This is expected --- PPAs are disabled on upgrade, and not re-enabled
after --- because they can or cannot exists for the new version, you
have to do it by hand. The package installed _from the PPAs_, on the
other hand, are not removed --- they simply linger on.

The correct way of upgrading would be to manually _purge_ (remove and
uninstall all the packages installed from them) all the PPAs and then
reinstall them, so that the upgrade is taking a known "standard" status
as base. In the past, very bad things happened if you didn't do that;
nowadays Ubuntu is more robust and, for example, for me the transition
16.04  -> 18.04 has been the smoothest ever.

Yes ! that is where I read about this... I could have been searching through
the mails for long !
However, since I reinstalled the system from a usb stick (/home on a separate
partition), I can't understand how it can be.
I tried to upgrade 16.04 to 18.04 once and didn't work well for me (when
I put to sleep it would wake but no network) I reverted back to 16.04
(clonezilla). But once I re installed (while on 18.04) the red borders
were gone.

Thank-you.

[darktable-user] Strange GUI display (Ubuntu 18.04 / DT 2.44)

2018-10-15 Thread Jean-Luc CECCOLI
Hello,

I'm quite sure I read something about it formerly, but I couldn't find the
thread among the many I explored until may of this year. Then I gave up, and
because my isp's search engine crashes, here I am.

What date was this discussed at ? Who was the author ?
