGWIN=tty?

I can't speak as to the terminal issues you're experiencing using cygwin.
If you look through the archives you'll see that this is an issue that comes
around periodically. I'd suggest checking out the previous conversations to
find out the issues involved.

INVALID_FILE_ATTRIBUTES

2002-01-19 Thread Mark Bradshaw

Corinna,
On the 14th you made lots of changes to use INVALID_FILE_ATTRIBUTES, but I
don't think the definition made it into a header anywhere in the latest
cygwin release. At least, not that I can find. Might wanna check it.

Mark

K. I'll pull it from cvs then. Thanks.

RE: [RFD]: Changing datatypes for uid_t/gid_t

2002-01-21 Thread Mark Bradshaw

I'd vote for 32 bit to give maximum compatibility with other systems and old
software.

[ANNOUNCEMENT] Whois 4.6.7-1 available

2003-09-22 Thread Mark Bradshaw
The most recent version of GNU Whois (4.6.7) has been uploaded to
sourceware. This fixes the report that whois wasn't working on .org
domains.

The whois client allows you to query a whois db (RFC 954). Using whois you
can get information on a domain name (whois redhat.com), IP addresses (whois
1.2.3.4), and more. This tool is commonly used to determine the
owner of a domain or block of addresses, as well as get their contact
information.

SOURCE
==
The latest stable version of GNU Whois can be found at:
http://www.gnu.org/directory/whois.html

The latest non-stable version can be found at:
http://www.linux.it/~md/software/

INSTALLATION

To update your installation, click on the "Install Cygwin now" link on the
http://cygwin.com/ web page. This downloads setup.exe to your system. Then,
run setup and answer all of the questions. To select the whois
package click on the "Net" category and click on the "skip" field until
4.6.7-1 is displayed.

Note that downloads aren't allowed from sources.redhat.com (aka cygwin.com)
due to bandwidth limitations. This means that you will need to find a
mirror which has this update.

This includes ideas and
comments about the setup utility or Cygwin in general.

If you want to make a point or ask a question, the Cygwin mailing list is
the appropriate place.
