Here's a patch for fvwm. I've also filed a bug report, so hopefully
this will be fixed in sarge soon.

Thanks for the patch!

Best wishes,

Ethernet strangeness on kernel 2.4.20... and more

2003-04-10 Thread Wm. Josiah Erikson
Hello all,
Thanks for the suggestion to compile the driver into the kernel -
however this has not seemed to work. I'm currently using a 3c905-TX PCI
card, and I'm having the same problem as before. Should I be using the
onboard ethernet (is it supported? If so, what is it? - Compaq XP1000 is
the machine in question). I also have a couple of other odd things going
on. One is that since I upgraded to kernel 2.4.20 from 2.4.19, I get this
in the dmesg:

Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 9b90fffc0026475a
klogd(177): Oops 0
pc = [fc950800]  ra = [fc8253dc]  ps = Not

I assume this is really bad. Should I use a different kernel? What are
people using?

Another, probably silly question is - how do I make it boot up with aboot
automatically, without having to choose a kernel image? Right now it boots
into interactive mode, and I'd much rather have it just boot kernel image
0 automatically.

Thanks much!
-Josiah

2.4.20 has a bug in the string handling code, which for example breaks

Power Supply Replacement

2003-04-10 Thread CiAsA S'Nuey Boark
Hi guys, quick question,

Recently my PW500a has died and looks like it needs a replacement power
supply. I've tried looking online for information about what type I will
need, but the only information I have been able to find is that I will need a
300w supply. Will any 300w power supply work? Or do I need one specifically
made for alphas? Right now I'm looking at ones like the following:
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?description=17-154-009
that usually say 'made for pentium4' or some such. Any recomendations or
suggestions?

Try HP's phone number: 1-800-282-6672. Ask for the Custom Order
Management Group. It has nothing to do with Alphas that you will
most probably need the exact power supply designed for the PW500a.

I don't know if the PW500a has some non-standard power supply, but the
AlphaStation 200 sure does. At least I found out when my power supply
died. For me, the voltage levels were the same as for a regular ATX, but
the connections were non-standard ones. Quickly, I figured out that buying
a new original spare part from, at that time, Compaq, was more than I was
willing to afford.

I bought an ATX power supply, cut the standard connections and Mac
Guyver:ed on the specific ones for my station. And it's been working ever
since. And it only cost me like $50.

I think the PWS needs a 'special' supply. ATX will not work here
since motherboard power supply connectors are not compatable with
the ATX config. You can get a spare on-line from:

256MB RAM for sale

2003-04-10 Thread Bob McElrath
I have 256MB of RAM (4 sticks of 64MB, ECC, PC100, buffered/registered)
that I just removed from my CS20. Good for alphas. If you have use for
them, make an offer in private mail.

Rather sell to alpha folks. ;)

If no offers I'll put it on ebay in a few days.
