[Debconf-discuss] laptop to give away

2015-08-19 Thread Thomas Koch
I brought an old laptop that I don't need anymore and would gladly give away
for a good course:

- hp Compaq nw8440
- Intel Core 2 T7600 @ 2.33 GHz
- 2 GB ram
- DVD RW
- sd card reader
- no webcam
- trackpoint
- battery seems to be broken
- Screen size 15.4 inches
- Screen resolution 1920 x 1200, 16:9
- Wifi, bluetooth
- plays youtube videos over wifi without interruption

A good courses is almost anything as long as the laptop will be used and will
operate with a free operating system and will not control drones.

Hi,

only 7 people signed up to hike to the brewery. That's not enough for a guided

If you still want to hike, please be at the lobby (front desk) at 9:00

[Debconf-discuss] West Coast Swing dancing tonight 21:30

2015-08-17 Thread Thomas Koch
We had a nice West Coast Swing dancing session in the Foyer last evening and
I've been asked for another one.

I think nobody was bothered by the music and the reduced light in the Foyer?

So I'll be there again tonight at 21:30 and teach and practice WCS with
whoever is interested.

Is it possible to have this put into the schedule?

You're also welcome to just watch. If you come please wear comfortable shoes
without heels.

[Debconf-discuss] West Coast Swing Workshop this evening?

2015-08-16 Thread Thomas Koch
It kills me to hear the nice music at the reception and not having danced for
more than a week.

Since there is no other program: Is anybody interested in a spontaneous West
Coast Swing workshop this evening?

What would be a good room to use? Heidelberg might be fine if we make a bit
more space in the front. Can we use the sound system?

WCS can look like this after +10 years of practice:

[Debconf-discuss] sbd want to give a gpg skills-exchange session?

Hi,

I've had some chatting yesterday about how it's complicate to grasp the inner

We compared it to Git, where we understood Git perfectly once we understood
the underlying data structure.

Is anybody here who could provide us the same insight into GPG and would like
to do a Skills Exchange Session about it?

[Debconf-discuss] skills exchange offer: emacs org-mode

2013-08-11 Thread Thomas Koch
Hi,

I use org-mode, an extension of emacs to do the following:

- track the time I work on different tasks
- track TODO items
- capture information about projects I work on
- capture tabular informations
- do some small spreedsheets with calculations (like libreoffice calc)

I'm looking forward to use org-mode also to:

- maintain SCRUM backlogs
- maintain my personal calendar
- probably a place for my browser bookmarks

If you'd like me to give a Skills-Exchange Session on org-mode, please reply!
If you think you could contribute (or take over) this session, please reply!

 http://www.youthhostel.ch/en/hostels/st-moritz

Hi Ana,

I also feel a bit worried about the current situation. I'm personally fine
with le camp but I understand that many others have issues.

I was looking for hotel prices in my home region[1] (Ruhr area, Germany) just
for curiosity minutes before your email.

[1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruhr.2010

Just by quickly searching the net I get quotes around 50 Euros/night in a 4-
Star conference Hotel. I'm sure one can get much cheaper prices after a
serious search and some negotiation for 200 people and a full week + 1 week
debcamp and maybe only 3 or 2 stars.

http://www.intergerma.de/tagungshotels/region-ruhrgebiet/

For food prizes Germany beats Switzerland any day.

However I don't know how realistic it would be to switch countries at this
point. Are there country sensitive sponsors by now?

   likely.

The very cheapest special offer singles on the day train Munich-Zagreb
are Eur39, dep Munich 0652 arriving Zagreb 1533.

The sleeper, which I will be taking on the way back, depends on the
quality of accomodation and the number of people. Here is what seat61

  says:
   3. Munich to Zagreb on the Lisinski:
In a seat: In a couchette In the sleeping-car

  6-berth 4-berth 3-berth 2-berth single

One way 29 49 59 69 79 139
Return58 98 118 138 158 278

(All the above are the cheapest available special offer fares.)

I will be travelling back on the sleeper departing on Sunday the 31st
of July in the sleeping car, and would be happy to share with 2 or 3
other Debconf attendees. I will need to know by before the 1st of May
who will be joining me, as that's when bookings open.

 thanks for the info.

When you say Munich → Zagreb, you refer to the same train as Thomas
does, when talking about Munich → Novska, right? According to the data
on http://wiki.earth.li/DebconfTravel2011, there is not a suitable train
connection to Zagreb to Banja Luka (13 minutes is not enough after a
night train). Thomas, do you already try to find out there is a way
(e.g. a bus) to get from Novska to Banja Luka if we do not try to hire a
car for a group of people? http://www.akz.hr/EN/voznired.aspx does not
list any. From Zagreb to Banja Luka there are busses about every two
hours, and they take three hours, according to the same webpage.

On the way back, Ian’s choice of trains suit me perfectly from Banja
Luka until Munich. Ian, will you book for everyone joining, so that we
are sure to share one compartment? This would be doubly convenient for
me as I am traveling in India on May 1st and could not book myself until
 later.

For the way there, I’d be glad if more people would join me from Munich
on. I plan to attend DebCamp, so I would depart on the 17th. Anybody
interested? Or maybe DebConf is enough this year... guess I should make
 up my mind soon :-)
I did not find any suitable train of bus connection from either Zagreb nor
Novska to Banja Luka.
In Romania prices to rent a bus are amazingly cheap so I'd very much prefer to
kindly ask our hosts to arrange this for us.

If I'd end up being the only one coming from Zürich, I could also switch to
take the other train from Munich with you.
