Re: [Debconf-discuss] Misplaced tote bag
Hi! I found a bag, yesterday, at Rex room but late day, maybe 18hs or so. I left it by Frontdesk at that moment with Nattie. I'm almost sure I saw a laptop charger, but I didn't dig into the bag so may not be. Couldnt you eat it instead of being thrown away? Funny _not that funny_ story: Using the ultimate most immutable poker face, the custom agent asks us (tin@, really) to show him the stuff, but like he was curious about it (which I also forgot to mention here that the package is vacuum sealed), since we were the last on the queue, I thought, naively, "Ok, he's going to inspect it to see if we have a chance". Instantaneously, he dropped the package into a bin, without letting us even react. He didn't offer any choice because it took him a nanosecond since we handed over the package to get it dropped. It was clear to us that this was a typical behavior to avoid people attempting or, at least to be tempted to eat them, etc. But boy you should have since how fast he was, if customs were to behave that fast all the way -- No sooner had Edger Allen Poe Finished his old Raven, then he started his Old Crow. ___ Debconf-discuss mailing list Debconf-discuss@lists.debconf.org http://lists.debconf.org/mailman/listinfo/debconf-discuss
[Debconf-discuss] Cured (raw) meat for cheese and wine party through Canada customs?
Hiya! We were planning on bring something typical that is, basically, composed of cured raw pork meat that has been air-dry away https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salami The thing is that at DebConf in Portland, customs immediately confiscated them from us accusing about disease control laws and those kind of things, even though It was totally fine to bring smoked salmon and such :-/ Here the question rests: Would you say Canada Immigration/Customs at Toronto is similar or replicates those kind of laws they use at the US? It's really amazing and totally worth trying, but since it costs quite some money (and since I would have to travel ~100KM to get them) I would prefer not to burst into tears seeing, once again, a custom agent force us to drop them into the trash for them to later snaking :P Suggestions? Hi Anibal! It seems to me that I should have sent this into the proper Debian list and not debconf-discuss@, but since you kindly mentioned the subject, I fired it up in here! 8) Is any ECC crypto set allowed by FTP-Master/Debian Keyring Manaintainers by these days? I understand it has not been accepted as part of the gnupg/opengpg standards. A quick dive into the Debian Keyring seems not one key has been uploaded/got accepted one yet: dererk erebus[~]$ gpg --no-default-keyring --keyring /usr/share/keyrings/debian-keyring.gpg --list-sigs | grep ^pub | awk '{print $2}' | sort | uniq -c 1 dsa3072 1 rsa10240 29 rsa2048 4 rsa3072 1 rsa3744 1 rsa3936 808 rsa4096 1 rsa5120 6 rsa8192 I still use my 4Krsa key for lots of stuff, and even though I'm not dpk^W a person that truly understands the underlining math that supports it, I just particularly find ECC to be extremely practical when dealing with smaller cryptographic challenges/computing power required, and also smaller public keys and still get served beef :D Thanks for always push this stuff year after year! [Debconf-discuss] Does US Visa help getting into Canada in any way?
Hi there! I clearly remember someone (unfortunately I cannot remember whom), telling me US Visa (B1/B2) helped that person to get into Canada or helped shortening down the process of getting the Canadian Visa. I spent several hours trying to dive into the Canadian documentation (some of them waiting for the site to be up, since it come and goes all the freaking time) which appears to mention in a parabolic way that It might help, but (quote): It depends on your situation, the document and the method of travel you plan to use. So no much of help there. It appears that there's a company/institution/something like that, that helps easing up the process of getting a Visa for Canada, but it involves getting into a building and paying some fees that, you might not need to do at all if you go through an electronic (as, getting it online) way. Does anyone know something about that? Any advices would be awesome since I usually get very frustrated by paperwork :( Thanks in advance! [Debconf-discuss] [OT] Morning runnings through the forest!
Hey debconfers! TL;DR For those of you that love running at mornings as much as hacking at nights, a couple of us are doing morning workouts leaving from the venue's Stone Age-ish area[1] daily at 7.30 to depart 7.45 sharp, for being back just before breakfast finishes, so you don't miss a thing! Running along the Neckar is awesome, paths are in great shape, away from the noisy city areas, and you can keep running as long as you want, like for ~20KM round trip or so. It's basically impossible to get lost since its a straight away route that takes you from the venue and back to start point. If you are one of those crazy trail running/cross country fans, there is an incredible awesome nice route you must try through the forest. Its located really close to the venue (~2KM from the venue to the bottom of the hill), and although it has a gentle +300m altimetry, no technical gear is required (for sure good grip is always advised, since raining might turn the paths a little bit slippery with leafs). Multiple paths for keep going up or start descending and tree-covered paths, which turned to be just great once the sun starts to strikes in. Beautiful panoramic points facing the Heidelberg Castle and bridges are mandatories stops! Here[2] you can see the route, the altimetry map, etc. Enjoy! Cheers, Dererk ref. 1.
