I found that reverting to the previous build (possible, though irritatingly difficult, using the setup tool) solves the problems. I'm hoping that cygwin/xorg 7 might solve the problem whenever it appears. I use XDMCP to connect to a Gnome server. Everything worked ok, but after less than 1 minute of using some applications, the system was becoming non-responsive, with abnormal delays of 1 or 2 seconds, just by moving the mouse in the menus. I've just reverted to the old package xorg-x11-win 6.8.2.0-4 as you suggested, and it fixed the problem ! Thank you for the solution.
