Hello,

Thanks a lot for this release, it fixes my openGL problem. For
curiosity, where can I find a diff between the two build to see what
have been corrected ?

Best regards and thanks a lot,

Thanks for the info! I finally got it working :)

I had to change the server from which I was fetching stuff to see the
latest version. Also I had a shortcut to an outdated startxwin.bat. It
looks like the new location of startxwin.bat is /usr/bin/startxwin.bat
whereas it was previously /usr/X11R6/bin/startxwin.bat.

Hmm... you mean like it says here [1] in the FAQ, which you have read? :)

Regarding the problems I have flagged in [1], the first (related to the

I'm a little bit confused what problems remain, so I'll tell you my results
and you can tell me if you agree

   hsimple.C test

1.5.3-3 +bsserver segfault
1.5.3-4 +bsok (redrawing of area under menus is messed up)
1.5.3-4ok

   geom/shapes.C test

1.5.3-3 +bsroot segfault
1.5.3-4 +bsroot segfault
1.5.3-4root segfault
fixed by adding XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS

For the second (that related to OpenGL applications), I have found the
workaround described here [2].

Now, if

nedit needs rebuilding with a patch to work around an issue in lesstif
with

the latest X server.

how can I do the same for ROOT? Which is that patch? or what else?

If you follow the chain of emails back, they lead to

http://sources.gentoo.org/viewcvs.py/*checkout*/gentoo-x86/app-editors/nedit/files/nedit-5.5-argbvisuals.patch

I'm not 100% convinced this is the core issue there, you might like to ask the
ROOT developers if it can handle the server reporting visuals with alpha

"set syntax=on" should be "syntax on" which is probably why you saw no
syntax highlighting. The "set syntax=" just sets the file type. Is
there anything else you want me to try? Build xterm from source maybe
with different configure options? Thanks for your help Thomas.

well, building xterm without the tcap-query option should immediately
solve the problem...

I don't know if vim has been using this feature of xterm with cygwin -
it may be that there's some unexpected time-delay or buffer-problem.

In my case (hsimple.C test)

1.5.3-4 +bsGIVES server segfault

Are you sure you have started 1.5.3-4 with '+bs'?

Indeed I have verified that '1.5.3-4 +bs' works fine in redrawing the
overlapped area (I have done this with another application, PAW from
CERNLIB).

Perhaps you have just started 1.5.3-4 thinking you have added +bs, but
really omitting it.

May you retry?

fonts and xterm

2008-11-25 Thread JP de Vooght
Hello all,

I have recently updated to the newest XWin and have noticed the following on
my Vista laptop:

- whenever I open an xterm as indicated below, the scrollbar does not work
and the window is not rendered at the bottom and on the right where small
bands reveal the background; is this an xterm problem that will be fixed? Or
some omission on my part?

xterm -sb -rightbar -fg white -bg black -e /bin/bash --login -i

- I can't seem to fix the problem with finding Times-Roman for applications
such as graphviz which I had resolved previously - where is Times-Roman now?

TIA

- JP

xmgrace and xmhtml hang in XR7

2008-11-25 Thread Rodrigo Medina
Hi,
I am updating to XR7. I have problems with xmgrace and xmhtml.
Both programs behave similarly, the program runs consuming
50% of the CPU time, but the window never appears.
The process cannot be stopped with kill -9

$ ps
...
 2668 13612 33800 1008 12:08:03 /usr/bin/XWin
 261638442616 31242 1008 12:17:55 /usr/bin/xmgrace

$ kill -9 2616
bash: kill: (2616) - Resource temporarily unavailable

I had to use the task manager in order to stop the process.
Some outputs of cygcheck and the XWin.0.log file are attached.

I have set
export KEYSYMDB=/usr/share/X11/XKeysymDB
export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1

I have run rebaseall, but nothing changes.

I had no problems with other X programs, from the cygwin distribution
or my own programs.

I hope that someone has some solution.
Thanks to all the team for the extraordinary work done with the XR7
transition.

bye
RM

There's no obvious way to turn it off, but it can be turned off...

vim --cmd 'set t_RV='

for a single vim session, or

echo 'set t_RV=' >>~/.vimrc

for all vim sessions. Not sure why it would be breaking, though...
and I don't presently have a cygwin installation to test this

Adding that to my .vimrc worked, the syntax is back to normal. I don't
fully understand what the underlying bug is but at least i can read my

I'll upload a new XmHTML in a minute which will fix both issues.

[Packagin error] Print.h from libXm-devel-0.95.0-2 includes no longer available header file /usr/include/X11/extensions/Print.h

2008-11-25 Thread Dr. Volker Zell
Hi

In the process of rebuilding XmHTML against latest X11R7.4 I discovered
that one of the test applications cannot be build anymore:

gcc -g -funroll-loops -pipe -ansi -DNDEBUG -DHAVE_STRINGS_H -D_GNU_SOURCE
-DHAVE_REGEX_H -DHAVE_LIBJPEG -DHAVE_LIBPNG -DHAVE_LIBZ -Dlint -Dproduction
-DMotif -I. -I../include -I../include/common -I../../include
-I../../include/common -I../../include/XmHTML -I/usr/X11R6/include -c
example_4.c
In file included from /usr/include/Xm/XmAll.h:79,
 from example_4.c:78:
/usr/include/Xm/Print.h:28:34: X11/extensions/Print.h: No such file or directory
In file included from /usr/include/Xm/XmAll.h:79,
 from example_4.c:78:
/usr/include/Xm/Print.h:40: error: parse error before "XPContext"
/usr/include/Xm/Print.h:43: error: parse error before '}' token
/usr/include/Xm/Print.h:61: error: parse error before "XPFinishProc"
make[1]: *** [example_4.o] Error 1

It seems that /usr/include/X11/extensions/Print.h is no longer available
but it is still referenced from /usr/include/Xm/Print.h from latest
libXm-devel-0.95.0-2.

Ciao
  Volker
