Re: FW: Vista and CYGWIN telnet
Hello, I'm a newbie here. Have: Cygwin: latest 1.7.1-1 packages (as for today) OS: W2k Experiencing same regression: telnetd starting through inetd, but no authentication prompt (login not called?) By regression I mean behavior change since upgrading my Cygwin version 1.5 (most probably). Several mates of mine here did upgrade too and noone has telnet working, all using SSH instead. Some have XP and one on Vista can't configure FTP either. Tried debugging telnetd using "--authmode" and "--debug" options and looking into syslogd messages (wrong way?) - no useful info obtained. I think that's enough - respond if you anyway want the cygcheck output. Could you provide some very vague solution ETA if possible? Thanks and regards: Tomasz Pona Embedded C++test Parasoft S.A. Gareth Payne wrote: > Output attached. > > Thank you for looking. Well, I was hoping it was something simple, like you didn't have the login package installed. But...that's not it. I can reproduce your problem; it looks like there's trouble with the inetutils package. I tried taking inetd out of the loop and using the xinetd superserver to launch telnetd instead, but xinetd is in even worse shape. Now, this stuff DID all work back in June '09, but it appears something has changed somewhere, now that 1.7.1 has been released. Speaking of which, my plan was to port inetutils-1.6 "cleanly" to cygwin-1.7 (removing any cruft related to win9x and cygwin-1.5). Naturally, it's been so long that now inetutils-1.7 is available -- so that's what I'll work on instead. Unfortunately, this may take a while, and until I do that, it seems as though the inet servers (inetd, telnetd, ftpd) are broken on cygwin-1.7 (the problem MAY be limited to Vista; I haven't tried on <=XP). Sorry about that. -- Chuck -- Problem reports: http://cygwin.com/problems.html FAQ: http://cygwin.com/faq/ Documentation: http://cygwin.com/docs.html Unsubscribe info: http://cygwin.com/ml/#unsubscribe-simple

FW: Vista and CYGWIN telnet
Hi, Main documentation was from the inetutils.readme. Using tcpd.exe as the telnet executable. I ran ssh-host-config first, which created the privileged user (cyg_server) with appropriate windows permissions. Then I ran iu-config to set up inetd. In the messages log I see: Jan 8 21:02:32 nb-slogpayne telnetd: PID 396: connect from 127.0.0.1 (127.0.0.1 ) Jan 8 21:04:06 nb-slogpayne telnetd: PID 5688: connect from 127.0.0.1 (127.0.0. Jan 8 21:12:03 nb-slogpayne telnetd: PID 6312: connect from 192.168.1.66 (192.1 68.1.66) Definitely have a telnet connection, unfortunately no login prompt appears. Screen just echo's what i type. Complete stumped on this. Kind Regards Gareth -Original Message- From: cygwin-ow...@cygwin.com [mailto:cygwin-ow...@cygwin.com] On Behalf Of DePriest, Jason R.
