Re: Fwd: [darktable-dev] Feature freeze for 3.0
Hi folks, I integrated Bruce and Aurélien's comments to the PR, so from my perspective this is ready to go :) (If someone disagrees and has more comments, I'll be happy to modify as well, obviously :) ). Hi folks, the week has been busier than expected, but I'm not working on monday, and I expect to have a better idea by Monday evening. A priori, unless there's a large surprise, I should be able to ask for a PR by the end of next week for filmic RGB, including reorganization to fit with filmic 2.6. Hi Aurélien, Yup, the arrangement is still on - it's a bit of the "silly part of the year", so time may be more tight than I'd like, but it should work out. I'll have a look at what you have already and I'll come back to you and Bruce with what I feel is feasible on my end in the next week or so. For example, don't use Shift+click. Instead, use Select Shift while clicking ….". I tend to disagree, because to me these ARE shortcuts, and I feel that "Shift+click" instead of "Press shift while clicking" is more readable both for people who don't care about the shortcut (can be skipped more easily) and for people who do care about the shortcut (it is presented as a "single unit" instead of something that needs to be explicitly parsed). Admittedly, I do not know how this reads for people who do not have a certain amount of "computer fluency", which would be my concern (and which probably is Microsoft's). I would assume that people without that amount of computer fluency is not necessarily the target of Darktable anyway :) * From a "documentation writing" perspective, it does feel harder to me a priori to go for the sentence without having things getting cumbersome, especially if the sentence is already convoluted (which shouldn't happen, but, well, nobody's perfect :) ). And "rotate the wheel", in particular, feels very unnatural to me. This is however a gut feeling issue, and from a non-native speaker as well, so it may not be shared. (And I'm right now trying to think of the French translation of such a turn of phrase... "appuyer sur shift en faisant tourner la molette"? h. Shift+molette is vastly preferable in my opinion.) * If these mouse shortcuts are ever displayed in the UI, I'd definitely expect "ctrl+click" or the like, and not a full sentence - and it would feel natural to me to have consistency there as well. Re: Fwd: [darktable-dev] Feature freeze for 3.0
Hi all, If there's an easy way to split the work and to share it, I'd be more than happy to help - it's more than time I start contributing to the awesomeness that is Darktable, and I do have a fair amount of experience writing doc (although English is not my native language, so English proofreading would be required). Videos explaining what's new and how it works would be tremendously helpful! (this is mostly how I work when I write our software documentation these days at work...). I'm assuming individual module documentation at least can be delegated individually. @Aurélien - considering your name, I'm assuming you're a native French speaker - if the work is divided beforehand and it's easier for you, you could provide info in French to me as well.
