Good to hear that.
So, now that everybody's happy I think we can close the issue.
Thanks for your help.

Hello everyone,

I can also confirm that the bug that causes the lockup appears to be fixed in
m84. When I installed the build, I hadn't cleaned out my registry or removed
the folder from the application data section of my user profile, so I was
getting left over errors from earlier builds.

After removing these items and reinstalling, I was able to create a form
without the application locking up.

Kee up the good work.

OOo always trying to recover DB documents should be fixed in m86

As an addition:
Under SuSE Linux 9.2:
- I cannot reproduce the original issue (e.g. OOo does not freeze with sample
DB)
- Recovery dialog comes up as usual and reporting to Sun works under
Linux+1.9.m84.

Hi vreid

No, I cannot send an error report to Sun either.
But this is another issue, issue 39622 to be specific. Someone lately reported
exactly your/our problem.

To the question of Java/OS: I have WinXP SP2 + Java 1.5.0-01, so exactly the
same configuration as you. Maybe I'm going to test this under SuSE Linux.
And yes, maybe deleting all traces of older OOo version in registry (and
"documents and settings" ?) solves the problem. I dunno.

Matthias

Justin,

If you follow the recovery engine to its conclusion, does it allow you to
actually send the issue to Sun? On both my computers at home, I get a bad
memory reference error. Is this something that I should file as a different
issue or is it already being looked at? I was just wondering.

I have m84 installed on my Windows XP Service Pack 2 box at home, and I am still
getting the error.

I wonder if it is because I first uninstalled m79 and then installed m84? When
I get home this evening from work, I'll try removing m84 clearing any registry
values and then reinstalling. I'll then file another comment to let you all
know whether or not I'm still getting the issue.

By the way, is this issue java version dependent? I've got java runtime build
1.5.0_01-b08 installed on my XP Pro machine. Is it OS dependent? I haven't had
the time yet to see if I can reproduce this behavior on my linux machine.

Thanks,

Vaughn

Hi guys,

Yep, I can confirm this appears to be fixed in m84.

Following the exact steps given by vreid, and using the database attached to
this issue... it works fine.

The database recovery being always kicked off is probably a different issue
(42460) and that should be fixed for m86. :)

Regards and best wishes,

Justin Clift

Hi vreid

I checked you sample database with OOo1.9.84+WinXP. It doesn't crash OOo, at
least not in the way you described in this issue. Building a from works for me.

Strange is, that ALWAYS if I load your database and close OOoBase, at next
startup it will show the recovery dialog, although it didn't seem to crash.
So from what does it try to recover from ???

I'm enclosing a sample database that caused a lockup of OpenOffice when I tried
to use the wizard to create a form.

Here's some additional information that may be related:
1. The crash recovery tool will not send an error report after it attempts to
recover the documents from the lockup. Instead, I get an invalid hexadecimal
memory reference error. In addition, even though the document recovery tools
says that it has recovered the database and its form, the documents never
reappear in the database.

2. I am also unable to get a table to bind to a form when I try to manually
create a form.

3. I am able to recreate 1 and 2 above on both Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2
and Windows 2000 Professional Service Pack 4.

Descpription of attached files
New Database is a test database that crashed when I used the form wizard to
create a form.

Thanks for pointing me to the different details, which I overlooked.

Trying to reproduce this error (with OOo1.9.79 on WinXP) with the steps above I
only manage to crash OOo by pressing "Finish". (OOo vanishes completely.) I do
NOT get OOo to "freeze". So I might not have reproduced exactly THIS error.

As a consequence I will reopen this issue.

Hi Matthias,

There are several ways to lock up OOo2 and cause it to crash, however we don't
lump all of them into one issues called "OOo2 can be made to crash", so why are
we lumping all of the (most likely) seperate bugs with Report Wizard into one?

The bug here that you've marked as a duplicate of 42972, although also in the
Report Wizard, is caused by a completely different set of actions, and has not
been shown to be reproducible. In fact, I *can* confirm the other bug, but not
this one (though I don't doubt it happened at least once for this guy).

Regards and best wishes,

Justin Clift

Duplicate. Thereare obviously several ways of making the report wizard crash
OOo.
If it should turn out they have different reasons, the issue can be reopened.
