I don't know how you started XWin but setting DISPLAY explicitly should work,
i.e. in a bash terminal, DISPLAY=132.147.177.33:0 xwin -query 132.147.160.33

or the equivalent changing the startx or startxwin.sh scripts.

Problem with cygfreetype-6.dll

2006-02-27 Thread Dick Jay

I recently installed cygwin 2.510.2.2 (that's the version displayed by
the setup program) including the X11 stuff. I'm not running a cygwin
server on my windows machine (I have a different server), but I need to
use several of the X client apps displaying on a remote system. However,
whenever I run any X client, I get a message box telling me that the
application failed to start because cygfreetype-6.dll was not found.
I've searched and found that file as part of package libfreetype, but
that's not one of the packages that the setup program lists.

What should I do to install this file?

Thanks for your attention to (what I hope is) a simple issue.

I'm redirecting this to the cygwin-xfree list. Please make sure that
your mail client respects the Reply-To: address.

I have the same problem with uic: it is producing broken code (it
looks as if half of the file is simply missing)

See my post to the cygwin list:
http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2006-02/msg00472.html

Is there any solution yet? I'm desparate. Is there any way to undo the
qt3 update with the cygwin installer?

AFAIK the problem is with cygwin-1.5.19. You could downgrade cygwin to
1.5.18, but you will also need to downgrade a number of other packages,
the current versions of which depend on new features in 1.5.19.

Besides that, you could help track down the problem in cygwin itself, so
that we have a chance in getting this fixed for 1.5.20.

Windows programs in Cygwin/X ?

2006-02-27 Thread Doug Bohl
After much turmoil, I've managed to get a number of window managers
running in Cygwin/X. What I'm wondering is this: Is it at all
possible to allow my windows programs to be managed by my Cygwin/X
window manager? Presently, if I'm in -fullscreen mode and I'm running
some X programs, I'd have to alt+tab out of X and into explorer.

If this isn't possible, what would I have to do to make it possible?
Maybe write an X program to 'trap' the window of a Windows program
into an invisible X window. Or something like that.
