Is Tim May a Psychopath?

Asked and answered...The Jekyll-and-Hydeing place for the psychopath in a suit
February 21 2003
By Leon Gettler
One of the problems in identifying the corporate psychopath is that it's a
world in which some of the defining characteristics are commonplace.
Is the boss a psychopath?
Not a murderer, a vicious criminal or rapacious scam-meister. But we know
the type. Oozing charm and charisma but with no emotional depth; more
sizzle than steak. These are the ones who are manipulative and ruthless
enough to do whatever it takes and stick the knife into anyone standing in
their way. With their finely honed political skills, sharp timing and
chameleon-like abilities, they thrive on risk, chaos and upheaval. And they
are cold-blooded enough to claim later that they did nothing wrong.

Research done by Dr Robert Hare, emeritus professor of psychology at the
University of British Columbia and a New York-based colleague Dr Paul
Babiak indicates the psychopath usually seduces and takes over in five stages.

First, comes the entry phase, in which the psychopath charms the hiring
team into selecting him or her for the job. Then comes the assessment
phase. Here, the psychopathic employee identifies the potential support
network of Patrons (those who will protect and defend the psychopath),
Pawns (those who can be unwittingly manipulated into using their power in
service of the psychopath's aims), and Organisational Police (staff in such
control functions as audit, security, human resources who might get in the
way). Stage three is manipulation: the psychopath works the patrons and
pawns, building the influence network through close and intense one-on-one
relationships and at the same time moving up the organisation. The next
stage is confrontation. Individuals no longer deemed useful discover
they've been wiped, relegated from close friend to Patsy. Two factions
start forming: influential supporters (Pawns and Patrons); and powerless
detractors (Patsies and Police). Finally, there's ascension. That's when
all that planning and manipulation pays off - the patrons are betrayed, the
boss is shoved aside and the psychopath moves in.

Babiak and Hare, who consults to the FBI on serial murders and child
abductions, are developing the B-Scan, a 107-item tool to assess managers,
executives, high-potential employees and succession candidates.
Hare's internationally recognised psychopathy Checklist, or PCL-R, is used
in criminal justice systems for identifying psychopaths.

Hare himself estimates that psychopaths account for only about 1 per cent
of the general population.

But he says there would be a higher proportion in such areas as business,
politics, law enforcement agencies, law firms, religious organisations and
yes, the media.

"They have a predatory quality to them and the prey is always around
certain areas," Dr Hare said.

"In the business world, if I was a good psychopath and I was well educated,
bright, intelligent, grew up in the proper way, knew how to talk and dress
and how to use a fork, I'm not going to go out and rob banks.

"They're attracted to where the action is. You're not going to find one of
these guys out in Alice Springs working in a pub hoping to become manager
in five years."

The two are also working on a book with the tentative title Snakes In
Suits: When Psychopaths Go To Work.

Many might say it's not before time. For all the tomes that have been
written on leadership - go to Google and you get 11.7 million links, search
on Amazon and you'll find nearly 13,000 books - very little has been
written about the dark side of management.

Even though those who rise to the top are often the most aggressive,
ambitious, wilful and bloody-minded in their peer group. Go figure.

Still, last year's parade of corporate chicanery might have changed that,
starting from Kenneth Lay and the Enronites who, among other things, made
bucketloads by unloading $US1.1 billion ($A1.85 billion) of shares between
January 1999 and July 2001, while telling investors and employees to hold
on to theirs. From John Rigas and his sons, who allegedly looted cable
television company Adelphia to buy items such as a private golf course, to
the gaggle of failed bosses who have no qualms about being paid out
millions of dollars.

So it's no surprise now that analysis of the dark side has come into vogue.

The B-Scan is a 360-degree assessment that works off an exhaustive
questionnaire, filled in by anyone who works with the employee. Typically,
these would include the immediate supervisor, subordinates, former bosses,
peers and internal business customers.

They will grade the subject's tendencies in areas and categories and
sub-categories. These categories include "insincere" (for example, "makes a
well-packaged slick presentation", "difficult to pin down on personal
details"), untrustworthy ("will say or do anything to get his own way",
"tells a larger than usual number of white li

SouthWest Anarchist Network Conference April 11, 12 & 13, 2003. In
sunny Phoenix, Arizona
www.phoenixanarchist.org/swan

Hello everyone! We have been hard at work on the conference and we have some great updates. There will be three concurrent workshop tracks, one focusing on Border issues and two on experience-based anarchist organizing projects. Our food situation is looking excellent and we have delicious free meals planned for the whole weekend. Although we are still looking for performers, we do have some cool plans for a great social gathering Saturday night, including local fire performers. We are still looking for contacts with elderly anarchists, and encourage people to look into their communities and make some connections with the older folks. If you have any Mexican anarchist contacts, please lend us a hand and send them over.
There are several new resources and updates on our website, www.phoenixanarchist.org/swan We have some awesome fliers, designed by a local artist, finally done and they are up on the website to download and pass out, with a nifty SWAN logo, also designed by another local artist. Also, Phoenix anarchist Yanok has written a tentative network proposal, that is on the website documents page. Consider writing your own proposal. Phoenix anarchists will be meeting soon to discuss the network - you should, too! We will try to have the website translated into spanish soon. As we mentioned in the last mail-out, this conference depends of the work of its participants as much as the organizers. Please visit our website, and register if you are planning on joining us.
A few things to keep in mind, to bring to Phoenix: ~ A good attitude. ~ Clothes for warm weather and a sweater for cool nights. Phoenix has an average high of 83 and low of 51 in April (desert weather), so plan accordingly. Extra toilet paper, bowl and utensils for food, a water bottle, a sleeping bag, a mat, a pillow, first aid basics, sunscreen, a hat, a pen and a notebook. ~ $10 registration fee (no one turned away for lack of funds) ~ Some idea of what you and the anarchists from your town want from the network. ~ A willingness to take on at least one helping/work shift
Thanks to everyone and we look forward to seeing you in April!!! ~ SWANC Organizers

Uni students get a lesson in stealing
By IAN ROYALL, education reporter
21feb03

UNIVERSITY students were yesterday urged to steal to survive, as part of a
campaign to highlight poverty on campuses.

The National Union of Students unveiled a poster bearing the words: "If
Centrelink can't get you over the poverty line, try theft."
NUS president Daniel Kyriacou conceded the campaign was a stunt aimed at
raising awareness of student poverty.

"This poster is completely tongue in cheek and university students will see
the irony in it," he said. "If you are a student getting Centrelink
payments, you will be 20 to 40 per cent below the poverty line."

Education Minister Brendan Nelson said the students were doing a disservice
to their cause.

"The students are obviously perfectly entitled to express whatever point of
view they want on any issue, but you've got to draw the line when what they
are doing is advocating that students steal, break the law, from other
people," he said. "There would be several million pensioners, low-income
families and sole parents in this country who are similarly on social
security benefits who would not be particularly impressed."

A meeting between Dr Nelson and Mr Kyriacou scheduled for late yesterday
was cancelled.

Monash University law professor Bob Williams said the NUS risked
prosecution of incitement under the Crimes Act of 1958.

"But a poster such as this is stupid and irresponsible and should be
ignored by authorities," Professor Williams said.

Victorian Council of Social Service policy analyst Carolyn Atkins said the
campaign illustrated the financial strain faced by students who had to work
more and more to pay their bills.

"The poster does highlight that income support for students is majorly
inadequate."

Opposition education spokeswoman Jenny Macklin urged Dr Nelson to explain
deregulation of course fees to students.

Dumped MP wins pension
By JEREMY KELLY
21feb03

FORMER shadow treasurer Robert Dean will get a parliamentary pension for
life despite being booted out of politics for failing to properly enrol.

Former colleagues yesterday decided he should receive his pension, believed
to be $55,000 a year.
The Parliamentary Superannuation Fund, comprised of politicians from the
three main parties, had taken legal advice on whether Dr Dean's unique
departure from parliament disqualified him from the pension.

Dr Dean, 50, had spent 10 years in parliament and was entitled to a
CPI-indexed pension if his departure was deemed to be involuntary, such as
for health reasons or losing at an election or party pre-selection.

The super fund is believed to have taken legal advice which was in favour
of Dr Dean - who has returned to the Bar - getting his payouts.

Dr Dean's political career ended embarrassingly during last year's state
election campaign when it was revealed he had failed to enrol to vote. This
meant he was ineligible to stand as a candidate.

Dr Dean's failure to enrol and his nomination as a candidate in the seat of
Gembrook has been referred by the Victorian Electoral Commission to police
for investigation.

ABOUT US - WAITING FOR GODOT AT DE GAULLE The bizarre story of 'Alfred'
(Merhan Karimi Nasseri), an Iranian refugee whose Belgian residency papers
were stolen in Paris in 1988. When he went to Charles de Gaulle airport, he
couldn't board a plane for Belgium because he didn't have the papers. Then,
for 11 years, a Kafkaesque nightmare of bureaucratic stalling left him
unable to leave the terminal. In July 1999, Belgium granted Alfred refugee
status, but by that time Terminal One had become his home and he refused to
leave. At the time this film was made, he had become something of a media
figure, a role he seemed to enjoy, and amused himself by keeping a detailed
diary. He had his own chair in the airport, which he guarded jealously. He
lived off his contacts with the media and from the charity of airport
staff, eating mostly McDonald's. (From France, in English and French,
English subtitles). G CC

Yes, and you got a broken arm if you didn't retard the spark before you
cranked the car. (Hand crank of course)

Yes. Our curb side recycling will pick it up. Free too. That's the way
to avoid the toxic waste fee at the local oil changers. (I find it takes
less time to do it in my driveway too.)

And, I still am willing to work on my brake systems. Replacing pads on a
disk brake unit is a lot easier than replacing drums. I'm even dumb enough
to have replaced bearings in a couple of my transmissions. And had one
lock into high gear because I put the parts back on the main shaft in the
wrong order. Set a new personal record for removal, disassembly,
reassambly, and installation of a transmission after I slipped the clutch
to get the car home too.

Always get the service manual when you get the car. Just like, always get
the source to your security dependent code.

Ding! Ding! Give that man a cigar...

There are really lots of problems to be dealt with in this space,
ranging from legal/regulatory woes (are you a non-bank financial
instrument or not, etc.) to the nitty-gritty implementation problems,
to the inevitable "so what?" question to be answered. While I will
avoid speaking about the Digicash case [okay, I won't :) -- DC was too
early and did not want to deal with porn clearing, which is really the
only money game in town at the time] I can say that part of the MN
problem was looking at "p2p" too early. We were building a distributed
storage architecture before Napster ever existed as the first step
towards creating a sort of cypherpunk grid-services architecture to use
a few buzzwords people might be more familiar with -- to put this in
context, Doug and I were sketching out the basics of what would
eventually become MojoNation back in '92 and were white-boarding ideas
that later become MN in '95...

The storage back-end (what eventually was MN and now lives on in
HiveCache and Mnet) was needed as the first step towards a truly secure
anonymous email solution I was working on. ZKS had received funding and
seemed to be making waves, so we thought that a truly secure version of
a penet-style anonymous email system might be a good idea. Besides,
distributed storage had lots of potential uses if the mail idea didn't
work. To do a decent distributed storage system among a group of
completely untrusted peers you need some sort of distributed resource
allocation mechanism, thus the need for Mojo.

Along the way Napster rose up and we were swept along in the wake,
thinking that Mojo would solve what was perceived as a big problem at
the time: too many downloaders and not enough servers. Part of what
made Napster possible (and why it didn't happen before, even though the
ideas behind it are older than dirt and its architecture was only a
small step beyond the simplest possible solution to the problem) was
the fact that people suddenly had access to MP3 encoders and could rip
CD collections. When Napster first appeared these encoders were
complicated command-line tools so most people did not have their own CD
collection ripped yet, with Napster's arrival it was easier to download
your collection than to rip your own CDs. The consequence was that lots
of people using Napster ran into slow downloads, overloaded servers,
and a generally unsatisfying experience. Our new thinking at the time
was that Mojo could solve this by compensating those providing the
resources (in this case, bandwidth and the time needed to encode a
music collection). By the time we had everything ready this problem had
pretty much become a thing of the past. Encoders were a part of every
music app and most people had already built up a sizable MP3 collection
from either Napster or their own CDs.

The first question should always be: what problem are you trying to
solve here. This is why I think that micropayments and other
distributed resource allocation systems are not a critical need for
Mnet, but they might be worthwhile in the future and it is probably
easier to re-attach the old code and keep it up to date than to rebuild
this particular wheel when the time comes. This is also why I think
the paris metro pricing model and "pay for preference" rather than "pay
to play" that MN had at the end is going to be more useful and relevant
to this discussion than the traditional ecash fantasies that sometime
pop up when talking about this subject.

Jim

The People ARE the Web.

2003-02-20 Thread professor rat
Published on Thursday, February 20, 2003 by the Toronto Star
The People and the Web vs. Bush and Blair
by Haroon Siddiqui

LONDON—The million-strong anti-war march here was far more than the biggest
public protest in modern British history. It was a seminal moment, the full
significance of which is only beginning to be appreciated.

The first thing that struck me about the event was how un-British it was,
despite the very British orderliness of the human tide that kept rolling
patiently along central London all Saturday afternoon before converging on
Hyde Park.

The rally was to British politics what the communal mourning at Princess
Diana's funeral was to its sociology — a sudden and sharp break from
tradition.

More people turned up than anyone imagined possible. Once there, most shed
their British reserve for banter with strangers.

Their diversity — young and old, white and visible minorities, poor and the
middle class, grunge and Gucci, veteran protesters and first-time marchers
— constituted a rainbow coalition of the North American kind.

Those there, and even those not there, emerged elated. People proclaimed
how proud they felt, once again, to be British.

They had made an uncharacteristically powerful statement, to the American
president and to their own prime minister in particular.

"The marchers spurned isolation for solidarity, and fear for fury," wrote
Mary Riddell, columnist for the Sunday Observer. "Their momentum came from
nowhere."

Not quite. It came via the Web, here as also across Europe and North
America — a mass demonstration of the democratic potential of the Internet.

It was no accident that in the 60 nations where protests were held, the
biggest turnouts, as here, were where governments have bucked their
electorates to back the American march toward war — Italy (2 million),
Spain (2 million), and Australia (500,000, the biggest political protest in
Aussie history).

It also partially explained why authorities everywhere — including Toronto
and several American cities — were so surprised by the turnouts, so little
did they know the extent to which the anti-war movement had spread, almost
by stealth.

The media, too, stand reproached, especially in Canada and the United
States. Too many have been too busy beating war drums to hear their own
constituents.

Never before has so much slick and powerful war propaganda met with such
universal public derision in a common language of resistance from around
the world:

"Don't attack Iraq." "Not in my name." "No war for oil." And, one here with
a local twist, "Stop Mad Cowboy Disease."

"Wake up and smell the democracy," a poster admonished Prime Minister Tony
Blair. The biggest applause of the rally went to pop star Ms Dynamite when
she addressed him: "How long will you lie and deceive the country? Don't
underestimate or insult our intelligence."

"Regime change begins at home," read a sign.

The prime minister tried a new argument. The moral case against war, he
said, has a moral answer: Not removing Saddam Hussein condemns the Iraqis
to his killing fields.

True.

But coming from one who has long ignored Iraqi suffering under economic
sanctions, and who has also been bombing them since 1998, the rejoinder
proved unpersuasive.

His overall position is similarly seen as dishonest. He started off an
unabashed supporter of George W. Bush. Then he claimed to be acting as a
brake on the president and took credit for pushing America through the
United Nations. He even called for "more time and space" for U.N.
inspectors and committed himself to a second Security Council resolution.

But with unilateral American action seemingly imminent, he is preparing to
abandon the U.N., saying he would not let "an unreasonable veto" deter him
from his jihad against the Butcher of Baghdad.

Should he break his word to Britons and go to war without a U.N. approval,
counselled The Independent editorially, dissident ministers "should resign
and Labour MPs should defy the whips and vote against" their government.

There is speculation about Blair being toppled, as was Margaret Thatcher by
her MPs. Or becoming a prime minister without a party, as was Ramsay
MacDonald in 1931, abandoned by Labour after deep divisions over post-1929
economic policies and forced to form a government with Tory support.

The anti-war coalition is not quite through yet. It is calling for massive
civil disobedience the day the invasion of Iraq begins: "We want people to
walk out of their offices, go on strike, sit down, occupy buildings,
demonstrate."

In Canada, anti-war sentiment is running high as well. But unlike Blair, or
Silvio Berlusconi in Italy and Jose Maria Aznar in Spain, Jean Chrétien is
at least respecting it, even if not totally reflecting it in his policy.

Canada does not have the luxury of distance from America that Germany and
France do. Nor are their economies as dependent on America as ours is.

Longish thread on the ongoing debate over WWP influence in ANSWER.(extract)

http://www.infoshop.org/inews/stories.php?story=03/02/20/7261744

This entire "red-baiting" debate shows how dysfunctional the left is these
days. An argument could be made that Corn and Gitlin ARE engaged in
red-baiting, since they suggest that the presence of ANY variety of
communists or socialists in a prominent role is bad for the movements
image. ANSWER does have a case there.
But the key thing here for everybody to understand is that ANSWER is being
dishonest and evasive when they raise the charge of red-baiting. The WWP
sectarians who runs ANSWER seek to poison the movement's internal debates
with the idea that ANY criticism of their presence within ANSWER is
red-baiting. I have nor problem with radical communists and socialists
being involved in anti-war work, yet WWP supporters have charged me with
red-baiting when I criticize the WWP.
THE CHARGE OF RED-BAITING IS USED BY AUTHORITARIAN LEFTISTS TO STOP
DEMOCRACY AND TRANSPARENCY WITHIN ACTIVISTS MOVEMENTS.

Two Israeli soldiers have been arrested on suspicion they aided a spy ring
trading information about Israel to Hizbullah for guns and hashish,
military sources in Jerusalem were quoted as saying Tuesday.
Israeli police said a total of 12 people were in custody, including Arab
and Jewish civilians, and that more soldiers were likely to be arrested.
The civilian suspects, all Israeli citizens, live in the Arab village of
Ghajar, which straddles the Israeli-Lebanese border, and the nearby Jewish
town of Kiryat Shemona.
An Israeli Army statement said the network supplied Hizbullah with maps,
intelligence and night-vision equipment in exchange for hashish and cash.

Another analogy might be HAMs --antennae hacks--, though they're more
liscenced and
don't get the babez either. During emergencies, they're useful, like
the car-hack who fixes a stranded grandmother's car; at other times,
they jam your radio or TV, like a car-hack running top speed, mufflerless,

Physics has selected those who fear screwing up personal-life-critical

Carburetor? Didn't that connect to the phonograph through a cat's whisker?

And "evolution" should be in scare-quotes. The trade off has been
cleanliness vs. reliability/maintainability/cost/weight/power/etc,
and so on some scales modern cars are regressions.

Bingo. And hacking on production machines is a no-no.

D'oh!

In some states, cars can't be registered without passing a safety
inspection that tests for braking distance, etc. Not so in Calif.
Selection is a little stronger here :-)

[Aside] I recently learned that back before you needed a license to drive
(ca 1930)
you would manually adjust the spark timing (!!) according to your engine
speed.
After handcranking the engine to start.

Kinda like toggling opcodes into a Altair, eh?

And these days you're supposed

Well you can drop off your oil and various places will take it, free.
You're getting soft, Bill. :-) What's next, preinstalled Linux on a
preassembled machine?
Besides, you could collect your Kyoto tax credit for sequestering
the carbon in your lawn.

[1] Air Quality Management District, the pollution police in SoCal at
least. They make 2-cycle engines and useful BBQ lighter fluid illegal here.
Also won't let you register a car if you've modified the pollution controls
in any way, since mods are officially bad and you can't register a car

Secret Surveillance...Civil-liberties groups ask high court to limit U.S.
spying powers

By Gina Holland
The Associated Press

WASHINGTON — Civil-liberties groups are using a long-shot approach in an
effort to get the Supreme Court to limit the government's power to spy,
filing an appeal yesterday on behalf of people who don't even know they're
being monitored.

The American Civil Liberties Union and other organizations hope to draw the
justices into their first post-Sept. 11, 2001, anti-terror case with a
challenge of the Justice Department's surveillance powers.

Congress gave the government broader spying authority after the terrorist
attacks. The ACLU argued that a review court misinterpreted the law, making
it too easy for the government to get permission to listen to telephone
conversations, read e-mail and search private property, and then use the
information in criminal cases.

The ACLU and other critics worry there are not enough checks to ensure the
government's snooping doesn't stretch to law-abiding citizens.

The Supreme Court might not allow the appeal because the ACLU was not one
of the parties in the review court case.

The ACLU, joined by American-Arab groups, argue that they represent people
who are being monitored under warrants approved by the super-secret Foreign
Intelligence Surveillance Court, or "spy court." The court deals with
intelligence requests involving suspected spies, terrorists or foreign agents.

"The irony is no one can know for certain whether they are the subject of
these secret surveillance orders because they're secret," said Ann Beeson,
ACLU's associate legal director.

The November ruling by the review court was a victory for the Bush
administration, which argues that the surveillance is a key component of
its war on terror.

The ruling removed legal barriers between the surveillance operations of
the Justice Department's criminal and intelligence divisions. The two had
been treated differently because the standard for criminal wiretaps,
instead of those granted by the spy court, is considered more difficult
because of the constitutional protection against unreasonable searches and
seizures.

The decision "opens the door to surveillance abuses that seriously
threatened our democracy in the past," justices were told in the filing by
the ACLU, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the
American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee and the Arab Community Center
for Economic and Social Services.

Bush's war timetable unravelling

Owen Bowcott, Ewen MacAskill, Gary Younge in New York and Suzanne
Goldenberg in Baghdad
Thursday February 20, 2003
The Guardian

The Bush administration's determination to keep to a tight timetable that
would see its forces ready to go to war against Iraq by early March is in
danger of coming unstuck.
Plans to open a northern front against Iraq - seen as vital to ensure a
pincer movement against Baghdad - were looking shaky last night as Turkey
resisted an ultimatum from Washington to accept US troop deployments or
forfeit a multi-billion dollar compensation package.

The White House spokesman, Ari Fleischer, warned Ankara it had been
presented with a final financial offer - believed to exceed $26bn - and
that a response was needed. "There comes a moment when plans must be made,
decisions must be made, and it cannot stretch on indefinitely," he said.

The trouble with Turkey is compounded by fresh diplomatic hurdles. The US
and Britain have been forced to postpone until next week the publication of
a second UN resolution designed to marshal support within the security
council for military action.

The resolution will now not be put to a vote before early March, following
another report by the chief weapons inspector, Hans Blix. British jitters
over persuading the UN to back war were underlined yesterday when officials
insisted that they would press ahead with military action even if the
resolution were heavily defeated.

The likelihood of such a defeat has deepened with the open rift between the
US and France and Germany which was again on display yesterday. The US
secretary of state, Colin Powell, in effect accused the two European
countries of being too cowardly to go to war.

"It is not a satisfactory solution to continue inspections indefinitely
because certain countries are afraid of upholding their responsibility to
impose the will of the international community," Mr Powell said.

But the most urgent problem facing the US in its push to war is Turkey,
traditionally a staunch Nato partner. The Turkish leader, Recep Tayyip
Erdogan, indicated yesterday there was little sign of the impasse being
resolved quickly, saying there were no plans for a parliamentary vote this
week on allowing US troops on Turkish soil.

Failure by Turkey to open its bases to American troops would mean that US
transport ships carrying thousands of servicemen and essential equipment
would have to be re-routed to the Gulf or elsewhere. Any diversionary
attack against Baghdad from the north may then have to be scaled back
dramatically. The block on US servicemen might also leave the Kurds
vulnerable to an Iraqi counter-attack.

As a fallback position, US special service troops and Kurdish fighters have
been upgrading three airstrips in northern Iraq which might be used as
advance supply positions. But the US would be denied the modern
infrastructure of the main Turkish airbases such as Incirlik, Batman and
Diyarbakir.

The latest opinion polls in Turkey suggest that 90% of the electorate is
opposed to war.

Turkey's resistance to participating in an unpopular war, which it fears
would undermine its weakened economy, has been bolstered by the strength of
anti-war protests around the world last weekend.

The US defence secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, admitted the lack of cooperation
was causing some discomfort: "Obviously, the more assistance one gets the
easier it is. The less assistance one gets, the more difficult it is." He
predicted an eventual Turkish climbdown.

The disarray over military planning will boost the Iraqi government, which
has already been buoyed by Mr Blix's last report as well as by worldwide
anti-war demonstrations. UN officials said yesterday that the Iraqi
government has been emboldened to the point where it sees no urgency in
meeting the weapons inspectors' call for deeper cooperation.

In a move which suggests that the inspectors are taking a tougher stance,
Mr Blix has decided to ask Iraq to destroy its al-Samoud 2 missiles,
diplomatic sources said last night.

Iraq's response to the demand will be a crucial test of the inspection system.

UN officials in Baghdad also said yesterday that they had detected a
disturbing shift in Baghdad's attitude in the last few days. They say the
protests have encouraged Iraq to believe it can turn the divisions in the
security council to its advantage, a strategy that could stall the speedy
progress sought by Mr Blix, who is expected to make a further report to the
security council around March 6 rather than, as suggested by Washington and
London, on February 28.

U.S. lies shouldn't be leading us into battle again.
MICHELE LANDSBERG

So you wonder why so many Canadians are opposed to the U.S. plans to attack
Iraq? It's not that we're weak-kneed wimps of Canuckistan, or
bleeding-heart pacifists, or saps who actually believe Saddam, to repeat
some of the more boorish epithets.

Whatever our other reasons for opposing the war, we're also skeptics,
remembering the long history of official lies that have served as a
smokescreen for U.S. government adventurism in other places and times.

Some of us remember Cuba, and how mighty America and its CIA planned an
invasion of that little island after Fidel Castro came to power. Their
tragically botched attack in 1961, when more than 100 commandoes died
senselessly at the Bay of Pigs, is not forgotten.

I've been browsing some of the declassified documents that record the
actual top-secret conversations of the most powerful men in America, then
and afterward, in their obsessive and ludicrous attempts to invent a
plausible reason to launch a major military attack on Cuba.

In March, 1962, for example, the top officials of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
met in Washington to come up with ideas "which would provide justification
for U.S. military intervention in Cuba." Operation Mongoose, it was called.
(Presumably, Castro was the cobra).

To destroy Castro was a government obsession. "...All else is secondary, no
time, money, effort or manpower is to be spared" said a White House memo.

They plotted to destroy Cuba's sugar crop or to contaminate food supplies,
in order to provoke the lamentably "apathetic" Cubans to rebel, rise up and
call in American troops to help them overthrow Castro. They thought of
creating "at least the illusion of a popular [anti-Castro] movement," for
want of a real one.

According to these archived documents, the Americans were prepared to do
anything: invade Guatemala with soldiers disguised as Cubans, blow up one
of their own warships in Guantanamo Bay and stage a fake funeral for the
`victims', and even rig up an elaborate phoney attack on a tourist charter
flight (complete with airplane debris floating in the ocean) to persuade
the United Nations and world public opinion that the U.S. was "suffering
justifiable grievances". They went so far as to consider mounting a
terrorism campaign against Cuban exiles in Miami, even wounding some people
and "widely publicizing" the incidents as caused by Castro. Or — and please
listen to the jaunty language — "We could sink a boatload of Cubans en
route to Florida (real or simulated)."

These covert operations, including "a build-up of seemingly unrelated
incidents", would, they vowed, create an image of the Cuban government as
"rash and irresponsible ... an alarming and unpredictable threat to the
peace of the Western Hemisphere".

Does any of this sound hauntingly familiar? Is there any echo with the
current depiction of Iraq as demonically dangerous?

For much of the last half of the 20th century, American presidents and
their chief advisers and military leaders were directly involved in
elaborate schemes of drug-running, manipulating public opinion through
planted editorials and news stories, and illicit campaigns of what they
themselves called "White propaganda," like the now-notorious episode of the
hoked-up Iraqi atrocities against incubator babies in Kuwait, a crime
invented by a powerful public relations firm and used to sway Congress to
support the Gulf War.

I needn't remind Star readers about the government crimes of the
Iran-Contra gun-running scandal, ruthlessly designed to overturn the
elected Sandinista government of Nicaragua by organizing and arming the
Contra opposition. Browse the National Security Archives and you can
eavesdrop directly on these ruthless conspirators as they plotted to use
the U.S. media to vilify their enemies and whitewash their chosen henchmen.

But don't stop there. Go ahead and read the transcript of the meeting at
the White House in September, 1970.They were all there: Nixon, his
vice-president, the heads of the CIA and the military. Henry Kissinger
spelled out how they must "bring down" Salvador Allende, the newly elected
democratic socialist president of Chile. They all agreed to subvert Allende
by sabotaging the Chilean economy, while (and Nixon insisted on this)
behaving publicly "in a cool and correct manner".

Allende, of course, was duly murdered three years later in a coup
orchestrated by the CIA, which ushered in the 17-year bloody dictatorship
by mass murderer Augusto Pinochet.

The history of U.S. foreign policy is paradoxical: so much bush-league
covert action, so many lies, so many failures, so little understanding of
consequences, so many botched interventions. And yet, such openness. What
other regime would make its top secret documents available through freedom
of information laws, to be read on the Internet by anyone with an inquiring
mind?

USG to trap, trace, and tap Americans' communications

SEEKING BUSINESS PARTNER

2003-02-20 Thread Mohammed Abba Abacha
Dear Sir,
Greeting in the name of the most HIGH.I am delighted to write this letter to you
hoping that you will understand my predicament and respond. I am Dr (Mrs.) Maryam
Abacha, wife of the late Nigerian head of state, General Sani Abacha.
I am in possession of US$50.5 Million, which I want to invest in your
country. For clarification purpose, this money, enclosed in three boxes; is deposited
with a security company disguised as a family treasure. It is not an ill-gotten wealth
rather; it was generated from my organization - family
support program (F.S.P.) This money ($50.5M) was deposited in a private security firm
in the Southern Part of Africa through a “Diplomatic Courier” arrangement (I will
disclose the exact location and country in due course of this transaction). This
transaction is 100% risk free so long as I am involved. It is very important
therefore, that you continue with my son who i have sent you this mail through his
email account , (Mr. Abba Mohammed Abacha) providing him also with your private
telephone and fax numbers to enable him open up a good relation with you in respect to
this transaction.
Please, this transaction demands absolute confidence and confidentiality for the
security of my family. My entire family has lost all we had as our bank accounts were
frozen and assets siezed visit website:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/world/africa/newsid_741000/741506.stm
For your acceptance of this offer to help; I will give you 20% of the total money,
another 5% will be used to offset any costs to both parties in the course of the
transaction. We wish to use our part of the money to buy a living house for my family
in your country, and the balance will be kept for investment package also in your
country,
which will be under your supervision. You are free to go ahead in this
transaction with my son (Abba Mohammed Abacha). If we must do this business
successfully, we must keep it away from the public.
Looking forward to your quick response.
Yours sincerely,
Dr. Mrs. Maryam Abacha.

Re: To Steve Shear, re Rome, Architects, Shuttles, Congress

2003-02-20 Thread Bill Stewart
Back when the term "hackers" started to be misused by the press,
as in "scary teenage vandals breaking into computers",
my usual comment was that teenage computer hackers were really
no different from the teenage car hackers of our parents' generations.
They did a lot of tinkering with machinery and hanging out with friends,
some of them mostly obsessed about making their cars look really cool,
some of them were trying to make Grandma's old junker into basic
transportation,
and some of them were drag-racing across your lawn with no mufflers.
It was an obsession that was more introverted and individual than sports,
some kids later turned it from a hobby into a paying job,
and while it was a bit less intellectual than computing,
it was also more real, and unlike computing, it was also a tool for
getting girls...

At 08:27 PM 02/19/2003 -0500, Major Variola (ret) wrote:
Hackers don't work on their own brakes for a reason: evolution.
Nah - hackers don't work on brakes because they're _avoiding_ evolution :-)
If I were planning to contribute directly to the future's gene pool,
I've got better criteria to do natural selection on than
skill at mechanical repair, and there are much more efficient ways to
transmit those skills than killing off people who don't have them.
It's also evolution of cars and financial states.
Back when cars had actual user-serviceable parts, I'd work on carburetors
and distributors and spark plugs and pollution-control widgets,
but except for my first auto mechanics class, I didn't mess with brakes -
if I mess up an engine, my car might not go anywhere, but that's
usually fail-safe, while making mistakes on brakes is fail-dangerous.
(Also, my next car had disk brakes, and I only knew how to do drum brakes.)
I changed a couple of sets of valve cover gaskets myself,
but when I was in grad school and the car I had then needed it,
the local garage would do the job for $15, which was worth paying for,
in part because there was a lot more pollution control equipment than
on the earlier car, and a lot more hoses and vacuum lines to move around
to get to the engine which would all need reconnecting later.
After several years of newer cars with electronic ignitions,
I acquired my first van, which was old enough to have a distributor,
but it was a Chevy so you adjusted it with dwell stuff instead of
feeler gauges, which was too much bother. And these days you're supposed
to recycle your oil instead of using it to patch the cracks in driveways,
so that's another job to pay somebody else to do.
My Cruiser was recalled last year - the main thing they had to do
was upgrade the firmware, so now it accelerates a bit better...

Re: eBay's Patriotism

2003-02-20 Thread Adam Back
Google is likely an eavesdropping hot-spot in intelligence gathering.

A big fraction of web requests go via google. When you're looking for
something particular it's a likely starting point to find a site
specialising in info you need.

Google offers no SSL interface. And anyway from these stories it
seems that google et al are giving free access to LEAs either directly
or in the form of ex-LEAs on the payroll due to the current
self-policing / deputization trend.

So it seems a useful class of new applications to explore would be
distributed searching, and content blind searching. ie Some way for
users to be able to search requiring collaboration of search nodes (a
la mixmaster) to associate search terms with users, to hide who is
looking, a one hope example would be web anonymizer systems like
anonymizer.com, ZKS' websecure, etc.

Or better yet Private Information Retrieval with searching, to provide
a systems where the server can receive and service a search request
without knowing what the search is.

Even just making the search nodes distributed, or peer2peer would help
as the target of attack would be much more expensive and harder to
subject to continuous eavesdropping and search term analysis.

In other words as well as browsing anonymity, searching anonymity, or
non-observable searching would be independently useful applications.

The weak point in browsing without anonymity is the search engine
because of it's central position in being able to watch the initial
search result based traffic destined for individual web sites.

Hospital after being spritzed Wednesday as the [swarthy
complexioned] student passed through a [fatherland] checkpoint
at Philadelphia International Airport.

Unsure whether they had a [vicious, freedom hating terrorist]
biological attack on their hands, [heroic] hospital officials
ordered a full quarantine.

Ambulances inbound to the [freedom loving people's] emergency
room were diverted to other hospitals. Patients and staff who
had contact with the [heroic, crusading] guards were quarantined
for nearly three hours.

"We didn't know what the [atomized chemical or bioweapon]
substance was," said hospital spokeswoman Nan Myers.

[Heroic] FBI spokeswoman Linda Vizi said the 22-year-old [so
called] student, whose [arabic sounding] name was withheld by
authorities, was detained and [interrogated under duress and
coercion and] questioned, then released [for further, secret
surveillance] hours later after [the people's] chemical tests
confirmed that the [terroristic] vapors were harmless [probably
due to an oversight on the part of the freedom hating terrorist
swarthy complexioned so called student].

"He was here legally. All his papers were in order. His flight
plans were in order. ["Shit, we tried like hell for three hours
to pin some kind of heavy shit on the kid, but the FBI newbies
kept talking about 'facts are stubbord' or some such shit."]

No federal law was violated. He was released," Vizi said. "He
missed his flight to Europe." [We tried to fuck with him as much
as we could, but time just ran out.]

Initially, even the [heroic] screeners themselves didn't
consider the [terrorist] incident worth reporting, Vizi said.
But they had second thoughts about the sweet-smelling spray and
called police [after we told them this was a free ticket to
fucking with an A-rab, why not have some fun?], she said.

Flights weren't disrupted and no one was evacuated from the
terminal, said [people's] airport spokesman Mark Pesce.

It's well known that eBay ruminates over what fraud could do to its

Nonetheless, it's somewhat stunning to see eBay's policy articulated in

It's probably not a bright idea to login to eBay when just browsing

No need for a Library Awareness Program with out-of-date,

2003-02-20 Thread Mr.J.P.Migan
Attn my friend,

I J.P.Migan, have decided to contact you on a business
transaction that will be very beneficial to both of us at the end of the
transaction. I am a branch director in a bank, Benin Republic. On June 6
1997, an American oil consultant/contractor, Mr. LAMBERT HADDAD made a
numbered time (Fixed) deposited for twelve calendar months, valued at TEN
Million United States Dollars in my branch. Upon maturity, I sent a
routine notification to his forwarding address but got no reply.
And after a month, we sent a reminder and finally we discovered from
his contract employers, An Oil Petroleum Corporation company that Mr.
LAMBERT HADDAD died from an automobile accident.

On further investigation, we found out that he did not leave a WILL and
all attempts to trace his next of kin were fruitless. I therefore made
further investigation and discovered that Mr. LAMBERT HADDAD did not
declare any next of kin in all his official documents, including his Bank
Deposit paperwork.
This sum of TEN Million United States Dollars is still sitting in the
Bank and the interest is being rolled over with the principal sum at the
end of each year. No one has came forward to claim it. And according to
the Benin Republic Law, at the expiration of 6{Six} years, the money
will revert to the ownership of the Benin Republic Government if nobody
applies to claim the funds.
Consequently, my proposal is that I will like you as a foreigner to
stand in as the next of kin to Mr. LAMBERT HADDAD so that the fruits of
this old man's labor will not get into the hands of some corrupt
government officials.

This is simple; (1) I will like you to provide me immediately with your
full names and address so that the I will prepare the necessary
documents and affidavits, which will put you in place as the next of kin. (2)
A bank account in any part of the world, which you provide, will then
facilitate the transfer of this money to you as the beneficiary/next of
kin of Mr. LAMBERT HADDAD . The money will be paid into your account
for us to share in the ratio of 60% for me and 40% for you.

There is no risk at all as all the paperwork for this transaction will
be done and my position as the Branch Manager guarantees the
successful execution of this transaction. If you are interested, please reply
immediately via the private email address. Upon your response, I shall
then provide you with more details and relevant documents that will help
you understand. Please observe utmost confidentiality, and be rest
assured that this transaction would be most profitable for both of us
because I shall require your assistance to invest my share in your country.

Awaiting your urgent reply .

Thanks and regards,

Mr Jean Paul Migan.

eBay's Patriotism

2003-02-20 Thread Eric Cordian
There's an interesting story on the home page of
http://www.haaretzdaily.com/ disclosing eBay's policy of giving all
information they have on a user to any guvment-appearing person who asks
for it.

It's well known that eBay ruminates over what fraud could do to its
reputation, and employs a slew of former prosecutors and ex-LEA types to
be on the constant lookout for it.

Nonetheless, it's somewhat stunning to see eBay's policy articulated in
print, in somewhat less disingenuous terms than are articulated in the "I
Agree" link one clicks when registering with the site.

It's probably not a bright idea to login to eBay when just browsing items.

-

...

One fax to eBay from a lawman - police investigator, NSA, FBI or CIA
employee, National Park ranger - and eBay sends back the user's full name,
email address, home address, mailing address, home telephone number, name
of company where seller is employed and user nickname. What's more, eBay
will send the history of items he has browsed, feedbacks received, bids he
has made, prices he has paid, and even messages sent in the site's various
discussion groups.

And you are obviously a political retard. Communism is dead, the enemy now
is fascism. Do you know the difference? Can we say corporate welfare
state??? The mega-corps *are* the problem today, it's they who put and keep the
fascists in power.
Quite frankly, I'd trade Castro for Bush anytime, at least we wouldn't have
all the goddam disgusting christian bullshit all the time.

"zmag.org and commiedreams.org gets you blacklisted, as it indicates that
one is of the so-called "progressive, leftist" commie totalitarian
persuasion."

Blacklisted! Sniff sniff...I'm hurt! Does this mean I'm kicked out from the
yearbook committee too? And do I have to tear up my "Cypherpunks" membership
card?

The only important point to make here, is that it doesn't really matter what
the political persuasion is of someone who contributes to anything nominally
Cypherpunkish. If they are promoting/using/developing/suggesting strong
crypto apps, certain types of thought-control will eventually be thrown off
as a result of such apps. (Of course, there are those who believe that
something like an anarchic/libertarian society must arise as a result, but
one's BELIEFS are largely irrelevant.)

As for quoting zmag (which I do), it's silly that this indicates a
necessarily leftie/pinko/commie slant. Chomsky, a frequent contributor, has
described himself as basically anarchic in his political leanings. More
importantly, however, is the fact that Chomsky often develops some very
strong counter-arguments to US agit-spew. However, if quoting zmag means I'm
a "commie pinko faggot", sobeit.

That's the socio/psych aspect of the teacher/student relationship which has
little to do with the actual functions of imparting and learning
information. Better to have part of the day spent with a shrink in group
counseling sessions inbetween time on machine. Since the info would be learned
at least 10x faster, they'd have plenty of time for that, or hands on shop
classes, etc.

IN THE NEWS: James Randi to be Honored with the
Richard Dawkins Award
02.17.03 - The award is being unveiled at the annual AAI
conference this year being held April 18 - 20, 2003 in Tampa, Florida,
and will be presented during the banquet ceremonies on Saturday, April
19. The 2003 award will be given to: "The Amazing" James Randi
(for more information about the recipient at:
www.randi.org)
James Randi is being honored for his decades of work challenging
pseudo-scientific claims. His dedication to promoting critical thinking
is in keeping with the highest standards set by Dr. Richard Dawkins. Like
Dawkins, Randi is an inspiration to everyone who searches for truth and
applies rationalism to solving life's mysteries. Demonstrating a
nontheist world view in a straightforward manner, Randi has combined
entertainment and education while debunking charlatans who would
encourage human ignorance. On stage and in writing he is never less than
"The Amazing" James Randi.
The Richard Dawkins Award will be given every year to honor an
outstanding Atheist whose contributions raise public awareness of the
nontheist life stance; who through writings, media, the arts, film,
and/or the stage advocates increased scientific knowledge; who through
work or by example teaches acceptance of the nontheist philosophy; and
whose public posture mirrors the uncompromising nontheist life stance of
Dr. Richard Dawkins.

Did you get a valentines day death threat?

2003-02-20 Thread professor rat
Between the Valentine's Day threat I received and all this talk of a David
Koresh wannabe with "...a stockpile of weapons in his bedroom closet,"
walking the streets of Pornville, I'm thinking simplyjimmyd reader Big Lee
gave me some good advice.

Big Lee writes: "BTW... Theres a new Smith & Wesson .50 caliber handgun
which is now truly the "Most Powerful Handgun in the World." It weighs
4lbs, has an 8 inch barrel, and can drop a Brown Bear in it's tracks. I'm
ordering one!"

The Associated Press recently reported on this new, American, penis-extension:

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Dirty Harry is now outgunned: Smith & Wesson has
introduced its biggest handgun ever, a .50-caliber Magnum revolver.

The five-shot Model 500 revolver with an 81/2 inch barrel weighs 721/2
ounces, or about 4 1/2 pounds - roughly a pound more than the big-frame
.44-caliber Magnum boasted by Dirty Harry in the movies.

It fires a new .50-caliber cartridge that the company said produces nearly
three times the muzzle energy of the .44 Magnum.

Company president Roy C. Cuny said the new revolver builds on the .357
Magnum revolver it introduced in the 1930s and the .44 Magnum that it
brought out in the 1950s.

The .50-caliber gun, which sells for $989, is one of nine new models the
company introduced this week at a trade show in Orlando, Fla. Cuny said it
was the largest number of new introductions in recent years.

Don't Attack Iraq.

2003-02-20 Thread professor rat

Virtual March on Washington Headquarters.
Welcome. MoveOn.org is hosting the online headquarters for the Virtual
March on Washington on February 26th, sponsored by the
Win Without War Coalition. Please
join us NOW for the march.
On February 26th, every Senate office will receive a call every
minute from a constituent, as they receive a simultaneous flood of
faxes and e-mail. Hundreds of thousands of people from across the country
will send the collective message: Don't Attack Iraq. Every Senate
switchboard will be lit up throughout the day with our message -- a
powerful reminder of the breadth and depth of opposition to a war in
Iraq. And on that day, "antiwar rooms" in Washington, D.C., and
Los Angeles will highlight the day's progress for the national media,
while local media can visit the "antiwar room" online to
monitor this constituent march throughout the day.

A Rose by any other name.

2003-02-20 Thread professor rat

Shakespear wrote, "A rose by any other name would smell as
sweet." But does this poetic philosophy hold true for
pussy?
According to Dr. Betty Dodson, and her video "Viva La Vulva,"
it does. Here's how Dr. Dodson describes her video on her website,
BettyDodson.com:
"Ten women from different ethnic backgrounds, aged 25 to 68,
celebrate the beauty of their sex organs by posing for their pussy
portraits. They discuss their attitudes and share their inner-most
thoughts about the relationship they have with their genitals."

(jimmyD sez: I don't have a vulva, but I can certainly understand having
a relationship with one's genitals. Mine with mine is very touchy-feely
and hands-on.)
"They discuss their attitudes and share their inner-most thoughts
about the relationship they have with their genitals, including the
pet-names they have given pussy."
(jimmyD sez: When I was much younger, I named my dick 'Winston.' Don't
ask me why, I have no freakin' clue.)
"They groom their genitals for a close-up photo while sharing
techniques on trimming and shaving pubic hair. At the end of the video,
Betty guides the group through a series of different techniques for
genital massage. The light-hearted dynamic of Viva la Vulva makes for
joyful viewing.
While the other women observe, Betty Dodson points out the individual
design of each vulva in the spot light. A Classical cunt with perfect
proportions, a Gothic vulva with cathedral shaped arches, a Baroque Pussy
with elaborate drapery and an Art Deco yoni with graceful fluted lines.
The variation and diversity is like snowflakes: No two vulvas are ever
identical."
jimmyD sez: I have to agree with that last statement. As a professional
pornographer with almost a decade of experience, I've visually appraised
hundreds and hundreds of pussies--up close! And each one seems to have
its own unique appearance. I'll admit some are more attractive than
others, but each one, in its own way, seems to hold its own
allure--though I'll admit some hold more allure than others. By the way,
has anyone else ever heard it called a "yoni?"
A satisfied customer writes in to Dr. Dodson:
"My Dear Betty,
Finally, after too long a wait, I received your "Viva La Vulva"
video. It was worth the wait, unquestionably. Well done, my dear. Having
always loved looking at a woman's vulva, et al, I was still enthralled at
just how unique each woman can be. The color, shape, size the labia and
how beautiful they really are is truly amazing. You ladies are
fantastically more beautiful than we guys.
Of course I loved looking at each lady's clitoris. All in all, it is a
lovely tape. You are to be applauded again for helping women appreciate
the beauty of their genitals. There is really no ugly pussy, only
different and unique ones. Keep up the good work. When will we see
another video? Please feel free to include my letter on your web site.

Dave. Jackson, MS"
jimmyD sez: I agree, Dave! There really must not be an ugly pussy. I've
never heard a guy say that once he got far enough along with a girl to
reveal her pussy, he decided to turn back and not to fuck it because it
was too damn ugly. I guess that's why Shakespear also wrote: "Love
looks not with the eyes, but with the mind; And therefore is winged Cupid
painted blind."
(Editor's Note: Sometimes, while reporting the news of the jizz bizz, the
comings and goings of the industry seems bereft of anything interesting
and we're forced to run articles like this simply to fill space and post
something new on the site. Simplyjimmyd.com apologizes to its readership
for the publication of this stupid article.)

The late shift.

2003-02-20 Thread professor rat
The East Coast is finally getting back to normal after that big snowstorm.
That was unbelievable wasn't it? Did you see New York City? It was whiter
than an episode of "Friends".

The European Union today told Saddam Hussein today that he has "one last
chance". You know, until his next last chance.

Scientists at the University of Illinois have developed a plastic that
repairs itself. If it cracks or breaks it automatically repairs itself. You
know what that means? Women in L.A. will one day become indestructible.

You got to feel bad for President Bush. He's getting upset with the U.N
dragging their feet over attack on Iraq. He wants to be able to wipe them
out before his one-term presidency is up.

Atheists are upset with President Bush because more and more of his
speeches have references to Christianity. And I think you can tell, this
morning when President Bush got a look at a speech he was giving today he
said, "Jesus! Look at all those big words!"
Earlier today Dick Gephardt announced his candidacy for president. His next
step is to find a running mate or as he put it, "The alcohol to his
sleeping pills."

Two feet of snow in Washington, which is unheard of. The good news is
between the federal holiday yesterday and the Bush economic plan, nobody
missed any work.

In Washington, D.C., Dick Cheney had a heart attack from watching someone
shovel snow. Just from watching!

What a storm! This is supposed to be one of the biggest storms of the
century, of the last century too! In fact they said there hasn't been this
much shoveling in Washington since Bush tried to explain his economic policy.

I guess you know our Homeland Security director, Tom Ridge, is now
downgrading the alert. Remember last week it was duct tape and plastic
sheeting. He's lowered it to scotch tape and two zip lock bags.

There's a rumor in the music world that the Spice Girls are getting back
together. In a related story, the nation's terror alert has just been
raised to red.

You turn on the news: The Rolling Stones are on tour, anti-war protesters
fill the streets. Is this 2003, or is this a bad acid flashback?

Former President Bill Clinton said he regrets not nailing Osama bin Laden.
He also regrets not nailing a flight attendant named Heather and a Vegas
cocktail waitress named Misty.

Today Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock announced that they are getting married
next month. It will be a traditional white trash wedding.

They don't need to build a pipeline though Afganistan any more then? I
know they were pretty annoyed when the taleban refused to let them,
