Re: Setup.exe hangs forever...

2004-10-27 Thread Gabriel
More information:

Every day the hanging place changes, today it hangs while trying to install
xpdf, in particular: /etc/postinstall/xpdf.sh, but this has changed over the
days.

Brand new installation on brand new XP systems with nothing else but SP2 and
all the Windows Update patches.

Any suggestions?

Thanks again,

Gabriel

Even more details:

I noticed that if I install Cygwin with the default packages everything works
fine. But if I do an installation of Cygwin, from scratch (new system, new
Windows XP SP2) and try to install _everything_ by clicking on "Default" and
changing it to "Install" then setup.exe hangs forever.

This means that if I install Cygwin with the defaults _and then_ I install the
complete package set then it works fine but if I try to install _everything_
from scratch it hangs.

Has anybody found this problem? Any suggestions?

Thanks again,

Gabriel

Do you install cygwin and GNOME at the same time?
I mean, do you install something from cygnome.sourceforge.net?

If so, you'd better move cygnome directory out of download directory,
and then, install cygwin first. After that, you can move cygnome back
and install again.

If not, forget what I'm talking. :-)

I've noted this in the setup.exe bugtracker:
http://sources.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=490
I will attempt to investigate when I have a second machine available to me.
(That means mid-December)
Max.

Really forever or just an extraordinary amount of time?
Did you watch the process with taskman or better procexp? Is it busy or
doing nothing?

I experience similar long waits when I unintentionally click (or cmdline
select) on "Install from Local Directory" and the "Local Package
Directory" has some amount of mirrored directories beneath. It recurses
then into all these dirs and tries gather all setup.hint's and tar.bz2
it can find, which lasts about 10 minutes or so.

I'd like to fix that to accept or the [Break] button.
Max: I will add this to the tracker soon.
