A couple of years back I had similar problems with the on board
isp1020 on an Alpha XP1000 workstation when using the 2.6 kernel
qla1240 driver, and had to install another scsi card requiring a
different driver to solve the problem.

Four or so months ago I thought I would try the qla1240 driver again.
It worked fine and I have now removed the extra scsi card I had
previously installed and have had no problems running with the qla1240
driver for the onboard qlogic isp1020. I do run a self-compiled
verbatim kernel that is usually kept pretty much up to date.

I've taken the generic kernel and compiled it with the SMP and rawhide

I have the .deb files for the kernel as well as the headers.

Is the any interest for the users in these packages?
If so, let me know where to put them to make them available for the users.

That's correct, the netinstall CD includes only a single kernel for the
common case. The normal usage is to install using the UP kernel and install
the SMP kernel package afterwards, or else to install from a full-CD image
that includes the SMP kernel. On alpha this is problematic because the
official SMP kernel packages on alpha have trouble with some modules, but
maybe this wouldn't be a problem in your case?

Welcome. It is always a nice thing to hear about another Alpha user.
Debian had far and away the best supported Linux distribution on the
Alpha platform at the time I installed it on my PWS 433au, and I do not
think that situation has changed.

Please sign up for *all* the Alpha-related mailing lists you can find
(debian-alpha@lists.debian.org and [EMAIL PROTECTED] at a
minimum) to ensure someone in the community will see a call for help.

If you don't mind all the traffic, [EMAIL PROTECTED] is a
must if you are planning to experiment with the latest kernels.
