[datameet] [Notes] Delhi meetup on Demonetization data

2017-02-08 Thread 'Guneet Narula' via datameet
Hi all,

We are putting together the notes from our recent meetup here:
https://datameet.hackpad.com/datameet-Demonetization-related-data-1zvnAv01ugE

The hackpad was originally started off before the meetup, so adding to it
would be the best way to keep everything in one place.

If you attended the meet, please contribute to the section at the bottom of
the hackpad. You can add notes before the list, increase the list items (I
think I have missed some sources) and expand on each item - its
limitations, possibilities etc.

Thanks and regards,
Guneet

2017-01-28 Thread 'Guneet Narula' via datameet
Thanks for setting this up Thej! And to everyone who has been working on
the maps.

About the download link, I feel it is best to link to the whole repo and
have basic downloading instructions there. I'll try and contribute to the
repo whenever I get time.

Best,
Guneet

[datameet] [Datameet Delhi] Upcoming meetup: Finding Data on Demonetization

2017-01-28 Thread 'Guneet Narula' via datameet
Dear all,

The Delhi chapter would like to invite you to a meetup on demonetization
data. It's been a while since the Delhi members got together for a
conversation on data, and this meet will be exactly that - starting a
conversation on finding data on demonetization. To measure the impact on
people's lives, on corruption and to understand the cashless ecosystem
there is a definite need for data. So where do we begin, what exactly do we
need are just a couple of the many questions we wish touch upon in the
conversation.

Date: Saturday 4th February, 2017
Time: 10am to 1pm
Venue: Akvo Delhi Office, C19/A second floor, Green Park Extension, New
Delhi
Directions: 7-8 minute walk from the green park metro station on ch. hukum
chand marg.
Map Location: http://osm.org/go/zmjpfEqPY?m= |

Please RSVP here: https://www.meetup.com/DataMeet-Delhi/events/237238904/
if you are registered on meetup. Or send a confirmation email to

Looking forward to seeing you there.

[datameet] Call for abstracts: CODATU + UMI Conference on Urban Mobility

2016-07-31 Thread 'Guneet Narula' via datameet
Dear all,

I recently received an invite from a member of the French organization
CODATU to participate in their India focused conference next year November
in Hyderabad. It will be a joint event with Urban Mobility India - the
annual event by Ministry of Urban Development. The event is being
co-organized by the Institute of Urban Transport, which was set up with the
help of CODATU in 1997.

The theme of the conference is: Transport for Inclusive Urban Societies

The call for abstract is live and the deadline is October 15th 2016. I feel
this presents a good opportunity for Datameet and our transport working
group to expand on the role of open data in urban transport and its
sustainability. Here is the link to the web page:
http://www.codatu.org/actualites/codatu2017_en/

Dear all,

The third edition of Hillhacks is coming up and the call for proposals and
participation is live: http://hillhacks.in/cfp

If you are looking to take break this summer, go up to Dharamshala (and
from there, down to the village Rakkar near Sidhbari) for some days of
camping and relaxation with other awesome people :) hillhacks.in/signup

While you relax talk about all things geeky or nerdy under the sun. Two of
these being (open) data and maps! Also if you would like to propose a talk,
workshop, flashtalk or anything in between, follow the first link and then
go to hillhacks.in/2016 to submit.

[datameet] Meeting with GeoSpatial Delhi Limited

2015-05-30 Thread 'Guneet Narula' via datameet
On 28th May 2015, Datameet met with the two members of GeoSpatial Delhi
Limited, a company owned by the Delhi Government, that provides geospatial
services for planning to the various government agencies and departments.
This was made possible by Roshan Shankar, coordinator at Delhi Dialogue
Commision, under the current Delhi Government.

This meeting was part of the larger ongoing conversation we are having with
the DDC about open data policy and the possibilities of more participative
and democratic civic engagement in planning.

The Fallen of World War II is an interactive documentary that examines the
human cost of the second World War and the decline in battle deaths in the
years since the war. The 15-minute data visualization uses cinematic
storytelling techniques to provide viewers with a fresh and dramatic
perspective of a pivotal moment in history.

The film follows a linear narration, but it allows viewers to pause during
key moments to interact with the charts and dig deeper into the numbers.

[datameet] [DataMeet Delhi] Delhi Water Data Meeting, 25th April 2015

2015-04-25 Thread 'Guneet Narula' via datameet

Dear all,

The Delhi Jal Board has released the Summer Action Plan 2015 last month.
The Plan sets the water production targets for all Water Treatment Plants
in Delhi for the summer, and identifies a series of strategies -- such as
making functioning of water tankers more efficient, and locating vulnerable
areas of water contamination and sewer blockage -- to reduce wastage of
water and ensure more effective distribution, especially in the Juggi
Jhopri colonies that do not have access to piped drinking water.

On Thursday, April 30, Sundeep Narwani of Delhi Dialogue Commission, who is
working closely with the Delhi Jal Board, will join us to discuss the data
challenges faced by the Board.

We are specifically inviting organisations and individuals working on
issues of water and sanitation so as to follow up Sundeep’s presentation
with an open discussion towards identifying a set of key data points that
must be collected and opened up for effective decision-making and
monitoring of the implementation of the Summer Action Plan.

The meeting will be held at Akvo office, and we will begin at 5:30 pm.

Address:
C 19/A, Green Park Extension
C/o BARTHAKUR (*as mentioned on the nameplate at the entrance)*

Closest Metro Station: Green Park, take the Gurdwara exit
Landmark: Akvo office is a short walk down the Gurdwara road towards Kamal
Cinema. Its second house from the Hotel South Gate .
Map: http://goo.gl/QVu90t or http://osm.org/go/zmjpfDXUU-?m=

Please read the Summer Action Plan document as preparation for the meeting:
http://bit.ly/djb-summer-action-plan-2015.

See you at the meeting,
