I also don't like the use of the underscore to create a unique name. I
think that needs to be user defined. I want to use a period.

I think what would be best is to make overwrite a one time occurrence and
to make a setting to allow it to be permanent. every of the time I want to
overwrite I want it to be once.

Well, I thought that importing the jpegs and then re-exporting as xml would do
it.

And, as I could notice, the result was a jpg.xml file per jpg file.

Isn't that meant to be enough ?

On the occasions when I use "overwrite" mode, I try to remember to set it back
to "append" immediately afterwards to avoid this kind of thing, but hearing
about this from other people makes me wonder:

Would it make sense to create stronger separation between these two operations,
given the potentially destructive effects of using the wrong one? Being able
assign different keyboard shortcuts that always did one or the other would
present less "user surprise"... possibly even distinct buttons instead of the
selection drop-down? Just a thought.

Re: [darktable-user] question regarding Canon 5D Mark IV

2016-09-10 Thread Paul Anthony Valenzuela

Thanks Roman.

Looks like you'll need quite a few images. I work on them and see if I
can get them to you this weekend. What is the best way to provide you
with the full resolution RAW images?

Awesome :)
(Not the "currently not supported" part :) )

I'd like to assist with correcting these issues if
possible, although not technical, I'd love to provide you with images that
will help with making the latest and greatest camera out there work with
your awesome software.

Yes, perfect!

I need following samples:
To check white levels (for darktable):
   - take a picture at every single ISO, in the simple raw raw mode
(not dual-pixel).
   - every picture should have some overexposed highlights.
   - every single ISO means including ALL 1/3 and 1/2 stops. (!)

To check crop area (for darktable):
   - a fully clipped sample at ISO 100, 30s, fully open aperture.

(This is the same as

Being very new to this group, I'm not sure where to start. Who can I work
with to assist the Dev team to make this happen?

Thanks,

Paul

That is unfortunate. :-(

While the exported JPEGs contain the XMP data, darktable won't read them like
that. What you should try is using the exiv2 command line tool with the "-pX"
argument to extract the sidecar.

[darktable-user] Library / sidecars trouble

2016-09-10 Thread Jean-Luc CECCOLI
Hello,

I rencently wanted to merge some settings to a binch of photos.

I set everything to the first one, adjusted to fit my taste, then copy the
selected values, and finally pasted those same values to over 1200 photos.

At this time, I realized that I had left the parmeter set to overwrite instead
of merge (or stack, I don't remember the english parameter).

Anyway, I lost all the previous settings, which is terrible since I had spent
over 5 hours (at least) to get the photos match what I wanted.

No worry, I thought : I had exported them to jpeg, so it might be easy to
retrieve the settings.

What I did :

1- erase the entries from the current library

2- close DT and rename the current library

3- import the jpegs, save all as sidecars and close DT

4- rename the sidecars from .jpg.xml to .nef.xml and replace those in the
pictures' directory

5- delete the newly created library and restore the previous one

6- open DT, re-import the folder containing my photos.

At this time, I expected to see the history for each photo, but, despites the
fact all seem to display as before I overwrote instead of merging, the only
entries in the history are Original and Orientation.

So, when I attempt to apply the new settings as I first wanted, they display
over-over-over-exposed.

Any idea what I could have done wrong ?

Regards,

J.-Luc
