No, the -0pre1 is the Debian part, indicating this:
- the 0 means unofficial packages, as KDE 3.4 will not go into sarge/sid
- the package that will go into sid after the sarge release will start with -1
  so upgrades will go fine
- I'm not sure about the pre1/pre2. It probably means that these are packages
in progress or that the just allow increasing the deb version while keeping
  it start with -0

Does the -0pre1 in the name of many packages there, indicate the kde version

On a Gigabyte K8NS mobo, I have three Seagate 200GB SATA

works great. From dmesg it looks like the other two don't get

There's a patch from Aron Rubin at
http://www.ussg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0401.1/1175.html for the
3512 SATA
Controller -- is this still needed? Does sata_sil also need patching?

Jeff posted a
patch http://kerneltrap.org/mailarchive/1/message/42211/flat a week ago,
but it concerns data-corruption,
not detection.

Am I missing something simple like a boot option? I can't see if all
three drives are ST3200822AS, but it's likely.

After the update I did an upgrade, but that wasn't enough, I had to do a

Transparent proxies that don't do a good job rechecking documents are
broken. If apt knows it is using a proxy it can request a check for
updates on importante files (and does so). It works great. Nothing
wrong with apt or proxies, only with transparent proxies that aren't
that transparent.

I had the exact same problem some time ago. It was a bug in kernel 2.6.8
and 2.6.9. As I see it, there are 2 solutions. Either use a custom
kernel with the libata SATA drivers disabled and use the old depreciated
ide-sata driver. Or you can use kernel 2.6.10 or above.

You can download the public key ring and extract the key or go back 2

As for the two files those are reuploads and I guess I still haven't
found out how to do them in such a way that this doesn't happen. I

The ISps with caching proxies are usualy the ones that always have
problems with apt-get and basicaly any other http/ftp app, esspecialy
ftp. They start to cache stuff they aren't supposed to cache or don't

I don't know what the problem could be (maybe you can't mount twice the
same share?), but you could have a bind or rbind mount to export
the /smb tree to the chroot.

Problem with chroot paths

2005-04-01 Thread Clive Menzies

OK I give in. I've been going round in circles with this one and
I'm sure the answer is simple, so perhaps someone can put me out of my
misery ;)

I've been using openoffice on a chroot install I did 2 months ago and it
will read/write to smb shares which have been mounted in the fstab:

# smbclient configuration
//server/share /smb/sharecifs
credentials=/home/user/.smb_pass,file_mode=0660,dir_mode=0770  0  0
ditto for other shares.

df -h shows the shares within the chroot environment as well as on /smb

I just created a new install on different partitions to use xfce rather
than kde but have kept the original install just in case, I need it.

I followed everything in the HOWTO and all is working fine except that
in spite of having identical entries in fstab for the smb shares, they
don't mount in the chroot. ie. I can't read/write from OOo and df -h
doesn't show the chroot mounts. In almost every respect the installs are
identical.

In the HOWTO it refers to: "You can also pass filenames on the command
line to openoffice since the paths are the same inside the chroot."

Can someone point me to where this is set?

Many thanks

Clive

For what it's worth, I can't reproduce this with mozilla-thunderbird

If I run

No, I'm using pure64. But I just ran an update and was able to install
enigmail, so I guess the change was made. Everything works fine now. :)

This is not an uncommon occurrence in Debian Sid. In general, if
installation of
one package requires the removal of another, as yesterday's
Mozilla-Thunderbird
required the removal of Enigmail, the most common problem is just that one
package was released a day or two before the other (but it could be weeks).

In most cases, the simplest strategy is to hold the upgrade until all
dependent
packages are ready.

BTW I recommend wajig for managing packages.
 wajig newupgrade
wajig install mozilla-thunderbird -s (simulates to check for
dependencies)
wajig mozilla-thunderbird hold (keep current version -- later unhold)

Lots of good features and very well maintained on Debian by the developer.

Did you manage to have a proper ACPI support? I use the dsdt patch
provided by

my 1511LMi, I guess it should work on your 1513...
The battery status is now correctly reported, and the suspend-to-disk
works with a kernel >2.6.9 (without X) and with the 2.6.11 with X
running (unfortunately, only if I use the free nv driver, not the NVIDIA).
For information, the "5 in 1" card reader works out-oh-the-box.

-v /mirrors/debian-pure64

This gives me the following errors. So far I am ignoring the gpg
signature issue, but it consistently fails to download some files due to
md5sum check errors.

Any comments? Thank you,

add one more ;-) The Debs work wonderfully, with only minor glitches which are
also present in the KDE packages for i386 which I use on my laptop. That's
the price to pay for running the very latest stuff, I guess ;-)

Booting on nforce3 with SATA

Hi all,
I'm trying to do a net boot on a nforce3 chipset (uses sata_nv module) with

I have googled for help and have found out, that the same problem has been
noticed with FC3. They seem to have found a fix in the bug
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=140367, but the
proposed fixes are probably not applied to the install kernel.
Do you have any suggestions how to overcome this problem?

ummm never mind, I finally managed to sort out the situation and it
wasn't a NIC driver issue at all, in spite of appearances -- my guess
is some rather subtle failure in link negotiation between the NIC and
the switch it's hooked to. Not something I can hope to understand
easily I'm afraid. Anyway, the problem is solved and debian-amd64 is
installed & running just fine on this box.

Any time frame when we can expect install images based on 2.6.11?

I am eagerly anticipating this in the hope that the nvidia sata
issues that have so far prevented me from getting any further
might also be solved with 2.6.11.

It think it would be more reasonable to mail the debian-kde developers, so
they announce the debs in the DebianKDE wiki, and maybe even upload them
to alioth...

Count another one. I've been running KDE 3.4 at home and at another i386
machines for some days now, and earlier today installed it on my dual amd64
system... amarok was running fine, and found no other problems either
sofar... I was pleased to see that these debs also includes the kontact
plugin for akregator :)

Maybe we should setup a DebianAmd64KDE34 page? With the deb urls, and where we
could post problems when we find them?

The only problem I did have was how to install them... after adding the
apt-get source as given earlier in this thread and updating/etc, I was not
able to get things automatically updated... I do have both sarge and sid
lines in the apt-get sources, and had a lot of trouble getting it going on
the two i386 machines too (with other sources, of course...)

I now downloaded all debs with wget on the index HTML page, and then did
'dpkg -i *deb', which mostly worked... applying a 'apt-get -f install' solved
all problems, and then another 'dpkg -i *deb' completed the install...

Anyway, how did others get KDE3.4 installed with apt-get?

Egon

broken libnss-ldap

2005-04-01 Thread Andrei Mikhailovsky
Hello

Yesterday i've upgraded my pure64 box. One of the packages was
libnss-ldap. After the upgrade and restart my login stopped working. The
remote logins are still working fine, but the local logins are not. I am
using centralised authentication with ldap. After removing the ldap
related entries from the nsswitch.conf the local login accounts have
started to work.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues, or is it just me? Shall i
file in a bug report?

Many thanks

I guess so, the compiler which I used is
gcc (GCC) 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-12)

I'm not familiar with the difference of pure64 and gcc 3.4, just
happily use the Debian amd64 port :)

kde 3.4 amd64 debs?

Hi all,

I thought someone posted that he had put amd64 (pure64 or gcc3.4?) debs online
for KDE 3.4, but cannot find it in the archives, only someone mentioning he
was compiling... did I dream this?

Are such debs online yet?
