Hi,
Security holes are always possible, e.g. the XML parser used by darktable,
just like any other code, could have a bug that caused it to crash or even
execute arbitrary code, given malformed/malicious input - from Acrobat
Reader to Android components, many programs have been hijacked that way
(e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stagefright_(bug) ).
dtstyles.net is, as far as I know, safe. You can also import processing
settings from jpg files exported by darktable, or xmp sidecar files. See
'Load sidecar files' at
http://www.darktable.org/usermanual/ch02s03s07.html.php
