The U.S. pharmaceutical giant Moderna has finalised arrangements with
the Australian and Victorian governments to build the world’s first
mRNA production facility located on a university campus.

The construction at Melbourne’s Monash University is expected to
commence at the end of 2022, with production anticipated to begin by
the end of 2024.

The company said that the facility is expected to produce up to 100
million mRNA respiratory vaccine doses annually, targeting respiratory
viruses, including COVID-19, seasonal influenza, respiratory syncytial
virus, “and other potential respiratory viruses, pending licensure.”

“We look forward to being a part of the Monash Clayton precinct and
contributing to the R ecosystem in Melbourne and across Australia,”
Moderna General Manager Michael Azrak said in a statement on Aug. 15.

The prime minister of Australia and the premier of Victoria said that
the plan for the ten-year partnership to create a “homegrown” mRNA
ecosystem has been completed.

It is designed to reduce Australia’s dependence on imported mRNA
vaccines, vulnerability to supply disruptions, and delays, according
to the Australian ministers.

Premier of Victoria Daniel Andrews said that this agreement means that
Australia will be home to Moderna’s only mRNA manufacturing centre in
the Southern Hemisphere.

“We’re not wasting a second in making sure we have access to the
vaccines we need to keep Victorians safe,” Andrews said.
Vaccine Development Rushed

However, a professor of medicine at Australia’s Flinders University
has said that, in his opinion, the mRNA development was rushed, and
that this may have contributed to issues with adverse reactions.

“I think there was early leadership by Oxford University [AstraZeneca]
with the adenovirus viral vector being put into human trials very
quickly, you saw that similarly with Moderna and its mRNA approach,”
Nikolai Petrovsky told The Epoch Times previously.

“This created a ‘follow the leader’-type mentality with
(manufacturers) Sputnik and Johnson and Johnson copying the Oxford
approach and Pfizer following Moderna with the mRNA approach.”

Last year, the Victorian government made a significant $50 million
(US$35 million) investment to establish “mRNA Victoria,” an initiative
responsible for leading the mRNA vaccine industry for future
generations.

As part of this initiative, they granted Monash University $5.4
million to create the mRNA production facility on its campus.

Feds Cut Water Deliveries To Arizona And Nevada, May Impact Food Production

Arizona and Nevada face deeper cuts on the amount of water they can
draw from the drought-stricken Colorado River, the Interior
Department's Bureau of Reclamation said Tuesday.

The agency responsible for managing water and power in the western US
said "urgent action" is needed as water levels in the Colorado River's
two largest reservoirs -- Lake Mead and Lake Powell -- continue to
drop. Under the new conservation efforts, 21% of Arizona's annual
water allocation from the river system will be reduced in 2023.

Nevada will see 8% of water deliveries reduced, and Mexico's share
will be cut by 7%. California will be spared from the new measures
that begin next year.

The reductions could be the beginning of a water crisis for the 40
million Americans in seven states (Colorado, New Mexico, Utah,
Wyoming, Arizona, California, and Nevada) that heavily rely on the
river for freshwater and power.

The move comes as the western US faces the worst megadrought in 1,200
years that has decreased levels in Lake Mead, the largest reservoir in
the US, to lows not seen in eight decades.

Lake Powell, meanwhile, could face hydropower production disruptions
as soon as next year, The Guardian said.

"Every sector in every state has a responsibility to ensure that
water is used with maximum efficiency. To avoid a catastrophic
collapse of the Colorado river system and a future of uncertainty and
conflict, water use in the basin must be reduced," said Tanya
Trujillo, assistant secretary of the Interior Department for water and
science.

In Arizona, the cuts will impact water flow to farmland responsible
for 90% of US lettuce production.

Farmers in Arizona, who provide more than 90% of the US's leafy
greens each November through March, have already borne the brunt of
prior cuts, along with those who make a living from the state's $23.3
billion agriculture industry. Pinal County, between Phoenix and
Tucson, is likely to be hit especially hard since the area known for
cotton and livestock has already seen about half its farmland go idle
due to prior water reductions. - Bloomberg

Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Camille Calimlim Touton summed up
the situation along the Colorado River:

"The system is approaching a tipping point and without action, we
can't protect the system and the millions of Americans who rely on
this critical resource."

Faculty at the University of California–Los Angeles (UCLA) School of
Law have created a database to identify and record efforts to block
critical race theory (CRT) being taught in schools across the country.

The database, called the CRT Forward Tracking Project, allows users to
“track attacks on critical race theory” and filter the information as
part of an effort to “support anti-racist education, training and
research,” according to the school.

The project was created by UCLA’s Critical Race Studies Program,
founded in 2000 as the first law school program in the nation
dedicated to critical race theory.

CRT, according to the school, is “the study of systemic racism in law,
policy and society,” and suggests efforts need to be made to fix these
alleged injustices.

Meanwhile, critics say CRT pushes a controversial worldview related to
Marxism that analyzes all aspects of life through a racial lens
instead of through the concept of class struggle.

UCLA Law announced earlier this month it would track anti-CRT activity
through the database at all levels of government across the nation.

“The project was created to help people understand the breadth of the
attacks on the ability to speak truthfully about race and racism
through the campaigns against CRT,” said Taifha Natalee Alexander,
project director of CRT Forward, in a statement.

The database analyzes these efforts to determine where the activity is
happening and how opponents are taking action, such as protesting
curriculum at the school board level.

It also includes the type of CRT content being restricted, such as a
course being taught at a public school, as well as the institution or
group being targeted and enforcement mechanisms being used to regulate
the content.

For example, the Placentia-Yorba Linda School Board voted to ban the
teaching of CRT in classrooms this past April, ending months of debate
in the Orange County district.

Prior to the narrow 3-2 vote, supporters for the ban asserted CRT is a
divisive ideology that pushes a political narrative. Other trustees at
the April 5 school board meeting, however, claimed such efforts
amounted to censorship, according to public comments.

The UCLA program claims that many of those who are against these
concepts being taught in K-12 schools are using the term CRT
“incorrectly,” and have “affected plans to include ethnic studies more
broadly for students before they get to college.”

In 2021, California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed legislation making ethnic
studies a statewide requirement for high school graduation starting in
the 2029–30 school year, amid debate among parents and teachers about
whether ethnic studies curriculum includes elements of CRT.
Tracking Results

As of Aug. 2, the UCLA database has screened nearly 24,000 media
articles and identified 479 instances of anti-CRT activity since
August 2021.

The database team found this activity is “much more pervasive and
extensive than generally reported,” according to the school, with such
policies either proposed or enacted in 49 states.

The project also found that most anti-CRT proposals have occurred in
Florida, Virginia, Missouri, and the U.S. Congress, while local school
board measures make up more than 20 percent of the activity in the
database.

Most such measures at the school board level have been introduced in
California, North Carolina, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, with
Californians enacting five out of the eight proposed measures.

Climate science has been so suffocated by ideological zealotry it's
becoming difficult just to find normal objective analysis these days.
Any piece of data that contradicts the man-made climate change
narrative is surrounding by a spin machine that either dismisses the
information or obscures it in a deluge of global warming propaganda,
inoculating the reader well before they get a chance to digest the
news that maybe climate change is not all it's cracked up to be.

Whenever high temperatures are reported in the US or Europe the news
is hyperinflated into wild theories of climate Apocalypse by the
media, but weather history suggests that the panic is fabricated
rather than justified. In fact, any hot weather event you can pick
out in recent years is likely overshadowed by a much worse event
decades or centuries before “man-made carbon pollution” was ever a
thing.

For example, the media is frantic over the current drought and “record
temps” in Europe this summer, warning that it could become the “worst
drought” in 500 years. Of course, this claim opens the door to a
question that climate scientists and propagandists don't want to
answer: What happened 500 years ago?

A similar level of global warming hysteria was present during a heat
wave in Europe in 2003, as well as in 2018. The few climate
scientists still not bought and paid for by governments and the UN
have had to point out that these droughts are nothing compared to the
living hell that was the drought of 1540. This event is often termed
a “mega-drought” because the region suffered historically hot temps
while receiving almost no rain for a year.

Temperatures that year averaged 5°C to 7° C above average
temperatures in Europe in the 20th century. In US terms, that means
daily summer temps of around 104° F. Hundreds of historic accounts
written at the time describe around half a million deaths, along with
vast wildfires and a winter in Italy that “felt like July.” Keep in
mind that carbon levels in Europe in 1540 were 30% LOWER than they are
today, yet, the region suffered perhaps the worst warming event in its
recorded history.

Today's climate data is based on records held by the NOAA and other
institutions, and these records only go back to 1880. So, whenever
you hear the mainstream media rant about record temperatures, they are
using a tiny sliver of global weather history going back a little over
a century. Any honest scientist in this field will tell you that the
Earth's climate record is vast compared to the limited data used by
global warming ideologues, and the majority of destructive weather
crises have occurred well before man-made carbon emissions.

It certainly wasn't carbon pollution from cars, farming and industry
that caused the crisis in 1540.

Try doing any research on the 1540 event and you will be buried in a
pile of mainstream articles that acknowledge the disaster but then try
to use it as an example of why we must comply with carbon restrictions
and climate authoritarianism in 2022. They say “Look at what happened
to Europe in 1540. You don't want that to happen again, do you?”

Of course, humanity had no say or control over the weather in 1540,
just as we have no say or control over the weather today. There was
no carbon based global warming back then, and there is no carbon based
global warming now.

Scientists still have no idea what caused many of the warming events
of the past including the crisis of 1540, so why should we have blind
faith in their claims that carbon is the cause of warming in recent
years? In fact, the NOAA and other climate research institutions
still offer no concrete proof of a relationship between carbon
emissions and rising temperatures. Their argument is that they have
excluded all other possible causes, leaving only carbon as the
remainder. This is not science, this is haphazard guesswork.

If there was ever a field that defies the logic, reason and analysis
commonly associated with the scientific method, it is climate science.

Set aside the fact that billions of dollars in funding are paid out to
climate scientists every year, but only those scientists that operate
from the assumption that climate change is caused by human beings.
That is to say, there are numerous incentives for scientists to
discount other causes for global warming. They are not scientists,
they are paid political activists. Luckily, temperatures are not that
high. The NOAA's own data shows that the average temperature of the
Earth has risen less than 1°C in the past century. This is

Though America's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) took
a turn toward Covid rationality last week, "Zero-Covid" madness is
still raging in China.

Just ask the poor people who were at a Shanghai Ikea on Saturday
evening. One minute they're innocently eyeing furniture and
appliances, the next they're being told they can't leave the store or
go home.

An announcement was made over the store's public address system,
notifying shoppers the store had been ordered to close and to prevent
anyone from leaving, due to contact tracing. Shocked by suddenly being
condemned to quarantine, many opted to make a run for it.

Video captured a dystopian scene in which guards attempt to close
doors on the escapees, some of whom are screaming in their panic. The
guards were overpowered, but it's not clear what happened to the
fleeing shoppers next.

Those who were trapped in the store had to first linger there for four
hours -- from 8pm til midnight -- before being transported to
quarantine hotels, reports Bloomberg. Then they faced quarantine for
two days followed by five days of monitoring.

The mass-detention was triggered merely because a close contact of a
six-year-old boy who tested positive had visited the store. It's not
clear if that individual was in the store at the time. What's more,
the 6-year old wasn't even symptomatic.

While the video of the incident is dramatic, it's hardly the first
such episode, as Chinese citizens continue to live in a dark game of
contact-tracing roulette. Others have been suddenly detained while
working in offices, exercising at gyms or dining in restaurants.

Of China's major cities, Shanghai has been hit hardest. Between March
10 and July 31 of this year alone, the city endured 92 days of full or
partial lockdown. This spring, it got to the point where
apartment-dwellers were screaming in unison from their balconies:

Last week, the CDC updated its guidelines, with one of the
bureaucracy's epidemiologists saying "we know that Covid-19 is here to
stay." Two proclamations were particularly welcome, even if they were
terribly overdue:

"It's no longer recommended to screen those without symptoms."
"Unvaccinated people now have the same guidance as vaccinated people."

In China, however, there's no sign that the Zero-Covid regime will be
relaxed anytime soon, despite mounting damage to China's economy, and
despite growing Chinese discontent.

A senior White House climate advisor has been sanctioned by the
National Academy of Sciences for violating its ethics policies.

Axios reports that Jane Lubchenco, the deputy director for climate and
environment at the White House Office of Science and Technology
Policy, has been pulled up by the NAS for editing a paper later found
to contain technical errors, as well as having worked with the
scientists involved in it, one of which turned out to be her
brother-in law.

Lubchenco was found to have violated NAS Code of Conduct Section 3,
which states that “NAS members shall avoid those detrimental research
practices that are clear violations of the fundamental tenets of
research.”

The section also notes “Members should be fair and objective peer
reviewers, maintain confidentiality when requested, promptly move to
correct the literature when errors in their own work are detected,
include all deserving authors on publications, and give appropriate
credit to prior work in citations.”

Axios notes that Lubchenco commented “I accept these sanctions for my
error in judgment in editing a paper authored by some of my research
collaborators — an error for which I have publicly stated my regret.”

The report also notes that GOP Representatives Frank Lucas of
Oklahoma, Stephanie Bice of Oklahoma and Jay Obernolte of California
wrote an open letter in February calling for the White House to ”
consider whether Dr. Lubchenco’s leading role in the Administration’s
scientific integrity efforts undermines public confidence in future
policy decisions.”

The Republicans also noted that “As an editor at the Proceedings of
the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), Dr. Lubchenco demonstrated a
clear disregard for rules meant to prevent conflicts of interest in
publishing peer-reviewed studies.”



“Now, Dr. Lubchenco is playing a leading role in developing and
overseeing this Administration’s best practices for scientific
integrity. Her violation of one of the core tenets of scientific
integrity makes her current leadership role very troubling,” the GOP
reps. added.

After more than two years of missteps and backpedaling over Covid-19
guidance that had a profound effect on Americans' lives, the Centers
for Disease Control (CDC) announced on Wednesday that the agency would
undergo a complete overhaul - and will revamp everything from its
operations to its culture after failing to meet expectations during
the pandemic, Bloomberg reports.

Director Rochelle Walensky began telling CDC’s staff Wednesday
that the changes are aimed at replacing the agency’s insular, academic
culture with one that’s quicker to respond to emergencies. That will
mean more rapidly turning research into health recommendations,
working better with other parts of government and improving how the
CDC communicates with the public. -Bloomberg

"For 75 years, CDC and public health have been preparing for Covid-19,
and in our big moment, our performance did not reliably meet
expectations," said Director Rochelle Walensky. "I want us all to do
better and it starts with CDC leading the way.  My goal is a new,
public health action-oriented culture at CDC that emphasizes
accountability, collaboration, communication and timeliness."

As Bloomberg further notes, The agency has been faulted for an
inadequate testing and surveillance program, for not collecting
important data on how the virus was spreading and how vaccines were
performing, for being too under the influence of the White House
during the Trump administration and for repeated challenges
communicating to a politically divided and sometimes skeptical
public."

Former President Donald Trump will likely not be arrested on charges
stemming from the FBI's raid last week, according to a former Harvard Law
School professor.

"Yes, it's possible [but] I don't think it's going to happen," Alan
Dershowitz told Newsmax on Tuesday about whether Trump would be arrested.
People who believe that prosecution and an indictment would keep Trump
away from the 2024 campaign are "dead wrong," he remarked.

"He can run for president even if he's indicted, convicted, and wearing
striped shirts, prison garb," he added to the channel. "The Constitution
provides only four bases for disqualification for president, and being
convicted of a crime is not one of them. Congress can't change the
criteria that are in the Constitution for the election of the president."

Echoing statements made by Trump and some Republicans, Dershowitz said
the affidavit used to justify the FBI raid at Mar-a-Lago should be
released.

"You can redact the names of agents, you can redact sources and methods,
but what we want to know is what the basis of probable cause that they
have," he said.

A U.S. magistrate judge in the case, Bruce Reinhart, ordered the unsealing
of a warrant and property receipt. The warrant shows Trump is under
federal investigation for possibly several U.S. Code violations, while the
receipt shows agents found allegedly classified and top secret material at
Trump's home.

Affidavit

Reinhart scheduled a Thursday hearing on whether the affidavit and other
materials related to the case should be released.

Lawyers for the Department of Justice on Monday argued that releasing the
affidavit would damage the agency's investigation and argued that
unsealing a version with redactions "would not serve any public interest."
Several media outlets, watchdogs, and other entities have filed motions to
release the affidavit.

“Disclosure of the government’s affidavit at this stage would also
likely chill future cooperation by witnesses whose assistance may be
sought as this investigation progresses, as well as in other high-profile
investigations,” the Justice Department wrote. “The fact that this
investigation implicates highly classified materials further underscores
the need to protect the integrity of the investigation and exacerbates the
potential harm if information is disclosed to the public prematurely or
improperly.”

The former president on Monday said that FBI agents took three passports
from him before a spokesperson confirmed that a Department of Justice
official said they were returned. Hours later, he called for the Justice
Department to release the affidavit, which would provide insight into why
the Department of Justice believes it is justified in trying to obtain the
search warrant.

"There is no way to justify the unannounced RAID of Mar-a-Lago, the home
of the 45th President of the United States ... in the interest of
TRANSPARENCY, I call for the immediate release of the completely
Unredacted Affidavit pertaining to this horrible and shocking BREAK-IN.
Also, the Judge on this case should recuse!" Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Today in both "price fixing is useless" and "your taxpayer dollars at

In a move that can only be described as inconspicuously timed, Ford
announced last week that it is raising the price of its high end
electric F-150 by up to $8,500; an amount that adds another $1,000
onto the new $7,500 EV subsidy that was including in President Biden's
"Inflation Reduction Act". Base models are seeing their prices hiked
by $7,000.

Biden signed his "flagship" act on Tuesday afternoon.

One more time, so we're clear: a $7,500 taxpayer subsidy included in
an act named after reducing inflation appears to have spurred an even
larger price hike on electric pickup trucks.

The electric F-150 had previously been listed for $40,000 for its base
version. Now, it is priced at $47,000, according to CNN. The better
equipped versions of the vehicles have similar price hikes, up to
$8,500.

Rather than come right out and state what appears to be the obvious,
Ford said that the price change is due to "significant material cost
increases and other factors."

Other factors like...oh, say, a $7,500 taxpayer subsidized cash grab?

The automaker has made some "small improvements" to the vehicle,
however, according to the report. For example, the range for the base
model of the vehicle has moved higher to 240 miles from 230 miles. The
company is also adding a new feature called "Pro Trailer Hitch
Assist", which reportedly helps hook the truck up to trailers.

Sounds like $7,500 worth of improvements if you ask us...

And, as the report notes, Ford isn't the only automaker raising
prices. GM has also increased the price of its electric Hummer by
$6.250 - a similarly inconspicuous amount.

A study published in the journal Temperature has claimed that there is
a correlation between rising temperatures and children becoming fatter
and more unhealthy.

The study claims that climate change is causing more children to stay
inside, eat more, and be generally less active.

CBS Mornings covered the “findings” this past weekend, noting that
almost a third of kids are less fit than they were a generation ago.

It also notes that fewer children are engaging in physical activity
for 60 minutes a day.

The core argument of the study concerns “heat stress assessment” and
claims that it is more ‘dangerous’ and less fun for children to be
active if it’s warmer outside.

Today’s children are 30% less aerobically fit than their parents
were at their age, a new study found.

Critics have noted that the study uses stats recorded during the COVID
lockdowns, and as such it may be skewed.

It notes “Climate change will not only exert direct effects like
higher ambient temperatures in many regions but it will also be
responsible for indirect effects that can independently affect child
physical activity habits, for example as observed during the Covid-19
global pandemic.”

Perhaps the fact that children are becoming obese and unhealthy is
more to do with the fact that their parents increasingly feed them
unhealthy (more affordable) food, coupled with the fact that society
encourages, protects and even celebrates unhealthy lifestyles.

This point was recently amplified by Bill Maher, who noted that “It’s
Orwellian how often positivity is used to describe what’s not
healthy!”

Under a recent court order, Twitter is now required to provide Elon
Musk with access to documents compiled by a former executive that Musk
says is a key figure in calculating the number of fake accounts that
permeate the platform.

The executive, former General Manager of Consumer Product Kayvon
Beykpour, quickly disappeared from the halls of Twitter in April of
this year when it was announced that Musk would be seeking to purchase
the company. Beykpour was described in Musk's court filings as one of
the executives "most intimately involved with" determining the amount
of spam and bot accounts on Twitter. Though the court denied Musk
access to 21 other people involved in the company, it would appear
that the battle over the social media giant is just beginning.

Musk has accused Twitter of misrepresenting their user numbers, which
they claimed only made up around 5% of their total traffic. Musk
asserted that the amount of bots was much higher, and noted that
Twitter seemed to be stalling access to vital data while trying to
rush litigation in a bid to force a sale before the company had to
relinquish all the required information.

Suspicions on Twitter's user numbers have been growing for some time.
Twitter changed the way it manages and calculates such numbers in 2019
as their users began to decline. The company has suffered ongoing
profit losses in recent years - In 2020 the company faced a net
income loss of over $1.14 billion. In 2021 there was an income loss of
$221 million. Twitter still claims it earns a profit, but this is
primarily derived from stock buybacks and state and federal government
subsidies.

It is possible that the amount of data that Musk has received is
enough to support claims that the company is built on a foundation of
sand and that it has a high rate of fake accounts? If true, shares in
Twitter could suffer a precipitous decline. Could the company be
trying to compel Musk to finish his buyout before fake user numbers

The Department of Justice has yet to respond to Memo #1, Memo #2 and Memo
#3 with our recent inquiry to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad Deferred
Agreement. Goldman Sachs' Deferred Prosecution Agreement

with the United States of America is in potential breach, with ethical
enforcement being concerned.
Memo #4 aims to associate the malfeasance in Malaysia with war crimes of
aggression (in the planning, initiation, or execution of a large-scale and
serious act of aggression), leveraging the world’s only military divided
capital city Nicosia, Cyprus.

   Additionally, Memo #4 aims to earn the DOJ’s assessment of New York
   State’s regulatory marketplace manipulation deriving the war crime against
   peace, related to the planning, preparation, initiation, waging or
   participation in a common plan or conspiracy related to a war of
   aggression, which can only apply in relation to international armed
   conflict.

Fifty-one years ago this week, President Richard Nixon slammed shut
the “gold window” and eliminated the last vestige of the gold
standard.

Nixon ordered Treasury Secretary John Connally to uncouple gold from
its fixed $35 price and suspended the ability of foreign banks to
directly exchange dollars for gold. During a national television
address, on Aug. 15, 1971, Nixon promised the action would be
temporary in order to “defend the dollar against the speculators,” but
this turned out to be a lie.

The president’s move permanently and completely severed the dollar
from gold and turned it into a pure fiat currency.
The First Steps Toward Fiat

Nixon’s order was the end of a path off the gold standard that started
during President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s administration. June 5, 1933,
marked the beginning of a slow death of the dollar when Congress
enacted a joint resolution erasing the right of creditors in the
United States to demand payment in gold. The move was the culmination
of other actions taken by Roosevelt that year.

In March 1933, the president prohibited banks from paying out or
exporting gold, and in April of that same year, Roosevelt signed
Executive Order 6102. It was touted as a measure to stop hoarding, but
was, in reality, a massive confiscation scheme. The order required
private citizens, partnerships, associations and corporations to turn
in all but small amounts of gold to the Federal Reserve at an exchange
rate of $20.67 per ounce. In 1934, the government’s fixed price for
gold was increased to $35 per ounce. This effectively increased the
value of gold on the Federal Reserve’s balance sheet by 69%.

The reason behind Roosevelt’s executive order and the congressional
joint resolution was to remove constraints on inflating the money
supply. The Federal Reserve Act required all Federal Reserve notes
have 40% gold backing. But the Fed was low on gold and up against the
limit. By increasing its gold stores through the confiscation of
private gold holdings, and declaring a higher exchange rate, the Fed
could circulate more notes.
Nixon’s Final Blow

While American citizens were legally prohibited from redeeming dollars
for gold, foreign governments maintained that privilege. In the 1960s,
the Federal Reserve initiated an inflationary monetary policy to help
monetize massive government spending for the Vietnam War and Pres.
Lyndon Johnson’s “Great Society.” With the dollar losing value due to
these inflationary policies, foreign governments began to redeem
dollars for gold.

This is exactly how a gold standard is supposed to work. It puts
limits on the amount the money supply can grow and constrains the
government’s ability to spend. If the government “prints” too much
money, other countries will begin to redeem the devaluing currency for
gold. This is what was happening in the 1960s. As gold flowed out of
the US Treasury, concern grew that the country’s gold holdings could
be completely depleted.

Instead of insisting on fiscal and monetary discipline, Nixon simply
severed the dollar from its last ties to gold, allowing the central
bank to inflate the money supply without restraint.
Consequences

When he announced the closing of the gold window, Nixon said, “Let me
lay to rest the bugaboo of what is called devaluation,” and promised,
“your dollar will be worth just as much as it is today.”

This was also a lie.

The dollar has lost more than 85% of its value since Nixon’s fateful
decision, based on the CPI calculator. The purchasing power of a 1971
dollar is equal to less than 14 cents today.

Meanwhile, the dollar value of gold has gone from $35 an ounce to just
under $1,800 an ounce today. In percentage terms, that’s a 4,970%
increase.

Investment analyst Nick Giambruno said this was an entirely
predictable consequence of the US abandoning sound

The hooded and masked intruder who busted into Windsor Castle with a
high-powered crossbow on Christmas Day had filmed a video bragging of
his plans to “assassinate” Queen Elizabeth II, a court heard

Jaswant Singh Chail, 20, recorded the video just before he entered the
castle grounds — while the 96-year-old monarch was inside celebrating
the holiday, prosecutors told London’s Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

“I am sorry for what I have done and what I will do. I am going to
attempt to assassinate Elizabeth, queen of the royal family,” he said
in the video, in which he was seen holding a crossbow and wearing a

“This is revenge for those who died in the 1919 massacre,” Chail said,
referring to an incident when British troops shot dead nearly 400
Sikhs in their holy city of Amritsar in northwestern India.

“It is also revenge for those who have been killed, humiliated and
discriminated on because of their race,” he said in the video.

Chail managed to get to an area where he would have access to the
private quarters of the castle — where the Queen was celebrating with
her eldest son, heir apparent Prince Charles — before he was spotted
at 8:10 a.m. by a royal protection officer, the court heard.

“I am here to kill the Queen,” he allegedly told the cop, who
immediately drew a Taser and ordered the intruder to drop to his
knees, prosecutors said.

The officer described Chail as looking like something out of a
vigilante film or dressed for Halloween, and the “Supersonic X-bow” he

Searches of Chail’s home in Southampton also found a gas mask and
rope, the court was told.

Chail is charged under the Treason Act with intending to “injure the
person of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, or to alarm her Majesty.” He
has also been charged with threats to kill and possession of an
offensive weapon.

He was not asked to enter a plea at Wednesday’s hearing, where he
appeared remotely from Broadmoor, a high-security psychiatric
hospital.

He was ordered detained until his next court appearance on Sept. 14.

Charges under the Treason Act of 1842 are rare. In 1981, Marcus
Sarjeant was charged under the act after firing blank shots at the
Queen as she rode on horseback in the Trooping the Color parade in
London. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years in prison.

A more serious and even older Treason Act — from 1351 — has not been
used since World War II, when William Joyce, a propagandist nicknamed
Lord Haw Haw, collaborated with the Nazis. He was hanged in 1946.

Indians have long demanded a formal apology from Britain for what is
also known as the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre, when British troops
opened fire on unarmed civilians who had gathered to protest against a
