[darktable-user] Newbie
I am a photographer and have been using Lightroom for many years. It works fine for me. But I am really put off by the subscription model and have stuck to Lightroom 6. Recently I bought the Fujifilm X100V. It is like going back to the days when all I had was a beaten up Leica and a 35mm lens. I can concentrate on the photo instead of the equipment. But Lightroom 6 does not support X100V raw files. I have to subscribe to get the update. I am thinking of changing over to Darktable. Does it support X100V raw files? Also, it seems that installing Darktable seems dauntingly complicated. Is there a simple workaround? Thank you for your help. Isn't "apt" a *linux* package manager? and lightroom a *windows/macOS* program? But what seems so "dauntingly complicated"? Basically, it's "run the installer"... Hi Ka Tai, I use a Fuji X100F which generates .RAF raw files what is your file extension? I have no issues with RAF files in Darktable. Hi, it seems the X100V is not currently supported: https://www.darktable.org/resources/camera-support/. In the same page you will find the instructions on how to add support for it. The instructions to install darktable on Windows are here: https://www.darktable.org/install/#windows. Just download the file and install it. I think the development version can process X100V files, at least we played around with one of those in January: https://discuss.pixls.us/t/colour-calibration-green-tinge/22810 > The instructions to install darktable on Windows are here: > https://www.darktable.org/install/#windows. Re: [darktable-user] Newbie
Hi Leong, I can not comment on if your fujifilm works with Darktable, however, unsupported cameras can usually be made to work in Lightroom and Darktable by using Adobe's free DNG converter to turn the RAW file into a DNG. Magically doing this allowed LR6 to recognise my Olympus TG6 raw files when before it could not. So now I don't even need to do DNG conversion. Darktable is a straight install for Windows. Also, I have LR6 and LR subscription but always use Darktable in preference because it gives so much more control and has great masking options to localise adjustments. In my opinion, LR is like the automatic car for mundane commutes to the shops and Darktable is the sports car that really brings out the fun. Re: [darktable-user] Newbie
I totally agree with Bernhard that we should not discard the original RAW files. Sorry I did not make that important point clear. The DNG conversion is just a temporary fix for unsupported cameras and not the best option in my opinion. I am not sure what is lost in the DNG conversion process but will always keep the out of camera RAW file regardless. [darktable-user] Mask export
Is there any way to export the masks generated by darktable modules outside of darktable? I use DT for all of my daytime photo processing, but when doing astro in more specialized astrophoto programs, I really find myself missing the great masks DT can generate. It'd be very useful if I could import a picture in DT, create masks off that and export them (preferably as grayscale images, but anything works) to use in the rest of my toolkit. Thank you for a great program! darktable user mailing list to unsubscribe send a mail to darktable-user+unsubscr...@lists.darktable.org
