Re: [datameet] Shoreline India coast

2020-12-26 Thread Akshay Aditya
Shapefiles might be hard. I used historical maps and traced them out for the
Visakhapatnam area coast when I faced a similar problem.

[datameet] Discord

2020-11-30 Thread Akshay Aditya
Just a message to everyone.
Instead of the usual format of emailing on the group or commenting on the
groups. Should we consider doing this on discord?, we would be able to share
information more quickly and threads would be easier to follow. Sometimes I’m
looking for something and it’s a little hard to find them because of the email
format.

Let me know what you all think.

Re: [datameet] Data on voting/opinions of the members of State Legislative Assemblies

2020-09-28 Thread Akshay Aditya
Eduardo,
It might be difficult to find this information. However there are a few
possible proxy sources, the parliamentary website of the central government has
a day to day log of proceedings, and many state assembly websites also have a
similar website. While it’s not possible to find individual votes, you can find
two things:
1. Opposition opinion : This will tell you each parties position regarding the
bill.
2. Members present on the day of the vote : The anti- defection bill makes it
impossible for people to vote outside party whip. So if a whip has been issued
(which in most cases will be true), you can be 100% sure that all members
present voted along party lines.

You can cross reference these two things and get the data you need.

Hope this helps,
