Re: [datameet] Need help identifying a recent pollution source

2022-10-11 Thread Samuel Rajkumar
Should be easy to establish since it looks like a flowing river.
Inexpensive, though fairly accurate, TDS and pH meters are available. Use
them to test water from several points upstream and downstream. If you get
a significant variation, then it would call for a more detailed
investigation.

All the best.

Intermittent release of mining slurry is thought to be the cause of river
pollution. Goa's Water Resources Department says they cannot identify the

Will output the JSON to console which you can redirect to a file. Attached
is one of your files converted to JSON file.

This script depends on https://github.com/tilezen/mapbox-vector-tile. MVT
specification is here
https://github.com/mapbox/vector-tile-spec/tree/master/2.1 (once you know
it searching for tools is easy).

This is not the most convenient solution but if you ask for a better tool,
mention this on the gis.stackexchange.com site. It's good to do your own
homework :).

Reference: https://gdal.org/drivers/vector/mvt.html

It doesn't look like GDAL is capable of converting MVT with 3d values to
GeoJSON. Most of your GIS software uses gdal behind the scene for
conversion.

[dilawars@chutki Downloads]$ ogr2ogr -f GeoJSON a.geojson
censuswardboundary_719_456.mvt
ERROR 1: Layer 'censuswardboundary_label' does not already exist in
the output dataset, and cannot be created by the output driver.
ERROR 1: Terminating translation prematurely after failed
translation of layer censuswardboundary_label (use -skipfailures to skip errors)

Try https://gis.stackexchange.com/ for better luck.

Re: [datameet] Need Help : Kerala Rescue, Building a map

2018-08-27 Thread Swati Verma
Dear all,

Greetings, I am a researcher in Open Data based in London. I am trying to
understand its usage within specialist and non-specialist audience in
delivering public service applications - such as the admirable project
you're trying to design here with Kerela rescue. Would you be happy to
allow this project and its development to be observed from the outside and
subsequently feature as a case study in the Open data research?

My objective is to design a user based metric to measure the "openness" and
usage of open government data for both specialist and non-specialist
audience in India. I look forward to hearing from you. You can reach me at

analyzing a chunk of text.

Context:
Government schools have monthly meetings with all stakeholders and we've
collected a whole lot of minutes on what gets discussed in these meetings,
the gut feel being - learning is usually not the focus of the committee.
And if we can visualize the discussions to show at these meetings and
advocate a change in the nature of discussions, this exercise would be a
success

I'm attaching a sample file here (may not be significant in size, but I can
extract a whole lot more from the PDFs the team on the ground has
collected). I thought it'd be good to tap on some collective expertise and
would like some tips on what's the best approach to text analysis.

If anyone is up for volunteering to help us with this, please do write to
me also.

Warm Regards,
Megha

2016-10-19 Thread Devdatta Tengshe
Hi Ravi,

There are always a lot of* schemesters* around. Just because someone claims
something, doesn't mean that it has any validity.

When the post offices themselves don't think of pin codes as mutually
exclusive and completely covering polygons, It is a big mistake to believe
these kind of data vendors who are just trying to sell snake oil to
unsuspecting organizations.

I'll request you to go through the hack pad as well as all the treads on
this topic, where we have discussed these issues ad nauseam

Thanks Srinivas for the quick response.

I was actually shocked when i came to know that few companies has such
spatial data - pin code boundary (in polygon) for whole of India. And they
are selling this. I couldnt understand the logic of how they have created
this dataset!! what could be the source? Even if they have considered
village boundaries for villages but what could be the logic for a city -
ward boundaries? not sure !! These companies dont reveal the details.

[datameet] Need help regarding Data visualisation project on Indian Railways

2016-10-17 Thread Udayan Vidyanta
Hi,

My name is Udayan and I am an Interaction Design (M.Des.) student at IDC,
School of Design, IIT Bombay.

I am currently working on an academic project to visualize real time indian
railway information for the benefit of Indian citizens.

I would like my visualization to show each train (as and when queried upon) as
an interactive trail between stations (on its route). I would like my
visualization to show train timetable, compare trains and most importantly to
show the real time train running information interactively. I would like my
visualization to aid the users know that what is the punctuality or lateness
trend of a train, where a train is currently, what is the estimated time that
it will reach the next (or 'X') station on its route, etc.

Visualization is the next step, but currently I am a bit stuck on how to get
the data. I understand that scraping the railway website should be the last
resort and hence was trying to find APIs that could help get the data for me. I
found two APIs:
1. http://railwayapi.com/
2. http://api.erail.in/

I tried to get the key for the API from the above two websites. I received a
free key from http://railwayapi.com/ but it has a 3 month validity and a
limitation of 100 hits a day. That is too less for a public project.

My request to the website http://api.erail.in/ has not returned a reply.

I also found a CSV file containing train timetable for the year 2015 from
data.gov.in/ but that does not help my cause that much.

I would really appreciate it if you all can help me get the data for my
project, suggest API or anything else.

Thanks,
Udayan Vidyanta

Hi,

Great work with your TN Election data vizualization. If you are looking for
map visualizations for the same, you can use cartodb. I tried some viz few
weeks back[1], you can fork the datasets / maps from cartodb. But I felt
getting highly interactive viz from cartodb is a tall task. Its very good
for basic map viz / mild interactions.

Hi Kuhu?

What exactly do you wish to achieve? Maybe I could help you.

In most cases, you need to have the data in a vector format (like geojson
or topojson) and display that in a web map using a Js library like Leaflet
or similar.

Re: [datameet] Need Help! How to make an Excel sheet searchable on my website?

2014-05-12 Thread Thejesh GN
You could use
1. SheetJS https://jlord.github.io/sheetsee.js/ - Creates map links and
also makes the columns seachable (or filter)
2. Freedive is actually very cool. What issues are you facing with it?

 Hey all!

Does anyone know how to make an Excel sheet searchable online? I have a

 Freedivehttp://multimedia.journalism.berkeley.edu/tools/freedive/,
but it doesn't seem to work.

Could someone advise on other options?

 Thanks.

2014-05-12 Thread Ravi Bajpai
Amrit, thanks for the tip! Let me try and catch hold of someone good with
JSON or XML.

Thajesh, Freedive is quite great, but it does not render search results. I
am not sure what the problem is. Let me try this other option you have
mentioned here.

Thanks a ton!

Best,

Ravi

[datameet] Need help: Spreading information OpenDataCamp to the following institutions

2013-02-21 Thread Thejesh GN
Hi All,
We need group's help to spread information about ODC to the following
institutions (of course not limited). I think there will be a group of
people interested but wouldn't know about it

-- ISI - indian statistical institute, Bangalore
-- IISc
-- IITB
-- NID
-- Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology
-- Any other institute that you think of
-- Any other NGOs

Please spread a word. You can probably use the note below by Nisha.

Let me know if you need any help regarding this.

Thanks,
Thej

I would like to invite you all to the 2013 Bangalore Open DataCamp that
will be held on March 2nd and 3rd. This event is dedicated to discussing
and exploring Open Data in India and the many people and projects that use
data.

I will also like to ask for your formal participation for the Hackathon on
the 3rd. We will like to say this hackathon will be using data available on
data.gov.in and start stalking about what those outputs might be.

http://odc.datameet.org/odcblr2013/

Last year we had 150 people come and participate and had presentations from
various places from UID to governance to education, all using data to
attack a particular problem.

I would like to ask you or your team to come and participate if possible it
will be a great event.
