recently, i found the gcc-3.4 branch a little more unstable than usual. I agree. First i've install libc6 pure64. if you plan do switch back, too, make /etc/apt/sources.list point to the any of the pure64 branch mirrors, do 'apt-get update' and run 'dpkg --get-selections | grep -w install | \ xargs - -n 20 apt-get install --reinstall -y' but if i run this : 'dpkg --get-selections | grep -w install | \ xargs -n 20 apt-get install --reinstall -y' Don't work for me because the system can't reinstall the the same version and the revision number is higher for some packages in gcc-3.4 archives. For exemple. sh-3.00$ apt-cache policy gcc-3.4 gcc-3.4: Installed: 3.4.3-7.0.0.1.gcc4 Candidate: 3.4.3-7.0.0.1.gcc4 Version Table: *** 3.4.3-7.0.0.1.gcc4 0 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3.4.3-7 0 500 http://debian-amd64.alioth.debian.org sid/main Packages What can i do for this ? This port of debian is raw, upstream support for the hardware is often raw, and I take it no one else here has had similar issues... in other words, you are probably on your own. You will have to learn more about the kernel and the parts of it that are failing, check for possible hardware problems (!)... Take that with a grain of salt too. gcc-3.4: cvs sigsegv's
Hi, I trashed my root partition and finally decided to install the AMD64 port (namely the gcc-3.4 one). I had a backup of my CVS repository, but unfortunately it's a couple weeks old. I didn't lose (most of) my working copy, so I'm trying to commit to the old repository. I sorted out some problems manually, but now the daemon is doing a segmentation fault when I try to access certain files. The repository files are valid RCS files, so the problem doesn't seem to fit in the bad input fed to program category. Now, I'm not sure this is an AMD64-specific problem, but I have no way to go back to a pure 32-bit userlsand from here. I noticed this CVS version seems to have come from pure64 (instead of gcc-3.4), as the package name is cvs_1.12.9-10_amd64.deb, so I was trying to recompile it locally, but I couldn't get apt-src to work. Any suggestions on how to proceed or what to do to try to pin point the problem? A few remarks: 1) I added a deb-src for pure64 and now apt-src install cvs gives a segmentation fault instead of saying it can't find the source. 2) I compiled CVS with -ggdb -Wall instead of the default of -O2 -Wall. 3) I just compiled agin with -ggdb -O2 -Wall and it also works. 4) I'm compiling with gcc (GCC) 3.4.4 20041218 (prerelease) (Debian 3.4.3-7.0.0.1.gcc4).
