I believe the previous policy referred to a requirement for masks in
internal venues; there's no mention of masks on the page now. Is there
any conference policy on the wearing of masks?

Yeah, we'll recommend it in the email. And hopefully we can all
encourage good on-site practices.

Thanks for the clarification; I hope this can be reflected on the
webpage as well.

I totally agree, and I hope that this recommendations make it to the
welcome mail and to the on-site practice.

As the page says, our intention is to enforce the vaccination & testing
policy described *on that page*. If the government loosens its policy,
that's fine, but our policy still stands.

This is fairly likely, even with a vaccination policy. I've just had a
breakthrough infection, and I'm sure many others have too.

I would suggest that everyone do pre-arrival tests, and self-test
regularly. There will be tests available on-site. We can recommend this
in the arrival email.

Thanks for asking, and good to see that there are others thinking
about this nasty topic :)

Looking at I think
this page needs an update (it also says "as of March 2022" :)):
- AFAIK there are no entry requirements in place any more(?)
- I have no idea about the "General restrictions" quoted on the page,
but I'd be surprised if this was still true in Kosovo (given what
we are seeing in other countries).
- This also means that the "Conference policy" (saying "we will apply
the above rules") probably has a logical problem (as the result
would be "There is no policy in practice." Or maybe the policy
still stands even if the state has abandoned it?)

I guess that means that the DebConf team has to write down their own
COVID-19 policy, which can mean anything from "We follow the rules,
i.e. do nothing, the pandemic is over, la-la-la" (paraphrasing current
nation state policy in most of Europe) to "We require tests in
advance and/or tests on arrival and we'll have food outdoors (thanks
again Holger for asking) and CO₂ sensors and whatever etc."

Given that infection rates in some countries are currently quite high
again, and that we have ~300 participants from N countries [0], the
probablity that someone unknowingly arrives with this unfriendly
virus in their body is not insignificant. And also that they pass it
on, especially if they are asymptomatic and there are no checks.

I won't bore you with any half-baked ideas of a potential COVID-19
policy at DebConf but I hope that the global and local team can spend
some thoughts on it. -- Thanks in advance!

Cheers,
gregor

outdoor hacklab and onsite accomodation room details

2022-06-30 Thread Holger Levsen
hi,

thanks to everyone making DebConf22 happen. I look forward to it a lot!

However given... corona... I'm wondering, how much of debconf22 can
take place outside? ie will there be an outdoor hacklab, with a roof
and electricity (& wireless)? will there be opportunities to take the
food outside to eat there?

Also, for those staying on site: when will we learn about with whom one
will share a bedroom? (again, because... corona.)

Thanks.

EnkelenaH already replied to the first question on irc: "we have an outdoor
hacklab, not too big but enough I think. WiFi and roof, close to the noisy
hacklab building - so beer too :) and from 18th another place with a roof
near the main building".
