I was just made aware of this problem by wookey. I'm responsible for most patches adding build profile support in this list [1] so if you identify where the problem is, I might be able to come up with a patch that adds support for build profiles. Maybe it is only that some of the involved software on debian-ports has not yet been upgraded to a version with build profile support? You can check the version requirements at [1]. I've pointed Josch at this bug to investigate. dose should be doing those buil-dep calcs and it has understood this for ages.
