If mintty could be able to support fallback fonts, it would be favourite.

It's wonderfull. Both Courier New and DejaVu works. I tried DejaVu
Sans Mono. But it's a little longer in height than Lucida Console.

My 1920*1080 resolution screen, maximize window.
DejaVu Sans Mono 138*38
Lucida Console 135*43

It takes time to adapt.

mintty just display selected fornt code points.
If your chosen font doesn't have the respective code points... go figure.

Try http://dejavu-fonts.org/wiki/index.php?title=Download
I prefer it over many terminal fonts available.

The problem may be with Lucida Console. Try Courier New.

I pasted the text into MS Word and changed the font for the entire line
to Lucida Console. Looking at the font character by character, almost
all the characters had been switched to Courier New. Only one was
Lucida Console. Interesting, several did say what font they were.

I interpret that as meaning that when Lucida Console doesn't have a
glyph, Word substitutes Courier New.

I hope that helps,

The mail list or gmail change my phonetic alphabet to something strange.
copy it from http://www.bing.com/dict/search?q=diverge

paste it into notpad.exe, it display very well. And mintty cannot.

What are your LANG, LANGUAGE, LC_* variables? I see boxes when I set
LANG="en_US", but not when I set LANG="en_US.UTF-8" or empty LANG.

Is it possible to display English phonetic alphabet in Mintty?

2015-04-20 Thread Rexdf
I have a dictionary in cygwin. It cannot display the phonetic alphabet well.

For example, If you copy the following line and paste into
mintty, you'll find the second ə is display as a box. ( My font is
Lucida Console)

 phonetic [fəu'netik]

There are some other phonetic alphabets which can not be displayed. The
following line display well in notpad.exe but box in mintty.

  t͡ʃ d͡ʒ ʃ ʒ ʔ ə ɪ̈ ʊ̈ ɵ ɚ ɒ ɒ ɒ ɔ ɔ ə ɨ ɪ ʌ ɛ ɜ ɘ œ̈ ɜ ø̞̈ ə ɚ ɚ ə
