Cygwin error: 1 [main] bash 5856 e:\cygwin64\bin\bash.exe: *** fatal error - add_item ("\??\e:\cygwin64", "/", ...) failed, errno 1

2017-01-03 Thread Michael Goydich
RE: Cygwin error: 1 [main] bash 5856 e:\cygwin64\bin\bash.exe: ***
fatal error - add_item ("\??\e:\cygwin64", "/", ...) failed, errno 1

I am looking for help on the following issue where I get an error
message from the cygwin1.dll or from the bash.exe program. I am
hoping that the cygwin1.dll or the bash.exe have been, or can be,
fixed to alleviate this issue:

Invocations of various Shell Scripts, which are all trying to run the
Cygwin "bash.exe" program, at the same time frame produce the
following error for each of the invocations:

---
Cygwin error:
  1 [main] bash 5856 e:\cygwin64\bin\bash.exe: *** fatal error -
add_item ("\??\e:\cygwin64", "/", ...) failed, errno 1
---

Tivoli Workload Scheduler return code or exit status:
= Exit Status : 256
---

Do you know if anyone has been able to understand, and perhaps fix,
the error I have mentioned above. It appears to be related to
invoking more than 2 Cygwin "bash.exe" program instances at nearly the
same second (time). We have continuous issues with this and it can
cut 1 to 20 Tickets a week for us with the multitude of file transfers
we are doing on a daily basis.

I don't want to do any type of work-around to account for this
situation -- like calling my own "bash.exe" that throttles the
invocations of Cygwin's "bash.exe" program so that only one will be
run at a time – in other words, create a method to give each
invocation of Cygwin's "bash.exe" program separate from the other
invocations and therefore stagger them so that they do not try to run
at the exact same time (second).

See below to see an example of the Jobs that all failed near the same
time due to the supposed "bash.exe" concurrency issue.

I encountered this after I upgraded my workstation to either Windows 8
or Windows 8.1, I don't remember which.

The problem went away when I upgraded to the latest and greatest Cygwin.

Sounds like to me. If not, try
installing the rebase package, read its README, and follow the

I no longer distribute this version on my site. There are newer official
Cygwin setup snapshots that include that patch and more. Try one from

Those are harmless, expected on a new install with the setup version you
were using, and fixed in the newer snapshots.

This shows that you are not using direct internet connection. If you are
able to access web pages from your machine, try telling setup to "Use IE5
Settings" to connect.

If this is not your problem, please try a newer snapshot, and post the

Whatever problem you are seeing, I don't think anyone here is interested
in troubleshooting a version that is three years and two dozen releases
out of date. Numerous things have changed in those three years.

Please go back to whomever provided you with TinyOS and report the
problem there. We don't support ancient versions of cygwin here and
this is not a support forum for other distributions which use cygwin,
regardless.

Use a snapshot DLL. The fix will be in the next release.
Or, if you are willing to track this issue down in cvs and propose a
non-hackish patch, the cvs maintainer will consider it.

This was a close one with my "fork: Resource temporarily unavailable"
problem. The compiling of gcc 4.0.1 ran for a much longer time than
ever before it crashed. This time it crashed in a new manner:
e:\cygwin\bin\sh.exe (2976): *** CreateThread failed for sig - 0x0<0x0>, Win32 e

solution to cygwin error: Win32 error 487 bash: fork: Resource temporarily unavailable

2005-09-27 Thread john.wei

Hi, Tero,

I saw your post on the web. I have the same problem for the past two days.
Error is as follows:

After installing cygwin on Window2000, I have following error after opening
cygwin:

   1033 [main] bash 2164 fork_copy: linked dll data/bss pass 0 failed, 0x66D000.
.0x66D020, done 0, windows pid 1216, Win32 error 487
bash: fork: Resource temporarily unavailable

I tried many solutions with no help including:
1) make sure cygwin1.dll has only one copy on the machine.
2) install different versions, different selections
3) rebaseall in the bash. (bash is totally useless except for few commands).

Finally I got a solution which it works:

rebaseall: only ash processes are allowed during rebasing
Exit all Cygwin processes and stop all Cygwin services.
Execute ash from Start/Run... or a cmd or command window.
Execute '/bin/rebaseall' from ash.

Hope it could help others to solve the same problem.

Best wishes,

--john

You should be reporting problems with eclipse to the person/organization
which provided you with the package.

Eclipse is not part of the cygwin release.

The following from the Cygwin Python README may be pertinent:

Under 9X/Me, Cygwin Python is known to hang, freeze the system, or
page fault in some of the regression tests.

Hello,

We get a lot of emails from lilypond users running Windows 98 regarding
numerous "illegal operations" caused by cygwin programs. The problem
doesn't occur on Win2000 or XP.

Please let me know if you can help us. Is it a cygwin issue? Is it a
python issue? Is it an issue with lilypond build? I've attached one of
the reports.

Thank you very much.

Subject: LilyPond 2.2.2 test.ly failures on W98SE
--

Hello,

This problem was previously reported by Warren Stickney, but there seems
to
have been no resolution to date.

I've just completed download and test of LilyPond 2.2.2 on Windows 98 SE
(Second Edition).

When the test (test.ly) is run, it executes up to running:

command:/usr/bin/liliypond test.ly > test.log 2>&1

and then fails twice when executing PYTHON23 with the error message:

Python2
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
etc...

The details state that there was an invalid page fault in module
CYGICONV-2.DLL.

The program continues by executing "sh", "liliypond-bin" and then
PYTHON32
and again fails with the same symptoms.

Continuing on, the program fails a total of 8 times, but the PDF file is
generated and looks fine. The test.log doesn't show any failure
messages.

Other quick tests of simple input fail exactly the same way. This is
very
annoying and may be causing memory leaks too.

I've used cygcheck, and it reports python as 2.3.4-2.

I hesitate sending this report to the Python team, since they will want
to
know more about the whole process and at this stage I can't tell them
much.

I note that version 2.2.3 has just been released with no mention of
anything
related to this problem.

Please let me know what to do further.

Well-asked question, but remember to search the archives. In this case "glib

Can't compile glib with cygwin: Error 139 in make

2003-02-07 Thread Andres Moya
Hello.

I'm trying to compile glib 2.2.0 or 2.2.1 in Cygwin, and had some
problems. The last one is one that I cannot handle :-P

1) At first place, the compiler complained about not finding
libkernel32.a and libuser32.a. I fixed it by declaring the environment
variable LDFLAGS=-L/lib/w32api

2) Then, it gave an error in module "glib" about an undefined reference
to _WinMain@16. The Cygwin FAQ tells to try adding an empty main()
function. I added it to some source file of glib, and apparently worked.

Is there any other way to solve these two by changing Cygwin settings,
and without affecting glib?

3) In module gobject, the make stops with a strange error. Here is the
extracted output:

---
Making all in gobject
make[2]: Entering directory `/home/andres/glib-2.2.0-linux/gobject'

[...some stuff...]

creating glib-genmarshal.exe
echo "#ifndef __G_MARSHAL_H__" > xgen-gmh \
&& echo "#define __G_MARSHAL_H__" >> xgen-gmh \
&& ./glib-genmarshal --nostdinc --prefix=g_cclosure_marshal
./gmarshal.list --header >> xgen-gmh \
&& echo "#endif /* __G_MARSHAL_H__ */" >> xgen-gmh \
&& (cmp -s xgen-gmh ./gmarshal.h || cp xgen-gmh ./gmarshal.h) \
&& rm -f xgen-gmh xgen-gmh~ \
&& echo timestamp > stamp-gmarshal.h
make[2]: *** [stamp-gmarshal.h] Error 139
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/andres/glib-2.2.0-linux/gobject'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/andres/glib-2.2.0-linux'
make: *** [all-recursive-am] Error 2
---

The Error 139 is caused by the executable ./glib-genmarshal doing a core
dump (I have executed it by hand, and also does the core dump).

Actually, glib-genmarshal is a generated script, that in turn executes
./.libs/lt-glib-genmarshal.exe.exe (with two ".exe") :-?. This
executable has been compiled from the source by the same makefile.

What can I do to continue investigating?

I attach the output of cygcheck -s -v -r. I'm executing Windows XP
inside a vmware box, on Linux Mandrake 9.0.

Check /etc/passwd for the user you are on this machine. It would appear
that the home directory listed there is '/'. I'm not sure why. If rerunning
mkpasswd -l >/etc/passwd and mkdroup -l >/etc/group doesn't fix this (see
the -d flag if you need domain users), then just edit the path to point
somewhere else. // represents a partial UNC path which isn't
what you want.

Or, maybe try and solve the direct problem shown in the error message?
I.e., why your home dir is / ?

Perhaps you should rebuild your /etc/passwd and /etc/group.

mkpasswd -l > /etc/passwd
mkgroup -l > /etc/group

assuming you aren't on a Windows Domain.

gpg on cygwin error

2002-12-30 Thread CSegers
Hello,

I have installed the cygwin gpg package, and have tried to import the KEYS
from Apache as follows:

$ gpg --import KEYS
gpg: fatal: //.gnupg: cant't create dircetory: No such file or directory
secmem usage: 0/0 bytes in 0/0 blocks of pool 0/16384

This from the dir with Apache download files, including KEYS file. Also
tried:

$ gpg --import /usr/downloads/KEYS

with the same results. Is this a cygwin problem maybe? Should I try to
conpile gpg instead of using the cygwin package?

Thanks for your help,
Carl

Now I am happy and can work on the Linux Server with KDE3 and German
Keyboard settings via kdm.
This is a planed solution for some scientists, which need an graphical
access from windows 2000 Laptops to a Linux-cluster with Splus and other
applications.

Heiner,

The solution is for you to ask this question at [EMAIL PROTECTED],
where I have forwarded this email.

It sounds like typical memory overwrite problems. I have never
seen that error show up in any other application. I thought I had actually
turned off assertions in the released version of cygwin. Guess I was
mistaken.

There are only two popular users of vfork that I'm aware of: sh and make.
It's possible that their needs are simple enough that they're not
triggering a cygwin bug that kde is triggering. It's also possible that
kde is just doing a plain old fashioned overwriting of memory.

It should be fairly simple to figure out what's stomping on the memory
but it will have to (obviously?) be done by someone who has kde and
feels up to debugging the cygwin DLL. Just watching what happens to
cygheap->fdtab.fds_on_hold during a vfork should pinpoint it pretty
quickly.

It's coming from vfork. Something's stomping on memory that is supposed
to hold a copy of the fd table.

2002-04-05 Thread Harold Hunt

Oh yeah, by "sketchy" I meant that after it happens a few times and I switch
the focus away from Cygwin/XFree86 two things happen:

1) Cygwin/XFree86 freezes solid.

2) The Windows mouse cursor disappears and the Windows mouse doesn't work
until I reboot. The mouse doesn't even start to work again when you press
Ctrl+Alt+Del and get the Windows Security box that usually works perfectly
even when programs have crashed.

Yeah... that's pretty sketchy.

Cygwin/XFree86 logged into KDE3 causes strange Cygwin error

2002-04-05 Thread Harold Hunt

This is the first time I have every seen anything like this in
Cygwin/XFree86.

I just installed KDE3 on my Linux box and when I login via XDMCP and run
Konsole I get this error message in Windows:

---
Error
---
Failed assertion
fds_on_hold != NULL
at line 643 of file
/cygnus/netrel/src/cygwin-1.3.10-1/winsup/cygwin/dtable.cc
---
OK
---

So far this has happened only when I launch Konsole. Cygwin/XFree86 doesn't
crash when this happens, but things seem to get sketchy after it happens a
few times.

Any ideas?
