Hello Tobias, I tried around a bit. Thank you very much for your hints. In principle the presets (Voreinstellung in german) do what I want. But are there meant to be used for such a case? What happens if I create 200 presets - one for each album I want to create? Therefore I'm asking: Is is meant to be used for such purposes. I would like to suggest to make the presets or something similar visible in the same combo box where I select filmroll or folder or .. But I do not see a way to store the this virtual filmroll so that it appears somewhere as further filmroll or so. The collect module supports presets. darktable user mailing list to unsubscribe send a mail to darktable-user+unsubscr...@lists.darktable.org

Re: [darktable-user] want to move from iPhoto to darktable Q2 and Q4
Hello Remco, thanks a lot for your answer: I understand that I can select a filmroll and make an AND-search on e.g. pictures with a yellow tag. But I do not see a way to store the this virtual filmroll so that it appears somewhere as further filmroll or so. I agree completely with the exporting, you're so right. I need to export anyhow Let me give you an example: I'm importing a new set of pictures, usually I'm taking three pictures of the same kind with different exposures, so I need to select the best of each kind and somehow cover the others, but I do not want to delete them. And of course I'm covering really bad ones too. So what can I do to hide the unused pics? On the other side I would like to put some pictures in a "virtual" folder (e.g. "best pictures of 2017"), so I can export them to my digital picture frame. I'm just afraid tagging good pictures in one color or so is ok, but I will forget to which virtual album they belong. Do you understand my concern? What I do in a similar case: select the images to display, and "export" them in optimal resolution to a directory outside the Darktable tree (see manual section 2.3.12), dedicated to your shared data. If you are using darktable, I expect you work with raw files, so you will have to export your images anyway after editing to show them. darktable user mailing list to unsubscribe send a mail to darktable-user+unsubscr...@lists.darktable.org

All relevant data concerning each image are normally stored within the XMP files Darktable writes. That means that edits and geotagging will be recovered on the new import (see section 2.2.7 of the manual). ___ WRT one of your other questions about creating virtual albums: that is possible (see "Collect images", section 2.3.2), but those collections are /virtual/, i.e. have no existence outside the Darktable database. As that directory tree and the images in it are outside Darktable's data, you can also reorganise them at a later date with no problems. Re: [darktable-user] want to move from iPhoto to darktable Q2 and Q4
Thank you very much for your answer. I saw that feature to correct one folder in the docs, already. But I'm afraid to do this for 500 folders is a bit annoying :-) The geotag thing with the map is exactly what I was looking for - thanks Georg Am 11.04.2017 um 18:44 schrieb Bernhard: Dr. Georg Troska schrieb am 10.04.2017 um 22:38: 2. I understand that darktable is not meant to be a used for filesystem stuff. Anyhow I'm missing a possibility to rename a filmroll. I tried out, renaming a filmroll in the filesystem is possible but then darktable needs to re-import the folder. Is there an other way? Actually, I really have a lot of problems as I didn't do the naming of my filmrolles accurately, In iphoto I had one indicating photo and this was enough. Is there any plan going on to change darktable for a better usability, here. Maybe I'm just misunderstanding the concept. Currently I have more than 30k pics from the last years imported as roughly 1000 filmrolls. From the docs: updating folder path While it is best to not touch imported files behind darktable's back, this module can help you recover from situations when you move imported folders after import. The collect images module has a feature that allows you to tell darktable about the new location of imported folders which have been moved. You set the combobox to /folders/ to find the original folder name in the tree. The folder name will be displayed striked-out to emphasize that it is no longer there. Then you right-click on the folder name, select “search filmroll...”, and then select the new location of the folder. Dr. Georg Troska schrieb am 10.04.2017 um 22:38: 4.
