Well, good news for OS diversity fans - FreeBSD is transitioning, to Git that is :)
FreeBSD Can Now Be Built From Linux/macOS Hosts, Transition To Git Continues https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=FreeBSD-Q3-2020-Report .. - On the Git front, their transitioning from Subversion to Git they hope to have a beta repository by the end of October. .. - The FreeBSD Ports collection surpassed 40,000 ports/packages. .. - As of September it's now possible to build a functioning buildworld and buildkernel environment from macOS and Linux hosts. This is done due to some CI tools only supporting Linux/macOS and wanting to use them for constructing the FreeBSD base system and was sponsored by DARPA. Apparently even dinosoars can evolve, after all ;) On Thu, Nov 14, 2019 at 02:08:56PM +1100, Zenaan Harkness wrote: > A primary thing *BSD needs for "hip young newbie" attractiveness is > something less geriatric than CVS as their source code distribution > system... no matter how secure, stable etc it is, it's $CURRENT_YEAR > already and I for one welcome our Git overlords. > > There's "conservative, stable processes", then there's simply a lack > of will to engage the learning curve required to properly learn and > deploy that which is fundamentally superior in very way (except of > course, that the commands are different, and from the ultra > conservative view, that is, in fact, inferior). > > > > > On Wed, Nov 13, 2019 at 07:40:17PM -0700, Kurt Buff - GSEC, GCIH wrote: > > https://www.over-yonder.net/~fullermd/rants/bsd4linux/01 > > > > On Wed, Nov 13, 2019 at 6:03 PM grarpamp <grarp...@gmail.com> wrote: > > > > > > https://sivers.org/openbsd > > > https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=21521774 > > > > > > https://openbsd.org/ > > > https://freebsd.org/
