I had a similar issue with my 5 year old logitech mouseman wheel, I filed #287934[1] for this. This behaviour was not present in 2.6.8 but in 2.6.9 and 2.6.10. I now have a mx510 and everything is fine (wanted to replace the mouse nonetheless). > I would bugreport this to kernel, but I am not sure if they will accept > amd64 bugs. Where should I report this bug? Of course, amd64 kernels are officially supported by the Debian Kernel Team. Since the bug is already known, you could send in more informations. Usually you have to open the bug against the kernel image you are experiencing trouble with. USB mouse stops working intermittently with dmesg errors: drivers/usb/input/hid-core.c: input irq status -84 received
When I am using a microsoft usb wheel mouse optical, the mouse freezes randomly. The mouse will stay frozen until I unplug/replug it. dmesg reports a truckload of this message: drivers/usb/input/hid-core.c: input irq status -84 received until I replug it. no more messages appear until the mouse freezes (I think & assume). Does anyone have any idea what -84 means. I would bugreport this to kernel, but I am not sure if they will accept amd64 bugs. Where should I report this bug? Re: New ATI fglrx drivers work with AMD64
Thanks for the heads up, I loooked about 3 days ago I first tried via flavios site (wierd probs with debhelper) and with the alien+ati way. I also tried the patch here: (as per flavio's page) http://www.rage3d.org/board/showthread.php?t=33798874. This is with the ATI+alien method: After building I try and install and get the following error: FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/2.6.10-9-amd64-k8/kernel/drivers/char/drm/fglrx.ko): Invalid module format failed. This is the build process, the warnings at the bottom (about init_module...) seem pertinent. any ideas? I had similar issues on i386 when using both the fglrx drivers and the radeonfb console frame buffer. Try disabling your console frame buffer (or maybe loading vesafb instead of radeonfb?) and it should be fine. "Couldn't download apt" when debootstrapping sid-ia32 into chroot
Hi I just took delivery of a Acer 1524WLMi (AMD64) and after shrinking the XP partition using qtparted (from OSSwatchKnoppix), installed a sarge i386 system and a sid-amd64 system using the sarge-amd64-netinst.iso from 9 Jan 2005. Everything installed fine pretty much out of the box and this thing really flies using the 64bit kernel - great work guys ;) However, I can't play and be impressed forever - I need to do dome work ;) which requires Open Office. So following the excellent Debian GNU/Linux AMD64 HOW-TO I did: debootstrap --arch i386 sid /var/chroot/sid-ia32 \ ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian I got: "W: ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/sid/main/binary-i386/Packages.bz2 was corrupt" and after "Checking ... " a whole list of packages it baulked on apt with the message in the subject above. Is this a temporary mirror problem or something more serious? Re: Marvel Yukon gigabit LAN on Gigabyte K8NS Pro
It worked!...the installer won't modprobe it correctly (or the other card I tried), but after the system reboots I was able to add it manually as you said & configure networking so that installation can go on. Again, for newbies (like myself) or the clueless...all you have to do is: - Let the first stage of installation proceed normally. Don't worry about it not being able to detect the networking hardware - When the system reboots and base-config starts, ALT+F2 to the second terminal & do "modprobe -v sk98lin". If that succeeds, assign the IP, gateway, etc...and you're all set. - ALT+F1 to the first console & everything should be fine from now on (of course you'll need to edit the network configuration files for the settings to be applied each boot) Thanks, Mahmoud Mahmoud Al Gammal writes: > > The kernel is 2.6.8-9 and the module is there...actually, the > error messages that appears is: "modprobe -v sk98lin failed" or > something like that. dmesg says: > > sk98lin: unknown symbol pci_alloc_consistenet > sk98lin: unknown symbol pci_free_consistenet > sk98lin: disagrees about version of symbol pci_alloc_consistenet > sk98lin: disagrees about version of symbol pci_free_consistenet > > Filippo Carone writes: > >> * Mahmoud Al Gammal ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) ha scritto: >>> >>> I'm using sarge-netinst, and the installer fails while >>> modprob'ing my network chip, a built-in Marvel Yukon. yes it does, although after my last update I had to link the libs into /usr/X11R6/lib for X to find them. possible (read most likely) an X config error on my part. Re: apt wants to remove 526 packages!!?
I've seen this before when apt hits a broken package or a package that depends something that is not in the "lists" yet. cups or one of it's libs did it last time to me, tried to make me remove kde and all it's packages. Easiest solution is to only update the specific packages that need to be updated and hold off on the dist-upgrade until the package maintainer gets time to update the broken/missing package. Any warnings about missing/broken packages? Did you change your sources.list at all since the last update or install any experimental packages? Are you runnnig sid or sarge? nvidia driver + agpgart a8v
Hi, I am having some trouble enabling agpgart in debian unstable. I am running the x86 version of debian, though I am posting to this group because I am running an Asus AV8 Deluxe (chipset K8T800Pro) running linux 2.6.10 (I compiled with Atholon64 on-CPU Gart as modules, /dev/agpgart as module), on boot the modules seem to be loaded "agpgart: Detected AGP bridge 0 agpgart: Maximum main memory to use for agp memory: 816M agpgart: AGP aperture is 64M @ 0xdc00" "nvidia: module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel. ACPI: PCI interrupt :01:00.0[A] -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16 NVRM: loading NVIDIA Linux x86 NVIDIA Kernel Module 1.0-6629 Wed Nov 3 13:12:51 PST 2004 NVRM: not using NVAGP, AGPGART is loaded!! NVRM: not using NVAGP, AGPGART is loaded!!" Yet the status of my nvidia (using the latest driver version) module in /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status is "Status: Disabled AGP initialization failed, please check the ouput of the 'dmesg' command and/or your system log file for additional information on this problem.", X (XFree86 4.3 as provided in sid) runs noticably slow especially in gnome (2.8). I am currently running with NvAGP mode 1 the X configuration (XF86Config-4), though I have tried 1-3 and none seem to work. Any ideas? I've been using pure64 (never tried gcc-3.4) and today i had to create that symlink by hand in order to make the latest synaptics compile... :\ Regards, Rafael Rodríguez El Martes, 18 de Enero de 2005 23:13, Theodore Kisner escribió: > I just switched my laptop from the gcc-3.4/4.0 branch back to pure64. apt wants to remove 526 packages!!?
Hello, I usually do a apt-get update apt-get upgrade every couple of days. When there are bugs I just put packages on hold and wait it out, and after a month I try them individually, and if they are still buggy, then I leave them on hold. I decided tonight I was sick of this, so I would do apt-get dist-upgrade. It says it needs to update 6, install 12 new ones, remove 526, and hold 20. Now I am afraid to do this. Remove 526 packages!!? What's going on? Will my system still work? It took me a long time to get it to this point, and I would __hate__ to have to start all over if things get messed up. NVidia Programs
I have just set up a new AMD64 System. I am new to the Debian-AMD64 build though the system is running extremely well. It installed quickly and so far I am having very little trouble with it. I have (I think) properly installed the NVidia drivers. All OpenGL programs are so far running correctly. In addition nvidia-settings is also running correctly. I am using a Geforce FX 5700LE on a ABIT AV8 motherboard. The system is otherwise rock solid. X server can't display 1280x1024 with mga (G550) and LCD Samsung 193P
Hi, I already post this in debian-user (2 days ago, no answer for the moment), but the issue is not clear for me and may be related to amd64 arch. I used to work with a CRT IIYAMA monitor at 1280x1024. Recently, i switched to a Samsung 193P LCD monitor, and couldn't get 1280x1024 anymore : X starts normally, but the screen remains black and displays a message indicating it looks for an analog or digital signal. I only managed to get 1024x768, 800x600 and 640x480. The monitor/video card seem to work well, as win98 works correctly at 1280x1024 with the 193P. (see below for more details on my configuration/log) I suspect a misconfiguration or an issue with the mga driver... Any ideas? Hi! use the --force-overwrite switch of dpkg. OK it worked. Now I tried building kernel module. All fine. Hi, I'm using debian64 unstable (alioth) on my Athlon64 2800+ for 2 monthes. All works well. MB report: Tyan Thunder K8W S2885 (sound and sata problems)
Hi all, as mentioned on [1] Tyan Thunder K8W S2885 is working. For me this is mostly. SATA is only working for the first device, second and third are not working. With the 2.6.10 kernel (-9-amd64-k8-smp deb) it now correctly recognizes the 02 revision: > lspci | grep SATA :03:0b.0 RAID bus controller: Silicon Image, Inc. (formerly CMD Technology Inc) SiI 3114 [SATALink/SATARaid] Serial ATA Controller (rev 02) But it does not find the second HD, nor the SATA DVD rewriter: > cat /proc/scsi/scsi Attached devices: Host: scsi1 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00 Vendor: ATA Model: Maxtor 6B200M0 Rev: BANC Type: Direct-AccessANSI SCSI revision: 05 Sound used to work, until last week, with an apt-get upgrade this functionality got lost. The driver mentioned on [1] is loaded: > lsmod | grep snd snd_seq_midi9984 0 snd_rawmidi28128 1 snd_seq_midi snd_seq_oss36480 0 snd_seq_midi_event 9792 2 snd_seq_midi,snd_seq_oss snd_seq59904 5 snd_seq_midi,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi_event snd_seq_device 10320 4 snd_seq_midi,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq snd_pcm_oss57892 0 snd_mixer_oss 20288 1 snd_pcm_oss snd_intel8x0 36032 1 snd_ac97_codec 81632 1 snd_intel8x0 snd_pcm 105352 4 snd_pcm_oss,snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec snd_timer 27272 2 snd_seq,snd_pcm snd60232 11 snd_rawmidi,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm,snd_timer soundcore 12000 2 i810_audio,snd snd_page_alloc 12168 2 snd_intel8x0,snd_pcm I've tried unloading the OSS modules as that was mentioned somewhere, but choosing auto/oss/also in KDE control center all crashes... Man page problem in the pvm_dev package
The pvm_dev package has some problems with man pages. I am getting numerous errors such as the following from the mandb cron job: mandb: can't open /usr/share/man/man3/pvm_kill.3: No such file or directory mandb: warning: /usr/share/man/man3/pvmfkill.3.gz: bad symlink or ROFF `.so' request pvmfkill.3.gz does indeed reference pvm_kill.3. However, the package chose to name the latter pvm_kill.3PVM and hence mandb cannot find the reference to pvm_kill.3. A bunch of the pvm_* pages have the .3 extension while another group has .3PVM. I have the very same motherboard, but I didn't use the built in marvel LAN adapter during installation. I can tell it works, and its module is sk98lin (under kernel version 2.6.10, and very likely with older versions). Try to disable the firewire port from the bios (which may cause other lan devices to "appear") and modprobe it by hand. cheers, fc -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Marvel Yukon gigabit LAN on Gigabyte K8NS Pro
I'm using sarge-netinst, and the installer fails while modprob'ing my network chip, a built-in Marvel Yukon. I've disabled it inBIOS and added a Realtek 8139 that worked for me before with debian on ARM. Any idea? But the debian amd64 port is far more than the sarge port and both pure64 sid and the gcc-3.4/4.0 build repository are fully staffed and working. If you are specifically interested in getting sarge more in sync with the official sarge you can join the team and familarize yourself with the existing software and help script the missing bits and pieces. What I'm currently stuck on is getting packages build for sid to progress into sarge when they do in the official sarge but only if that doesn't break our sarge. If you want to help out there you should be familiar with Packages/Sources file syntax and graph theory. MfG Goswin -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Re: Motherboard Report: Asus AV8-Deluxe (K8T800Pro)
I've also got an AV8-DX with Athlon 64 3500+, and have no problem with it. It's very stable. Your multitasking problem might be related to the way the new scheduler in 2.6 works. I've got the same problem when running applications that starts two or more communicating processes and when the total application is running 100%. The worst such application I know is modelsim. It starts one process for the HDL-simulator and one for the TCL-interpreter. In many cases are the HDL-simulator driven by TCL-scripts. In such cases can you end up with both processes running 100% and communicating all the time. The default 2.6 scheduler boost the priority for a process waking up another process, and also boost the newly woken up process. In the modelsim case is both processes boosted by the scheduler, and other processes suffer soo much that the computer isn't usable for other tasks at the same time as modelsim is running. The simple solution for this problem is to run modelsim under nice higher than 0. The 2.6 scheduler don't seem to boost applications with nice>0. 2.4 don't suffer from this problem at all, I've tested on the same hardware with the same applications. / Anders -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Fwd: [Ndiswrapper-general] 1.0rc3 availabel (with AMD64 support)
-- Forwarded message -- From: Giridhar Pemmasani <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Mon, 17 Jan 2005 19:37:54 -0500 Subject: [Ndiswrapper-general] 1.0rc3 availabel (with AMD64 support) To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] 1.0rc3 is now available. It now supports AMD64 (in 64-bit). Only Broadcom has been tested with this. WEP works fine. However, wpa_supplicant seems to crash, so WPA doesn't work (yet). Another useful feature is that ndiswrapper now loads a driver/device only when necessary. So you can install as many drivers as you may ever use and ndiswrapper will load a driver only when you insert a card. This is also useful for some drivers that install many devices (e.g., Centrino). NOTE: This version changes .conf files installed by Windows drivers. So you must reinstall Windows drivers; otherwise ndiswrapper won't work. You can do this by "ndiswrapper -e " and install the driver again. -- Giri -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
