Debian learnings while DebConf23

2023-09-17 Thread Héctor Orón Martínez
Hello,

I think many people learned Debian (packaging, installing, etc.)
while DebConf23, those that are new comers, I would like to get
feedback from you on what worked best and which materials you found
useful for your learnings, also what you enjoyed best about the
conference.

From my side, I really enjoyed meeting some of you, I feel there is
a vibrant community there that can bring lots of good to the Debian
and FOSS ecosystem. Please share your experiences, I would be happy to
hear from you, in particular, for those of you that are new comers.

Regards

Malayalam translations

2023-09-17 Thread Héctor Orón Martínez
Dear Malayalam speakers and writers,

While assisting DebConf23 this year, I noted many of the people tags
had Malayalam written on them. I thought about sharing with you the
opportunity to enable other Malayalam speakers into FOSS by
translating to your language. There is still many software that needs
to be translated, see

  https://hosted.weblate.org/languages/ml/

In particular, debian-installer is missing only 12% of translations
to make it complete:

  https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/debian-installer/-/ml/

Of course you can look at other languages too if you know them and
you are willing to contribute with translations.

Regards

Leaving for Kochi airport in the night/morning 3am

2023-09-17 Thread Evangelos Ribeiro Tzaras
Heya,

I got a small cab picking me up at 3am "tomorrow" .
I'm certainly not going to sleep,
so it's actually "logical today".

I can take a +1, if there's any interest.
The first person who answers get's it.

See you then (it will be some time before I check my mails again).

It's already payed for.

Debconf 23 group photo

2023-09-17 Thread Aigars Mahinovs
Debconf 23 is coming to a close in Kochi, Kerala, India this year.

And it has been my pleasure to again be here and take lots of pictures of
the
event and of the surroundings. In total I took 1852 photos and walked just
over 50 km between the
two venue buildings and all the rooms where action happened.

Today I will share with you the main group photo, you can also see it in:

* on Google Photos - https://photos.app.goo.gl/H3jegjtk7ckRYxvP9
* on git-lfs -
https://salsa.debian.org/debconf-team/public/share/debconf23/-/blob/main/photos/aigarius/group/debconf23_group.jpg

In keeping with the more relaxed nature of Debconf in India, the rest of my
photos from the event will
be published in about two weeks from now. That will give me a bit more time
to process them correctly
and also give all of you a chance to see these pictures with fresh eyes and
stir up new memories from
the event.

Heartfelt Gratitude and Warm Regards from a Kerala Native at DebConf

2023-09-17 Thread Krishnadev P Melevila
Dear DebConf Attendees,

I hope this email finds you in good health and high spirits. I wanted to
take a moment to share my experience at DebConf, even though I could only
attend the first day. It was truly a remarkable and enriching experience,
and I'm filled with pride and joy as an Indian citizen, particularly
hailing from the beautiful state of Kerala.

I was moved by the genuine love and appreciation expressed for India during
the event. As a native of Kerala, I deeply appreciate your kind words and
the fondness you have for our culture, heritage, and warm hospitality.
India, with its diverse traditions, languages, and landscapes, is a place
that holds a special place in the hearts of many. It warms my heart to know
that the sentiment is reciprocated.

I extend my sincere apologies for any unpleasant experiences anyone may
have had during their time in India. Our hope is always to provide a warm
and welcoming environment to all visitors, and it's disheartening to think
anyone left with less than positive memories.

If any of you would like to know more about Kerala, its rich cultural
tapestry, breathtaking scenery, and unique traditions, please feel free to
reach out. I'd be more than happy to share more about my homeland.

I would like to express my gratitude to the organizers, participants, and
everyone involved in making DebConf a truly enriching and inclusive event.
Thank you for creating a platform where we can come together to celebrate
our shared passion for technology and open-source.

Goodbye to all, and may our paths cross again at future DebConf events.

Warm regards,
Krishnadev P Melevila,
