Hi,

Besides the shadows and highlights module that has already been suggested,
you could add a second instance of exposure, masked so windows are
excluded. Use the first instance to get the windows properly exposed, the
second one to fix the room's exposure.

Check Rob Hutton's tutorials on YouTube, I'm sure he has something on masks.

The tone mapper modules might also work.

If I need to lighten shadow areas of an image without blowing out
brighter areas, I generally use the "Shadows and Highlights" module --
it is usually just a matter of turning it on and adjusting the "shadows"
slider.

Maybe post one of the RAW files (on Dropbox or similar) as an example to be 
worked on in the video?
